Whether you're watching a cattle drive crew cook some baked beans over a campfire or a shootout in front of a saloon, odds are you're going to see a striking 'stache somewhere in that scene peeking out from under the brim of a Stetson. For our final Movember Mustache Movie Madness column during the international men's health fundraiser where hombres grow mustaches for a month to benefit the Livestrong and Prostate Cancer Foundations, let's focus on some of the most memorable mustaches to mosey across the big screen.

Robert Redford as Henry Longabaugh, a.k.a. the "Sundance Kid," in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"
Unarguably one of Hollywood's handsomest leading men, people forget that Redford's good looks were aided by a thick mustache in his breakthrough role. And, while we're on the topic of truisms, let's take a look at that manly mustache. This 'stache not only starred in an undisputed western classic, were it not for this below-the-nose mo-growth, there wouldn't be a Sundance Film Festival. While on screen the Sundance Kid's 'stache ended up soaked in blood after going out in a blaze of glory, it formed the fuzzy foundation of a career that would help shape the movie industry for years to come.

Hollywood has a long love affair with history that rivals some of cinema's greatest romances. While mustaches may not be tremendously hip nowadays, many fine films take place in eras where the 'stache was much more commonplace. Though Movember—the men's health charity event where gentlemen grow and groom mustaches to raise funds for the Livestrong and Prostate Cancer Foundations—is a relatively young fundraiser, 'stache-growing participants can look to the past for present-day mustache motivation.

Brad Pitt as Lieutenant Aldo Raine in "Inglourious Basterds"
Sure, Aldo Raine's World War II-era 'stache may not have helped his ability to pull off a proper Italian accent, but that certainly didn't stop this mustachioed soldier from killing more than his fair share of Nazis—one of history and cinema's most recognizable groups of villains. Groomed to perfection in the field and undercover, Raine's mustache was as easily recognizable as his big f---ing knife!

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, they may not have had Movember—the men's health charity event where blokes grow mustaches to raise funds for the Livestrong and Prostate Cancer Foundations—but they certainly had facial hair. And where razors are needed, there are brave and bold gentlemen willing to take their whiskers where few dapper, masculine men have gone before.

From the far-flung future to the other side of the universe, here are some of sci-fi's finest mustaches.

Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian in the original Star Wars trilogy
You can't have a list of great sci-fi 'staches without lauding the luscious upper lip hair of the smoothest guy in the Star Wars galaxy! Lando Calrissian—a gambler turned administrator turned military general—was one of the greatest heroes the Rebel Alliance had in the fight against the Galactic Empire. A notorious ladies' man as well, flashing that mustachioed smile could melt hearts of women from Coruscant to the Outer Rim.

Each year during the month of November, men grow mustaches to help raise cancer-fighting funds for the Livestrong and Prostate Cancer Foundations. It's a month-long effort to change the face of men's health called Movember. As the sound of 'staches sprouting worldwide sends a manly signal across the globe, one begins to compulsively contemplate the many amazing mustaches men have sported in movies throughout the years.

Let's begin with a look at a popular film profession well known for its prowess in the proud mustache tradition: Police officers!

Danny Glover as Roger Murtaugh in the "Lethal Weapon" franchise
Roger Murtaugh was a solid cop for years, but when he began his 50th birthday by shaving his beard into a mustache, he went from being a good cop getting the job done to an exceptional lawman taking down drug cartels and Asian mob operations. Murtaugh's 'stache was "too old for this s---" in the first "Lethal Weapon" but kept kicking and kicking ass for three more films. Most would claim his partner Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) was a bigger key to his success, but don't overlook his other constant companion: the mustache.
