After the release of an impressive first trailer, expectations for "Snow White and the Huntsman" shot sky high. All of the sudden, a film that people knew almost nothing about aside from its star-studded cast led by Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth, became one of the most anticipated movies of 2012.
But the question lingers for many fans: can Kristen Stewart carry a film that isn't "Twilight"? She didn't speak a word in the trailer, which depended largely on a perfectly evil Charlize Theron to sell the film, and potential Twi-hard backlash could sink "SWATH" before it even hits theaters.
One of Snow White's trusted dwarves, Nick Frost, assured MTV News that Stewart does more than enough to prove herself.

Ever wonder how loveable funny guy Seth Rogen was transformed into a big-headed, small green alien in this year's "Paul"? Well, thanks to this exclusive behind-the-scenes clip MTV News has from the "Paul" DVD, you can find out (the disc, the Blu-ray and the On Demand film arrive August 9th).
Stars and co-writers Nick Frost and Simon Pegg explain the footage shown in the video, which feature samples of an early edit where the character Paul was just Rogen's floating head from his separate rehearsals. It was a way for the crew to get a sense of Rogen's role in the movie, even though he wasn't acting it out.
"Seth is the character, so they've shot him in rehearsal with various angles, with the other actors, but we've just got to put him into the scenes," explained editor Chris Dickens. "Essentially, I've just used the rehearsal and I've just put him in a little box."

It's the swoon heard 'round the world: Alexander Skarsgard will be again playing a Viking, but this time on the big screen.
The "True Blood" stud first donned the horned helm during the third season of the HBO show when his character's Norse roots were shown in a flashback sequence, but now Skarsgard has been tapped by Warner Bros to play a Viking in their upcoming flick "The Vanguard." Variety managed to learn that he will be one of two Viking brothers exiled to America and then begin a quest to make it back to Sweden.

If you're traveling through or near the Bronx Zoo in New York today, keep an eye out for the poisonous Egyptian cobra that has gone missing. News of such a reptilian menace on the loose would send most even-tempered individuals into a frenzy, but not Steve Martin — no, the "Father of the Bride" funny man is ready to make his move if necessary.
"An Egyptian cobra has escaped and is hiding in the Bronx zoo," Martin wrote today on Twitter. "I’m sitting in my King Tut hat by the phone awaiting their call for help."
Martin's willingness to combat poisonous snakes isn't the only interesting thing going on in the Twitter-verse today. After the jump, find out who didn't audition for Lois Lane in "Superman," which movie stars are celebrating birthdays and much more!

Oh, youth culture, with their love of all things Bieber and apparent lack of knowledge about any awesome movies from before 1985! When will they learn? Well, according to "Paul" stars and scribes Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, they'll learn a thing or two pretty soon if they -- and their little alien sidekick -- have anything to do about it.
MTV News sat down to chat with the collaborators about their latest effort, the sci-fi buddy comedy "Paul," and it seems while many who have seen the flick have caught its homages to the alien films that have come before it ("There's lots of tiny nods that are there for people to pick up on," Pegg promises, including, "A nice reference to Drew Barrymore's character in 'E.T.'"), it seems some of its younger viewers have been lost in space.
Frost told MTV that while meeting younger fans in London, he ran into a situation that would make any hardcore sci-fi junkie weep. "You mention 'Close Encounters [of the Third Kind]' or Chewbacca and they have no idea what you're talking about."

[Editor's Note: As much as we love "Blood and Ice Cream" as a title, Edgar Wright reached out to us to offer a quick correction: "FYI - the actual trilogy title (unofficial or otherwise) is Three Flavours Cornetto. Fact! 'Blood and Ice Cream' is an Internet reduction that stuck. It's our tribute to [Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieślowski of 'Three Colors'] through ice cream." Still sounds bloody delicious to us, Edgar!]
Don't take this the wrong way: we loved "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," we loved "Paul," but what we really hunger for is some more "Blood and Ice Cream."
No, we're not a pack of mad zombies who got our blood-hungry gums on some herbally-laced brains. We're talking, of course, about "The Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy," a series of movies directed by Edgar Wright and starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in the two lead roles. The first two films in the series — "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" — are more than deserving of their cult classic status, but success isn't without its drawbacks. In this case, the awesomeness of "Shaun" and "Fuzz" simply makes us desperate for news on the reportedly titled "The World's End," the third and as-yet unfilmed installment in the trilogy.
But we won't be hungry for long, according to Pegg, who told MTV News that we could see the elusive "Blood and Ice Cream" conclusion as soon as 2012.

Here's a scientific fact to start your day: aliens are rude, filthy-mouthed creatures that demand your Reese's Pieces and feast on your dead birds.

Okay, maybe that blanket statement doesn't apply to all aliens. But it certainly fits the bill when describing the extraterrestrial protagonist at the heart of "Paul," director Greg Mottola's sci-fi comedy hitting theaters in March.
We've already seen an official trailer for the Seth Rogen, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost-starring flick, and if that bowled you over, trust us -- you haven't seen anything yet. We've got a look at the extremely NSFW red band trailer from "Paul" after the jump!

It's hard to put our collective Movies Blog finger down on what exactly it is we love so much about the new "Paul" trailer.
Maybe it's the clear, loving homage to "2001: A Space Odyssey" at the beginning of the trailer when this film is an extra-terrestrial movie that's anything but. Maybe it's the way Seth Rogen's voice is so perfectly suited for this tiny rude green alien. Or maybe it's just that we're happy to see Simon Pegg and Nick Frost back together again.
Regardless of the reason, the "Paul" trailer has hit the web courtesy of Yahoo UK, and it's pretty freaking fantastic. In addition to our three heroes, Kristen Wiig joins the team to help protect Paul, and ends up having some romantic moments with Pegg in the meantime. And then there's Jason Bateman as a special agent out to capture and presumably kill Paul for setting foot on planet Earth. And is that Sigourney Weaver's voice we hear as his commander? It sure is! Ellen DeGeneres' announced departure from "American Idol" cued a few posts in Twitter-Wood today. Conan O'Brien has confidence in her, but for James Urbaniak it was just one more reminder that Steve Agee closed his personal account a few weeks ago.
The report is loaded with pictures today, too, as a couple of faces from "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" stopped by Pixar, Miranda Cosgrove showed how hard she's been studying for the SAT and Nick Frost just knows how to were a suit. Check out the retweet slideshow below along with a "Salt" reaction from Kevin Williamson.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is Twitter-Wood for July 30, 2010. Read more...
