MTV Movies editor Josh Horowitz is out of the country right now, gallivanting around the Toronto International Film Festival while the rest of us madly prepare for Sunday's 2009 Video Music Awards here in New York City. Josh got there yesterday, and he hit the ground running. Is there such a thing as a genial black comedy? If so, “The Invention of Lying” might be it. This marks two Toronto fests in a row when a Ricky Gervais-starrer has screened (and junketed). FROM SPLASH PAGE: In last week’s poll, I asked readers to vote on the “Batman 3″ rumors they wished were true. From Cher playing Catwoman and Christopher Nolan exiting the franchise to Philip Seymour Hoffman playing The Penguin and Christian Bale taking his growl elsewhere, there’s been no shortage of rumors surrounding the next installment of the Batman film franchise. And no rumor has been without its share of fans, either.
When all the votes were tallied, however, the margin of votes between the most popular rumor and the next wish-it-was-true option was one of the largest in any of our polls thus far. And while the winner isn’t much of a surprise, the support for some of the other might raise a few eyebrows (and cause some heart palpitations) among the Batman faithful.

With a Best Acting Oscar under his belt, and nominations pouring in for "Doubt," it was only a matter of time before Philip Seymour Hoffman decided to direct.
Variety reports that he's set to make his debut on "Jack Goes Boating" for Overture Films. Surprisingly, it's a romantic comedy -- albeit an unconventional one based on the off-Broadway play by Bob Glaudini.
Hoffman will star as Jack, reprising his role from the original play, will bring along his original costars John Ortiz and Daphne Rubin-Vega. The newcomer of the cast is the leading lady, Amy Ryan ("Gone Baby Gone") who will play Connie, Jack's love interest. Read more...
