A Nightmare on Elm Street-- Freddy's back for a "Nightmare on Elm Street" sequel, possibly in 3-D, as Warner distribution president Dan Fellman says: "We don't have a story yet, but this is the largest horror opening in the April-May corridor, and it just proves there's a lot left in the franchise." [The Wrap]

-- Rumors are circulating that a trailer for a J.J. Abrams project called "Super 8," which may or may not be a sequel to "Cloverfield," will premiere in front of "Iron Man 2." Who knows if there's any truth to the rumor, though director Matt Reeves recently acknowledged "spikes in activity" regarding the project. [HitFix]

-- Michael Keaton loves talking about playing Ken in "Toy Story 3," and we love hearing him talk about it. "Ken actually serves as kind of a concierge — somewhere between a tour guide, a concierge, maitre d' and ambassador," he says. "Daybreakers" was a surprisingly entertaining early 2010 release. The first quarter of any year is typically Hollywood's test lab and cesspool; movies frequently come here to die. It wasn't so in this case, and that's thanks largely to Peter and Michael Spierig, aka The Spierig Brothers.

"Daybreakers" is a rather unconventional vampire action flick, one set in a world which has been overrun by the blood-suckers to the point that they're the dominant species on the planet and human plasma has become a precious, dwindling commodity, something to be farmed from any survivors that are found. Personally, I think this is a perfect pairing of filmmakers and source material. You can find the key reasons why after the jump. Read More...

Captain BloodIt's clearly a sci-fi oriented Friday, and I think we probably have Comic-Con to thank. On the heels of the "Alien" prequel announcement comes an offbeat bit of news that sends a pirate into orbit. According to Variety, Michael and Peter Spierig ("Daybreakers") will be directing a remake of the 1935 pirate film "Captain Blood" for Warner Bros. Rather go all Jack Sparrow on us, they're sending this particular pirate of the Caribbean into the final frontier.

The story of "Captain Blood" is a long way from Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean." It follows an Irish doctor with the rather gruesome name of Peter Blood who finds himself wrongly accused and imprisoned. He decides that piracy is a better option, and he joins with a French buccaneer named Levasseur. Together, they happily raid and pillage until the Frenchman comes between Blood and his lady love, Arabella Bishop. Cue the duels and swashbuckling! Read More...
