Rachel McAdams

In the new Sherlock Holmes film, "A Game of Shadows," the world's most famous detective meets up with his arch-nemesis from the original Arthur Conan Doyle stories, Professor Moriarty. But what will become of the only person to have ever out-witted Holmes, the infamous Irene Adler?

Rachel McAdams portrayed the iconic character in the first film, but until recently, a potential appearance in the sequel was still up in the air. Eventually, it was announced that McAdams would reprise her role, but only in a small capacity.

But now a new Korean promotional character poster depicts McAdams by herself as Adler, with no other players to be found. Does this mean we may see a bigger presence from Irene Adler than we had thought?

As much as we want it to be, what you're about to see is not some strange "Armageddon" and "The Notebook" mashup — though that's not a bad idea given recent Hollywood trends!

No, what you're looking at is something much more unexpected and exhilarating: the first official photo from director Terrence Malick's forthcoming untitled love story, starring none other than Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams.

Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are already hard at work reprising their roles as the titular eccentric sleuth and his faithful sidekick Dr. Watson in "Sherlock Holmes 2," the sequel to director Guy Ritchie's 2009 box-office hit. But while the boys are back in town -- or rather the U.K. -- to shoot the movie, Rachel McAdams, who played the original's lone substantial female character, has yet to step foot on the sequel's set. And, as McAdams tells it, she might never.

"It's kind of all still in the process," she told MTV News at the junket for her new comedy "Morning Glory," which opens November 10. "They're still doing script work, and we'll see." Read More...

FROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: Solving head-scratching mysteries is all in a day's work for Jolly Ol' England's most infamous crime-fighting duo. But one quandary that didn't require much sleuthing was the dress code at last evening's "Sherlock Holmes" premiere. Elementary, my dear Crushers, black and white were the order of the night at the film's New York City debut.

Well, not everyone opted for ebony or ivory. Sherlock himself, Robert Downey Jr., channeled a modern-day incarnation of the sleuth in a dapper brown tweed suit and pink tie, while his right-hand man Jude Law opted for an all-black ensemble accented with just a touch of burgundy by his pocket square. Costar Rachel McAdams also rocked the midnight shade in a Jasmini Di Milo bustier top and high-waisted trousers, which seemed a touch casual for the big event. We liked her gray asymmetrical Andrew GN gown from the film's London premiere much better.

Several months ago, a rumor surfaced that international superstar Brad Pitt had flown to London to shoot a few scenes as the villainous Moriarty for director Guy Ritchie's "Sherlock Holmes." The rumor was squashed, only to reignite in the form of the word that Pitt had discussed playing Moriarty in a possible sequel with the film's producers. This too was put to rest but you know how hope is, always springing eternal.

So when MTV's Josh Horowitz sat down with Ritchie to talk "Holmes," the Pitt talk inevitably came up. And here's what the director had to say...

"I'm looking over there," he said, breaking into a wide grin as he glanced nervously at his publicist. Making a wagging finger motion, Ritchie laughed and exclaimed "I'm not allowed to say anything!" Read More...

Rachel McAdamsWhen we recently visited the set of this winter’s eagerly-anticipated “Sherlock Holmes” movie, we found Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, and Rachel McAdams. But naturally, we were also looking for a certain hat and phrase that have long been the hallmarks of the world’s most famous sleuth.

“There’s lots of explosions, [and] people almost die,” McAdams explained to us when we held a magnifying glass up to her recently. But when it came time to talk about Sherlock’s signature stuff, the “Notebook” star insisted that Guy Ritchie’s new vision had omitted a few essentials.

When we asked Rachel if Downey gets the chance to utter the revered Sherlock line “Elementary, my dear Watson” to Jude Law, she didn’t seem to remember it from the script. “I don’t know if he ever worked it in anywhere,” she revealed. Read More...
