Expect to see more Transformers doing battle in 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' next summer, say writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (they also penned the script for original mega-hit last summer). Just don't go in expecting a T-Rex. Yes, fans of all the various incarnations of Transformers have wondered what new robots in disguise they might see in the next go round currently filming. Well Orci and Kurtzman confirmed to MTV one you won't be seeing: Dinobots. "We couldn’t quite figure out how to justify a robot that would pretend to be a dinosaur," Orci said.
Alright no dinosaurs. I guess that would be hard to make work even in a movie about talking robots disguised as cars. But surely Megatron will be back? Orci and Kurtzman playfully danced around the question. "Didn’t he get thrown into the bottom of the ocean?" Kurtzman laughed, with his partner adding, "That would be silly" in regards to a return for the arch-nemesis of the Autobots. Read more...
First there was "Back to the Future," and then "The Matrix," and then, more recently, "Pirates of the Caribbean," where literally the last thing said on screen during the second film was a cliffhanging new plot point. If you've got a successful franchise, why not link the second and third movies, forcing audiences to wait upwards of a year for resolution?
Because it's friggin "lame," "Transformers" director Michael Bay insisted to us at the MTV Movie Awards, telling MTV News that the second go-round with Optimus Prime would be entirely self-contained.
"You know how those sequels they do the second one so you go see the third one? ["Transformers 2”] is it," he said, indicating that "2” would be its own story free from the duel shackles of set-up or resolution. "First one was just introducing, setting up stuff, so we can go a lot farther. Let's just say [this] is not a lame sequel." Read more...
Say what you will about the implausibility of Michael Bay movies, there's nothing funny about giant robots chasing innocent people around a college campus.
Ok, one thing. Or, rather, one person.
That would be Rainn Wilson, who will have a small role in "Transformers 2," as some kind of professor, "The Office" star revealed exclusively to MTV News during an MTV Sneak Peek Week screening of his new film "The Rocker."
"A professor that turns into a car that turns into a robot," he laughed. Read more...
Recently, the news broke that Jonah Hill won't be rolling out in "Transformers 2” after all. It's sad, sad news for movie fans hoping the sequel would get a legitimate comedic-sidekick injection rather than, say, filling the role with Dax Shepard.
According to series producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the movie has had to move on without the "Superbad" star – but we can still expect some big announcements over the next several weeks.
"No, no," he said of Hill's reported casting. "Ultimately, we'll have a couple casting surprises for everybody soon."
Director Michael Bay and returning stars Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox and Jon Voight are reportedly on board to return, and Bonaventura confirmed plans to start shooting the movie in Philadelphia and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania next month. Read more...
Poor Uwe Boll. I've seen fanboys take a stand against bad directors, but I've never seen anybody so reviled that there's literally hundreds of thousands of people ready to stand up and scream in a clear, loud voice, "For the love of all that is holy, please stop making movies!" Which, of course, is exactly what is happening to Boll, with an online petition practically guaranteed to hit a million signatures before too long.
But why Boll and not others? That's what Boll himself wants to know, telling MTV News that too many directors get a "free pass."
Oh boy, here we go again. Read more...

MTV News Hip-Hop Editor Shaheem Reid is on location at the MTV Movie Awards, prepping for the big show. Here he details his geek-out encounter with some of the actual vehicles from Michael Bay's upcoming summer blockbuster, "Transformers," which currently sit on our red carpet.
You know it's a pretty big deal when the "protectors" of Earth have security guards making sure nobody touches them. Their movie doesn't come out until July 3rd, but the Transformers have been getting the Hollywood treatment all week...and deservedly so. They are legends. If you're 25 or older -- especially a male 25 or older -- chances are the Transformers were an intimate part of your life in the '80s. Either you loved them or your kids loved them.
I remember every day after elementary school, there were some shows that you could just not miss: "G.I. Joe," "He-Man," "Thundercats," "Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers" (I'm so ashamed of that one), "DuckTales" (ok, two guilty pleasures in a row), and of course "Transformers." Robots in disguise!!!! So you know how geeked I was when I heard that Michael Bay was bringing one of my all-time favorite cartoons to the big screen. I was even more jazzed (pun intended) to learn that I would be covering this year's MTV Movie Awards, and part of my assignment would be to write about some of the Autobot cars from "Transformers" that would be on display at the big show. What's next? Lunch with Mer-Man and Evil-Lyn at Castle Grayskull? Read more...
Segment Producer Vanessa White Wolf took a moment from her hectic schedule leading up to this Sunday's MTV Movie Awards (8PM/7C) to let us know what she's busy with as all of us here prepare for the big show.
So today was my first day in the L.A. offices for this year's MTV Movie Awards Pre-Show (airing Sunday at 7:30PM ET). My first order of business is working with editor extraordinaire Darryl Fox on the very special Fashion Transformations we'll be featuring in the Pre-Show.
Finishing a rough cut of the Megan Fox segment as I type this; the "Transformers" star let our cameras tag along as she met with her stylists to pick a dress for the show. She, of course, looks amazing in pretty much anything so I think the most difficult part will be deciding which one she likes best. Unfortunately, as I watch the tape, she says that each of the 17 dresses (not that many, but almost) is her favorite.
As soon as we're done with that, Darryl and I will start piecing together the Whitney Port segment. You'll remember Whitney from "The Hills" as LC's co-intern at Teen Vogue. We followed her and her friend Joanna as they shopped on Robertson Blvd.
In the next few days, we'll be working on "Transformers" exclusive segments, like a look at all the cars featured in the film and a segment focused on director Michael Bay. During the actual pre-show, I'll be floor-producing SuChin Pak on our homebase from the hot pink carpet. Immediately after, I'll run to the production truck to cut various pieces for the on demand post show. So yeah, a pretty busy week ahead. I must say, for the record, the L.A. offices are much bigger than the NYC offices. And they have much better lighting. Plus, Red Vines and ice cream sandwiches in the vending machines! It's ridiculous.
