Hugh JackmanMove over Liam Neeson, because Hugh Jackman is slated to be the next man to bring Jean Valjean to the big screen.

Universal and "The King's Speech" director Tom Hooper are planning on making a musical adaptation of "Les Miserables," and they're squared away on wanting Jackman to play Prisoner 24601. Deadline also reports that Paul Bettany is the top choice to play Javert, the police officer desperate to capture Jean Valjean.

His shirt was tattered in a fashion-statement kind of way, and his tan was very Jack Sparrow. My encounter with him seemed way too casual for it to be a real live interview with one of the most prominent actors of our era, Johnny Depp. Yet there I was, sitting across from the erstwhile Edward Scissorhands and Mad Hatter, chatting with him at the Paris press junket for his new movie, "The Tourist."

When I mentioned I was from Miami, Johnny told me that he used to live in Miramar, Florida -- a mere 20 miles from my home. And when he smiled, I caught a glimpse of Jack Sparrow's gold teeth. A moment later, the chatting ceased so we could begin the four-minute interview. Read More...

There I was at the climax of my trip to Paris as MTV's guest correspondent for "The Tourist" press junket... and as with the end of any good movie, I was eager to know what was about to happen. As I waited to interview Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp and Paul Bettany, I planted myself on a puffy couch in the hospitality suite of Le Meurice Hotel. I had dressed up for the occasion, wearing a chic white blazer, some shiny tights and a pair of funky round-toed gray suede wedges. Everyone there told me not to be nervous, which actually made me a little bit nervous. Journalists were taken in clusters to the interview rooms, and my group finally departed around 3 p.m.

When I walked into the room to interview Angelina, the first thing that struck me is that she's just as dazzling in person as she is on the big screen -- high definition video doesn't lie. I introduced myself and immediately said I was with MTV. It was a solid effort at gaining some credibility. "Of course you are because you look cool!" Angelina said while examining my outfit. Score! I've seen a lot during my brief stay in Paris as MTV's Ultimate "Tourist" Guest Correspondent -- the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower and a bunch of other stuff -- and I have to say that the Le Meurice Hotel must be the most spectacular hotel in the entire city. It's the epitome of European elegance... and thus the perfect locale to host "The Tourist" press junket, where I'd soon interview Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie and Paul Bettany.

(Click on the photo below for a behind-the-scenes look at Gaby's "Tourist" experience so far, including her sightseeing adventures and the preparations for her celebrity interviews.)

Gaby at The Tourist junket

I settled into a seat in the hospitality suite on the top floor to look over my questions for Johnny, Angelina and Paul, all while snacking on tiny sandwiches with the crusts cut off and taking in the view of the gorgeous cityscape. My nerves were tingling, but not in a bad way. I was excited, ready, fired up -- you get the picture. Read More...

Now that "The Tourist" has an official release date, December 10, 2010, I thought it would be appropriate to introduce the real leading man of the film: Paul Bettany. Or have him introduce himself, rather.

When I caught up with the entirely too likable actor at San Diego Comic-Con to discuss "Priest," Bettany deftly avoided revealing any actual details about his character in the film.

"I can't tell you anything!" he said. Instead, he presented his co-stars as "unknowns," (Johnny Depp plays an American tourist abroad who becomes involved with an Interpol agent, played by Angelina Jolie), and revealed who he fell in love with while making the film. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly met and fell in love on the set of the 2001 Oscar-winning drama "A Beautiful Mind." For almost the rest of the decade, they managed to avoid working together. It wasn't for lack of trying.

The two actors tried to line up an adaptation of Philip Roth's Pulitzer Prize-winning "American Pastoral" in 2004, in which they were to play a married couple torn apart by violence, but the project never took off. It wasn't until late 2008 that Bettany and Connelly reunited on camera. Again, they chose to portray a couple struggling to keep their relationship together, this time in the Charles Darwin biopic "Creation" (out January 22).

FROM MTV.COM: You'd figure that formulating the basics of evolutionary biology would involve some hard traveling, both mental and nautical. But sweat cures? Stuffed-bird riots? Little ghostie girls chattering in a corner? Who knew about that stuff?

Director Jon Amiel's "Creation" is an imaginative approach to an impossible project. First, it undertakes to tell the story of the naturalist Charles Darwin's 20-year struggle to write "On the Origin of Species," his world-changing book about the way in which plants and animals have evolved over the ages through a process that Darwin called natural (as opposed to divine) selection. The movie also sketches in the five-year-long, globe-girdling voyage during which he collected the compendious data for his book, along with much peripheral information about his health (wretched), his relationship with his devoutly religious wife (strained) and his apparently never-ending connection to his dead 10-year-old daughter (feverish). This is a lot of material to pack into 108 minutes, and "Creation" goes lumpy in attempting it.

Halo-- Wait... you mean an IESB rumor has been debunked?! I don't believe it. A weekend rumor that Steven Spielberg is interested in at the very least producing an adaptation of the hit video game "Halo" has been officially put to rest. Microsoft commented on the "news," stating that any "Halo" motion picture projects are officially on hold while the publisher concentrates on making games. I can't imagine why. Maybe it's the $60 price tag vs. the $10 movie ticket. (Kotaku)

-- Molly Ringwald wrote out a lengthy, heartfelt remembrance of her tragically fallen "Breakfast Club" and "Sixteen Candles" director, John Hughes. A lot has been said of Hughes in the past week, but Ringwald's reminiscence eclipses them all. (The New York Times) Read More...
