Watching Michael Shannon play a potentially disturbed man in "Take Shelter" was one of the most harrowing movie-going experiences in 2011. In the film, he plays Curtis, a man who has apocalyptic visions and is unsure whether to take them seriously or not. Just to be safe, he begins to expand his family's tornado shelter, in order to protect his family.
The film's most frightening scene comes near the end of the film at a community fish fry, when a friend confronts Curtis about his strange behavior. Shannon erupts in fury in an unforgettable scene, made all the more real because the extras in the shot didn't know what was going to happen.

When asked to think of the most adorable actor we could possibly come up with to guest star on After Hours' latest program, "Adorable Things," only one name could come to mind for the MTV Movies team: Michael Shannon.
The "Man of Steel" star has made a name for himself being cute and cuddly in projects like "Boardwalk Empire," "Revolutionary Road" and "Take Shelter." The lovable actor came on the show recently to have his cheeks pinched, side tickled and be barked at, and provide us with the best use of five minutes we've had all day.
Needless to say, if you're a fan of Shannon's work, this is not an After Hours to miss.

For every list of movie award nominations, there will probably be an almost equally long list of snubs. Unsurprisingly, this year's Golden Globe nominations missed some of the year's best work, but some of the snubs were just too big to ignore.
To right some of the wrongs, we picked our five most unforgivable oversights from the Golden Globe nominations.

With Jennifer Lawrence signed to "The Hunger Games," Blake Lively is ready to get savage.
Lawrence's departure from Oliver Stone's latest, "Savages," has opened the door for hot young Hollywood actresses from Olivia Wilde to Teresa Palmer to land the lead role, but now Variety has the news that Stone wants Lively to play main female character Ophelia. That's all well and good, except The Playlist has the news that she's also looking to join Mila Kunis and James Franco in "Oz: The Great and Powerful," so nothing is set in stone yet.
After the jump, Michael Shannon talks his casting as General Zod in "Superman," a main "American Pie" actress returns for their "Reunion" and Alec Baldwin and Jesse Eisenberg could be headed towards Woody Allen's latest.

Director Matt Reeves, who scared the bejeezus out of us with "Let Me In" and "Cloverfield," is out to make his feel uneasy once again.
According to Deadline, Reeves is adapting Ray Nelson's chilling short story, "8 O’Clock in the Morning," about a man who has visions of aliens controlling society, for Universal. If it sounds familiar, it's because the 1988 John Carpenter classic "They Live" is also adapted from the short story. [Ed. Note: Pretty sure the short story doesn't include the most epic fist fight in the history of forever, though.] Don't expect this to be another remake, however, As Reeves plans to take nothing from "They Live" for his film.

After giving a part that was originally intended for Mel Gibson to Liam Neeson, "The Hangover Part II" director Todd Phillips has changed things up yet again.
Over the weekend Variety reported that Phillips, while editing the comedy, decided to cut the scene that immediately followed Neeson's. The only problem was that Neeson's scene required both a re-write and a re-shoot. Since Neeson was tied up in London filming "Clash of the Titans 2," Phillips had to find a replacement. He chose Nick Cassavetes, who will now play the tattoo artist in Bangkok that the Wolf Pack run into in their midst of their shenanigans.
Check out the rest of today's casting news after the jump, including Michael Shannon snagging the role of the villainous Zod in the "Man of Steel," Jessica Biel closing in on the "Total Recall" reboot and more!

Whenever I see Michael Shannon is in something, I sit up and take notice. You should too. He's delightfully bizarre, and he channels that aspect of his personality very well in all of his roles. You probably remember him most recently from "The Runaways," in which he played band manager Kim Fowley.
The news today is that Shannon will star as the villain in "Premium Rush," opposite star Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The story follows Gordon-Levitt as a dirty cop (Shannon) pursues him through New York City, set on recovering some mysterious envelope that has come into the kid's possession. Jamie Chung, who appears in this Friday's "Grown Ups," is also in talks to star. Head over to The Hollywood Reporter for the full story.

FROM SPLASH PAGE: Actor Michael Shannon will be seen on screen with "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart in "The Runaways" later this month, but just he'll also be appearing alongside Josh Brolin in June as a character in "Jonah Hex," the live-action film based on DC's western hero.
MTV News managed to get some info on Shannon's "Hex" role during a press event for the "Runaways" biopic.
"I play a fellow named Doc Cross Williams," said Shannon. "In the comic book, or graphic novel, he's kind of one of those old vaudevillian... He has a traveling show where he has cock fights and dog fights and strange creatures, and he's a snake-oil kind of guy."

Sex, drugs, rock n' roll and the girls from "Twilight"?!? Don't have too big a laugh though because Kristen Stewart and most especially Dakota Fanning rock the house with the best of them in "The Runaways," an electrifying if formulaic account of the brief rise and fall of the titular band.
Forget the executive producer credit for Joan Jett, the true telling credit for the film is where director Floria Sigismondi found her source material--lead singer Cherie Currie's memoir.
Indeed, "The Runaways" is owned and just about swallowed up by Fanning's riveting portrayal of the singer (not too dissimilar from the way Currie overwhelmed the group). First glimpsed as a teen literally transforming into a woman, this is the performance that seems sure to launch Fanning into a new thrilling phase of her career. From a sulking broodish David Bowie enthusiast to a howling rock goddess Fanning sells sells sells. I'd watch that band. Hells yeah. Read more...

I know all of you Twilighters are jazzed about seeing Kristen Stewart step into the shoes of Joan Jett in band biopic "The Runaways." You already got your first taste, compliments of the debut teaser trailer. Here's a brand-new look, the scene in which Jett and bandmate Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning) meet for the first time, by way of producer and band co-founder Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon). Enjoy!
