Remember the “Mamma Mia!” movie that came out last year? The one that starred Meryl Streep and was based on the stage musical, which itself was based on a whole bunch of ABBA songs from the '70s? Yeah, well that movie is now the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK box-office, having beaten James Cameron’s “Titanic.” Lemme state that again: “Mamma Mia!” is the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK box-office.

Mother’s Day. Of our many Hallmark holidays, this is the one that's easiest to get on board with. Mothers are the unsung superheroes of this world. They raise us and they feed us. Their love is unconditional. Even the troublemaker who leaked that workprint of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" online has a mother who loves him. Probably.
So we all agree: moms rock. That doesn’t mean they’re always welcome though. You probably don’t want to bring her to the bar or to some friend’s house party. You definitely don’t want to bring her along on a date. “Mamma Mia!” star Dominic Cooper has had a pretty good run as of late. His ABBA-inspired musical raked in $140+ million at the box office, he’s rumored to be dating gorgeous co-star Amanda Seyfried and—when we caught up with the British actor on the Oscar red carpet—he was getting ready to sing live in front of countless Hollywood A-listers and millions of regular folks watching on TVs across the globe.
What we really wanted to know from Cooper was if that good run will soon include a “Mamma Mia!” sequel, as has been rumored. “We’re in negotiations,” he said, before waving off that idea. “No, I have no idea. I keep hearing rumors.” Read more...
Is it just me, or was 2008 one of the worst years for movies ever?
Well folks, the time has finally come to vent. It’s one of my favorite days of the year, as my Razzie ballot just arrived in the mail. As a registered voter, I take my obligation very seriously, and it’s always interesting to see what the annual awards for bad filmmaking have nominated for the worst of the worst.

Very quietly, it has sung and danced its way to becoming one of the biggest hits of the summer. The theater nearby me is playing a sing-along-version with subtitled songs on the screen; my wife and mother-in-law bonded when they went to see it together. So, why aren’t we hearing anything about a “Mamma Mia!” sequel?
“Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be happening,” star Dominic Cooper revealed to us recently when we asked him for the news. “But I'm desperate for a role.”
After the flick’s smash success, Cooper insisted that he and many of his co-stars would love to see the high-energy film become a franchise. And, at least in his own mind, plotlines are brewing. Read more...
