Javier BardemJavier Bardem, you have reached "The Dark Tower."

After months of casting rumors that eventually squared firmly on the "psychologically" locked Spanish actor, it now appears all but certain that Bardem will step into the role of gunslinger Roland Deschain. Deadline has the news (and we say thankya) that Bardem is close enough to completing his deal that director Ron Howard is already meeting with other actors to cast roles based on Bardem's commitment to a trilogy of films and a limited television run between each movie.

Bardem's nearly-sealed deal isn't the only casting news in the movies world today. After the jump, learn who's been cast as the villain opposite Jonah Hill in "21 Jump Street," who's playing a femme fatale in "The Three Stooges" and much more!

Some movie trailers, like the first for this summer's hit "Inception," reveal absolutely nothing about the film but leave viewers with an unquenchable thirst to see it. Other trailers, like the one just released for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's action-thriller "Faster," basically leave viewers feeling like they've just watched the entire movie in the span of two-and-a-half minutes. But, as the "Faster" trailer illustrates, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The clip shows Johnson's character Driver -- who's fresh off a 10-year prison sentence and looking to avenge his brother's murder -- methodically blowing away most of his bro's killers (there are like 10) while being pursued by a soon-to-be-retired cop (Billy Bob Thornton), a young Abercrombie-model-looking hitman (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) and Shannon from "Lost" (Maggie Grace).

Sure, the trailer probably shouldn't have shown (or implied) some of those killings, but we're going to go out on a limb and say that the feature film will contain a few great death scenes, as well as some twists, not depicted in the clip. Read more...

Good news, all. Luc Besson is going back to sci-fi! The "Fifth Element" director has locked down "Lockout," a movie in which a man who is conspiracy is fired into space to rescue the president's daughter from an orbiting prison that's been taken over by rioting inmates. Deadline, reporting the news, characterizes the story as "Taken" in outer space. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's definitely a little "Escape from New York" in there too, right?

Maggie Grace, who, incidentally, starred in "Taken," is signed on for the female lead in "Lockout." Guy Pearce is attached for the male lead, our aforementioned convicted conspirator who in fact did not commit any crimes. Besson, who wrote and produced "Taken," has been busy in recent years directing a series of movies that started with children's book adaptation "Arthur and the Invisibles." I'm encouraged to see him stepping back towards more grown-up fare with "Lockout."

-- The Sundance Film Festival will add the Next section for next year's gathering. The category will showcase six to eight films which make "innovative and original" use of low-/no-budget features. I wonder if "District 9" would have made the cut. (Variety)
