'Eclipse' Premiere Tweets, Michael Jackson And 'Jonah Hex' In Today's Twitter-Wood

"Eclipse" cast members, Twitter-Wood entourages and MTV News all converged on the new "Twilight" film's premiere yesterday, and everyone who didn't make it can feel free to live vicariously through the posts that resulted after the jump.

Today, meanwhile, marks one year since Michael Jackson passed away, and Mariah Carey and Diddy both spoke out via Twitter about his death. June 25, 2009, was one of the busiest days the Twitter-Wood feed has ever seen, by the way. Nashville Flooding, U.K. Elections And 'American Idol' In Today's Twitter-Wood

Whether or not you have an opinion about the general election going on in Great Britain right now, you can surely agree with Nick Frost's position that Gandalf would be make a splendid candidate. I agree with him, at least.

What may be more difficult to agree with, meanwhile, is Frankie Muniz's resemblance to axed "American Idol" contestant Aaron Kelly, though some of his followers see a compelling likeness there. Twitter-Wood is littered with such trivia today, in addition to which Hollywood screenwriter uses the "Super Mario Bros." theme as a ringtone, how Arnold Schwarzenegger spent Cinco de Mayo and which actress finds Gwyneth Paltrow's blog troubling. 'Hot Tub Time Machine,' WrestleMania XXVI And Sandra Bullock In Today's Twitter-Wood

Some of the "Hot Tube Time Machine" cast members want to see it trending more often on Twitter, while others, like Rob Corddry, just want to see rank in some more dough -- though I think he may be joking about his expectations. Nevertheless, however well the show does this weekend, they do appear to have sold a ticket to Damon Lindelof.

The recent burst of spring weather has prompted plenty outdoor activities in Twitter-Wood as well. Take Mariah Carey for instance, who's taken up swimming with puppies, and Chris Kattan, who's renting a place on the beach. 'The Lovely Bones' Star Stanley Tucci Praises Christina Aguilera's Acting Debut In 'Burlesque'

When Eminem decided that his status as a superstar musician gave him the credentials to become an actor, the result was “8 Mile,” an Oscar-nominated instant classic; Mariah Carey’s 2001 bomb “Glitter” might just be the worst movie ever made. Somewhere in between, we’ve had Britney’s “Crossroads,” Whitney Houston’s “The Bodyguard,” 50 Cent’s “Get Rich or Die Tryin’,” and dozens of other boundary-defying debuts. Now, it’s time for Christina Aguilera to finally make the move – and one of her famous co-stars thinks Xtina has what it takes.

“I hear she’s wonderful,” explained Stanley Tucci, the accomplished veteran actor/writer/director of more than 80 movies and TV shows, who has been cast alongside Aguilera in “Burlesque,” also starring Cher, Kristen Bell and Cam Gigandet. “I’ve been talking to some of the people at the studio, and everyone is thrilled with her.” Read More...

'Precious' Star Gabourey Sidibe Recalls Her On-Set 'Battle' With Mariah Carey

FROM MTV.COM: With an impressive box-office opening this past weekend, "Precious" proved to be worth all the critical acclaim and excitement brewing around it. The film features standout performances by pop star Mariah Carey, comedian Mo'nique and newcomer Gabourey Sidibe, who plays the title role. Sidibe credits director Lee Daniels for allowing the women to explore their characters.

"It was really, really cool. A lot of things that we said wasn't in the script, and so, like, we had free range," Sidibe said during her appearance on CBS' "Early Show" on Monday. "Mr. Daniels made sure we knew what the scene was about and that we can do whatever we felt like, and so it was really cool. And [Carey] was on her toes and I was on my toes, and it was almost like a fight, like a battle, because we are not friends really in this film at all. It was really cool."

Mariah Carey 'Becomes What An Actress Has To Become,' Says 'Precious' Author Sapphire

This weekend, audiences will get their first shot at checking out shoe-in Oscar contender "Precious," director Lee Daniels' adaptation of the book "Push: A Novel," by Sapphire. I checked it out at Sundance in January. To say that I "loved it" isn't quite accurate; it's a challenging film, with lots of craft behind a wholly depressing and frequently horrifying story. It deserves the accolades it's getting, but it's not the kind of movie you really fall in love with.

That said, there are some stellar performances. I thought the real standout was Mo'Nique, who plays the abusive mother of the protagonist, teenage pregnant girl Precious (Gabourey Sidibe). Sidibe has also been getting plenty of praise (the word "Oscar" keeps popping up in reference to her), as has pop icon Mariah Carey, who plays a small but vital role as a social worker. MTV reporter Akshay Bhansali recently caught up with Sapphire and Paula Patton (she plays a teacher at a progressive school in the film), and they were more than happy to talk about Carey's and Sidibe's contributions. Mariah CareyMariah Carey gets a lot of grief over being a bad actress -- "Glitter," anyone? -- but she was believable enough to fool her "husband."

Lance Reddick -- who's known for his work on "The Wire" and "Lost" and will be a FBI agent on J.J. Abrams' upcoming television show "Fringe"-- was cast late in the game for the upcoming movie "Tennessee" ("Honestly, they were going to go with a bigger name," Reddick said, "but they lost that someone"). So by the time he was signed up as Carey's character's husband Frank, "I had less than a week before we started shooting," Reddick said. Read More...
