You'd think that "The Informant!" star Matt Damon and filmmaker Clint Eastwood would right now be preparing to promote their first collaboration, Oscar-bait "Invictus," which is due for a mid-December release. And they probably are, but that doesn't mean other business is being ignored. As Variety reports today, the director and star are all set to get the band back together for another project, titled "Hereafter."
There's not much to go on in terms of plot points just yet. The article states that Warner Bros. isn't saying much, other than describing the project as a supernatural thriller in the vein of "The Sixth Sense." I wasn't a big fan of M. Night Shyamalan's breakout, but Eastwood is a more nuanced filmmaker; here's hoping he doesn't pin this new movie's success to a single, mind-bending twist. British actor Michael Sheen, who will be seen by millions this fall in “New Moon,” is reportedly in talks to join the James Bond franchise for yet another iconic role. Morgan and Sheen have collaborated many times before, most memorably for “Frost/Nixon” and “The Queen,” in which he portrayed former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. It’s possible that this link between writer and actor has led to speculative rumors of Sheen’s interest and involvement in the Bond film, but we’re hoping that it’s true. Apparently Sheen has been a fan of the 007 series since his youth, so he is likely crossing his fingers, as well. Read more...
While the press release hasn't been officially issued yet, AICN got their mitts on the news that "The Last King of Scotland," "Frost/Nixon" and "The Queen" writer Peter Morgan will be digging into the James Bond franchise for his next project. Morgan will join screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who also wrote 2006's "Casino Royale" and 2008's "Quantum of Solace."
The Bond series received of reboot of sorts with "Casino," which served as an origin story. Actor Daniel Craig stepped in to play the new Bond, and the Purvis/Wade writing team was further bolstered by "Crash" screenwriter Paul Haggis. Haggis also had a hand in writing the "Quantum" follow-up, but it appears that he'll be replaced in this outing by Morgan. Read more...
