Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

"Blomkvist and Salander have an odd relationship." Daniel Craig seems to be putting the emotional core of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" a bit lightly in the excerpt from this month's Empire magazine cover story, but that relationship is exactly what the sexy photos released from the issue are highlighting.

From Craig's Blomkvist handcuffed to a chair, to Rooney Mara's Salander blowing cigarette smoke into his mouth, the newest images from the film are showing off director David Fincher's knack for sexy, sexy filmmaking. As if you had any doubts, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is looking much closer to Fincher's work on "Fight Club" than on last year's "The Social Network."

I have no idea what this is. Okay, that's not precisely correct. I do know that it's awesome. But what does it relate to?!

I should explain. A live action short film appeared online yesterday from YouTube user MortalKombatRebirth. Those who are familiar with the video game fighting series "Mortal Kombat" will definitely recognize the characters. Jax (and it's MICHAEL JAI WHITE!!!), Sonya, Baraka, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Shang Tsung, Reptile, Johnny Cage... not everyone, but a lot.

I guarantee that the tone of the short differs from anything you've ever seen out of the "Mortal Kombat" universe. There's some "Saw" in here for sure, that gory, grainy feel, like you need to take a bath after watching it. It's dead serious and pretty in-your-face with the gore. Also, it's great. I have no idea if it's pegged to a movie or a video game or if it's just a standalone piece of awesome tape -- we've reached out to Warner Bros. for comment -- but I would guess that it is definitely not fan-produced. Check it out after the jump. Read More...

Last summer we heard from Scorpion actor Chris Casamassa that another return to video game adaptation "Mortal Kombat" was being planned. At the time -- early July -- he said that the plan was to start shooting in September. We reached out to Warner Bros for confirmation, and never heard back.

It seems that the September shoot Casamassa referenced didn't come to pass. In fact, if the latest news is accurate, he might not even be involved in the next "Mortal Kombat." WB is apparently interested in rebooting the franchise, and they're talking to Oren Uziel about writing it, Bloody-Disgusting reports. Uziel doesn't have a feature credit yet, but his script for "Shimmer Lake" was marked as one of last year's Black List titles, a round-up of the most bafflingly unproduced pitches of the year. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobraby Alan Kistler

For years, people have enjoyed the adventures of the G.I. Joe team, a counter-terrorist unit made up of people from all military branches. In the comics, the Joes have repeatedly encountered the alien warriors known as the Transformers, leading to some fun crossover stories.

Now that G.I. Joe has returned -- as a multi-national organization, of course -- to the spotlight with the new film "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" and brand new comics from IDW, I got to wondering what other fun crossovers could occur with this new team. So in the same vein of my list of "Transformers" crossovers, here are some fun team-ups that I think would be entertaining for everyone. Read More...

Mortal KombatAfter the divisive first "Mortal Kombat" film and its subsequently messy sequel "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation," it felt like a foregone conclusion that the video game franchise had received it's final film fatality. A new rumor floating around on the Interwebs is suggesting that a third movie could happen sooner than you can shout "Get over here!"

In an interview with the SGV Tribune, martial artist Chris Casamassa, who played Scorpion in the first two movies, said that he'll be on hand when the third installment in the franchise starts shooting this September. The remark is offered rather off-handedly, and could be completely off-base for all I know. Still, the possibilities of another "Mortal Kombat" film certainly get the wheels turning. Read More...
