Friday Night Lights"Friday Night Lights" fans, stop your weeping — the show ain't over yet.

Well, the show is over, but the story is looking likely to continue. "Battleship" director Peter Berg, who helmed the "Friday Night Lights" movie some years ago and helped shepherd the critically adored and recently concluded small-screen version, announced during the current TCA press tour that he's working on bringing the televised "FNL" back to movie theaters.

"We're writing a script," he said of the project, according to TV Line. “We’ve been meeting with [fellow 'FNL' EP] Jason Katims for the last couple of weeks. We have a real good script idea. We want to do it. We’re very serious about doing it. We intend to do it.”

In an interview, the Oscar-nominated actress tells EW why she sympathizes with the bow-wielding heroine: "She was a girl who’s all of a sudden being introduced to fame. As skeptical as I may have been when I first heard about the "Battleship" movie (yes, even with Peter Berg directing and a bevy of beautiful people in the cast) I have started to feel a little excitement for the film over the past few months, thanks in large part to brief encounters with cast members Brooklyn Decker, Alexander Skarsgard and Josh Pence.

My latest cast member encounter has solidified things, however, in that Taylor Kitsch has promised bad ass aliens and refused to confirm or deny the existence of a "You sunk my Battleship!" line of dialogue (which, in my opinion, means it's totally in the movie).

“Will you get to see the aliens? F--- yeah. Why would we put aliens in and not show you?" Kitsch said during the press day for his upcoming film, "The Bang Bang Club." "This is a different movie entirely than the other [alien] ones you’ve seen."

"The Hurt Locker" is unquestionably one of the best films of 2009, as evidenced by the "Avatar"-tying nine Oscar nominations it received. What this means is that star Jeremy Renner, a Best Actor contender, is burning hot right now. And so a lot of people are wondering what will be next for him.

A couple of hints surfaced today in a New York Times article which takes a general look at some of the nominees and what's coming up for them. It sounds like we'll next see Renner in "The Raven," for which Ewan McGregor is in talks to co-star. You might remember "The Raven" from our own chats with director James McTeigue; he told us last August that he was "close" to casting someone for the starring role of Edgar Allen Poe. Read More...

The arrival of "Taken" director Pierre Morel on the planet Arrakis is the latest development in the twisty history of a big screen remake of "Dune." Based on the 1965 sci-fi novel, David Lynch's version—awesomely weird, or just plain weird, depending on your sensibilities—arrived in 1984. Little over two decades later, rumors that a second cinematic take was in the works.

In the fall of 2007, Ain't It Cool News suggested that "Friday Night Lights" director Peter Berg was Paramount's top choice to helm the remake. That December, MTV News exclusively confirmed the news. Read More...

We've known for awhile now that Peter Berg is going to be too busy with other commitments -- like "Battleship" -- to direct the long-awaited adaptation of Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel "Dune." As they say in the book however, the Spice must flow. And flow it will, as Paramount has hired a new director to step in for Berg.

The new blood is Pierre Morel, according to a report from EW's Hollywood Insider. director of "Taken," the movie in which -- as MTV Newsroom editor Kyle Anderson puts in -- Liam Neeson shoots the entire population of France in the face. Morel also directed the parkour-flavored "District B13" and the upcoming John Travolta-starring action flick, "From Paris With Love," and he served as the cinematographer on popcorn action fare like "The Transporter," "War" and "Unleashed." -- Let the speculation begin. "Howling Mad" Murdock actor Dwight Schultz will be showing up for a cameo in Joe Carnahan's "The A-Team," according to a fansite. Hopefully, this means we'll be seeing other cameos from the rest of the team. Who doesn't want to see Mr. T give this young guns A-Team a vote of confidence with a tiny cameo role. Hell, he can leave his gold chains at home if it makes him happy. Schultz is great, but the fans want what they want: bring back T. (The Official Dwight Schultz Fansite, via Cinematical)

-- "Mad Men" producer Matthew Weiner is turning his attention to film now that the latest season is finished. He's now getting set to helm "You Are Here," a romantic comedy that he wrote. Independent financing is already in place and the cast will include the likes of Jennifer Aniston and "The Hangover" stars Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis. No word on a synopsis, but he'd better get cracking or he's going to leave a lot of "Mad Men" fans very disappointed. (Variety) Read More...

The word emerged today that director Peter Berg's adaptation of the Hasbro board game "Battleship" will sail into theaters on July 1, 2011, according to a report in Variety. Berg described his adaptation as "a contemporary story of an international five-ship fleet engaged in a very dynamic, violent and intense battle." It's worth noting that he didn't actually name the aggressors, so it could be anything from terrorists to aliens and beyond. Given Berg's background -- "Hancock," "The Kingdom," "The Rundown" -- it could really be anything.

Last week, the MTV's Eric Ditzian had a little chat with the director, and he was all too excited to discuss his upcoming board game adaptation. When Eric expressed skepticism about the feasability of adapting a game of this sort for the big screen, Berg jumped quickly to dismiss any concerns. Read More...

Is Peter Berg's adaptation of the sci-fi classic "Dune" going to happen? Almost two years have passed since the director confirmed his involvement with the project, a potential third take on Frank Herbert's 1965 novel after David Lynch's '84 movie and a Sci Fi Channel miniseries in 2000. While a first draft of the script has been completed, we were starting to wonder if Berg's "Dune" was one of those tantalizing cinematic possibilities that just never became a big screen reality.

Not so, Berg told MTV News. "Dune" is very much on—and to prove it, the director shared some details about what he has planned. Read More...
