Although it didn't quite make the Sweet Sixteen in our big MTV Movie Brawl 2012, "Gangster Squad" is most definitely a film that we can't wait to see this year. The film is based on real-life events from the 1940s and 1950s when the LAPD tried to keep the east coast mafia from infiltrating Los Angeles. The very stellar actors involved are: Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte and Anthony Mackie.

When MTV News caught up with Mackie recently during the press day for "Man On A Ledge," we asked him how much fun the cast had with all the old-fashioned gun play required for the film noir.

"You know what, we did some pretty awesome gun stuff. It's actually going to be a really good movie. It looks amazing, L.A. is a city that's made for noir films and [director] Ruben [Fleischer] put together an untouchable cast," Mackie said. "You have these amazing actors, Sean Penn did his thing, it's a fun movie to be a part of. The guns stuff you will not be disappointed. There's a lot of Tommy gun craziness, bullets flying, everything."

Ever since the "World War Z" film synopsis hit the Internets last month, the most loyal fans of the beloved Max Brooks novel have been up in arms about the fact that the movie is trading out Brooks' post-war setting in favor of having star Brad Pitt's character, a U.N. staffer, fight to stop the Zombie pandemic from wiping out the entire population.

MTV News recently caught up with director Marc Forster during the Toronto International Film Festival where he was promoting his upcoming film "Machine Gun Preacher" to find out how he is approaching the translation of Brooks' novel from page to big screen.

"The idea, obviously the book is not written as a narrative, you try to take things from the book, but at same time you're changing certain things," Forster explained. "I do feel we're trying to keep it in the spirit of the book because it's important.

Neil Blomkamp's much buzzed-about upcoming film "Elysium" had many of us sold even before its stellar cast was announced. Mostly because his first film, "District 9," was SO great! But now with all the star power of Matt Damon, Sharlto Copley, Jodie Foster, Wagner Moura and my favorite, William Fichtner, the movie is pretty much a must-see. Even if we have to wait until March 8, 2013, to see it.

Although details are scarce, I managed to get Jodie Foster to talk briefly about her role as an alien head of state during the press day for "The Beaver" on Tuesday.

When asked whether her character will be a good or bad alien ruler, Foster said she'll be a little bit of both.

"I'm kind of evil-ish, yes, I'm kind of evil-ish, which you know I love," she said. "I'm just excited to work with Neil Blomkamp, the director of "District 9," which I think is pretty much as close to a perfect film that I can think of, and Matt Damon, who I'm a big fan of, and Sharlto Copley."

Sherlock Holmes 2Perhaps this week is poised to be the week of title announcements? After yesterday's big reveal from Sony regarding the new Spidey movie, "The Amazing Spider-Man," Warner Brothers announced today that the highly anticipated re-teaming of Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Guy Ritchie for the sequel to 2009's blockbuster "Sherlock Holmes," is called...wait for it..."Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows."

E! Online was first on the 'Net with the announcement, which Warner Brothers confirmed to MTV News. While the cynics at E! deemed the title "lame," I wouldn't go that far. Particularly since I'm not familiar enough with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's repetoire to know if "Game of Shadows" means anything with regard to plot line. What it does instantly bring to mind, however, is the highly anticipated HBO Series "A Game of Thrones." But I digress...

We have plenty of time to come to terms with the new title. The hint of "Shadows" only adds to the teases we've seen, by way of on-set interviews and cast members from the first film who may or may not be making cameo appearances in the second one.

The super sleuth's second installment, with Ritchie, RDJ and Law, is scheduled to be released December 16, 2011.

What do you think of the sequel's title? Drab or delightful? Tell us in the comment section or on Twitter!

Peter JacksonFans of "The Hobbit" have waited with baited breath to see if the long-anticipated, seemingly troubled-from-the-get-go production would get off the ground, particularly after director Guillermo del Toro dropped out of the project last May.

Since then, Peter Jackson has stepped in, but Wednesday night the film had another setback as the Oscar-winning director underwent surgery for a perforated ulcer, according to a statement from production.

Filming was expected to start sometime next month, but will be delayed as Jackson, who was admitted to New Zealand's Wellington Hospital after experiencing acute stomach pains, heals from the surgery. According to Entertainment Weekly, a New Line Cinema rep confirmed that the director "is resting comfortably and doctors expect a full recovery."

The statement from production also assured that Jackson's "surgery is not expected to impact on his directing commitment to 'The Hobbit' beyond a slight delay to the start of filming."

Just how "slight" the delay ends up being remains to be seen. The two parts of Jackson's "Hobbit" will feature many actors reprising their roles from the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, including Sir Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett and Elijah Wood (not to mention that rumored $1 million, two-minute cameo by Orlando Bloom.)

Parts 1 and 2 of "The Hobbit" are slated for December 2012 and December 2013 releases, respectively.

Do you think "The Hobbit" will continue to face setbacks throughout filming or will it be smooth sailing after Jackson's recovery?

Howdy Twilighters! We've got some good news for you today. The DVD release date for "New Moon" has been announced: March 20. That's the only detail we have at this point, but as you can see in the box art image below, it will be a features-packed two-disc special edition release. Not terribly surprising of course, but it's good to have a date and some hard facts to pin your hopes to, right? What sort of extras do you hope to see on the discs? Sound off in the comments below!

Edward Cullen doll

We're already cringing at the implications of this one, but now you can get your hands all over a fully poseable version of Edward Cullen.

Or, more specifically, two fully poseable Cullens — one in standard action-figure form and the other of the deluxe, hand-painted figurine variety. Thanks to the good folks at Hot Topic and Tonner Character Figurines, "Twilight" fans can now preorder their very own version of the brooding "Twilight" star.

The Hot Topic figure stands 11.5 inches tall, has "beautiful articulation" (of course) and retails for $16.99 (he also kind of looks like Luke Perry). He's decked out in a blue button-up, jeans and a peacoat, and packaged with an exclusive Cullen family crest. The 17-inch limited-edition Tonner doll costs a bit more (like, $139.99), but that's 'cause he's hand-sculpted from the likeness of "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson and comes with "rooted saran hair" (what does that even mean?). He sports 14 points of articulation, and comes dressed in a T-shirt, jeans and shoes "with working laces." Tonner also has a Bella doll that's a whole 2 inches shorter and has the same sorts of details (hope she won't trip on the laces!).
