A lot of trailers premiered today. This one is for "Shutter Island," which will arrive in theaters any minute now. What, you want a date? February 19. It's Martin Scorsese's follow-up to his Oscar-winning work on "The Departed." And you've got Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo starring. Can't wait. See for yourself.
While we're not likely to see James Bond and Jason Bourne throw down against each other on the big screen anytime soon, we're getting something that's kind of close — a collaboration between "Bond" director and "Bourne" author in "The Chancellor Manuscript."
According to Variety, "Quantum of Solace" director Marc Forster is attached to direct "The Chancellor Manuscript," based on the novel by the late "Bourne" mastermind Robert Ludlum, with Leonardo DiCaprio attached to star. Peter O'Brien will write the script based on Ludlum's political thriller. Read more...
FROM MTV.COM: Robotic body suits, evil corporations, do-not-mess-with-me female sidekicks — these are just some of the recurring motifs in the films of James Cameron, present from 1984's "Terminator" up through current box-office and awards-season pet "Avatar."
But it's not just these whiz-bang action-flick factors that connect "Avatar" to the director's earlier work. The forbidden love story between ex-Marine Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and silky blue alien Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) calls to mind another set of star-crossed paramours: Jack and Rose from "Titanic," otherwise known as Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Both couples come from radically different cultures that are contemptuous of their relationship and are forced to choose sides between the competing communities. (Earlier this week, we explored whether Worthington and Saldana will follow DiCaprio's and Winslet's post-Cameron career paths.)

FROM MTV.COM: At first glance, the pair would seem to be miles apart. Leonardo DiCaprio is arguably the biggest movie star in the world, a three-time Oscar nominee in the prime of his career, a fiercely private all-American actor whose name can get any script the green light. Sam Worthington is an endearingly outspoken British/Australian veteran roughly the same age, positioned as "the next big thing" for some time and only now breaking through with a series of high-profile flicks.
To some, however, history may be repeating itself. A little more than a decade after DiCaprio became a household name with "Titanic," a billion dollars' worth of moviegoers have now seen Worthington's face in "Avatar." With that in mind, here are three reasons why King of the World James Cameron might be once again playing kingmaker — and three others why Sam will never reach Leo's heights:

There's a new trailer up online for "Inception." Just one catch though: it's in French. Given how little we've seen of Chris Nolan's summer 2010 sci-fi adventure starring Leonardo DiCaprio, I'll take what I can get. It's not like anyone's been forthcoming about the plot. The visuals in this new trailer are damn cool however. Check it out, courtesy of MakingOf.
Sadly, the trailer has been pulled. We'll see it again soon I'm sure, and in English.
James Cameron is no stranger to creating new forms of menacing cinematic creatures, though he may have finally topped himself in "Avatar" with the Na'vi.
There is certainly no shortage of dangerous flora and fauna that exists on the mysterious world of Pandora, but it's the Na'vi that pose the biggest threat thanks to their intelligence, speed, size and several other factors. It also doesn't help that human marines can link their brains up with Avatar versions of the alien race, adding a whole new skill set to a certain breed of Na'vi warrior.
Still, it's hard to say whether or not the Na'vi could hold their own against some of Cameron's other creations. Since we aren't likely to ever witness these showdowns, let's settle for the next best thing — hypothetical cage matches! Read more...
Norse history is going to hit in a big way in 2011. First and foremost, there's "Thor," based on the Marvel comic inspired by Norse mythology. And if Wikipedia is correct (unlikely), there's a chance of a long-ago-rumored live-action "Hagar the Horrible" movie set for release that year. Finally, a drama about Vikings from director Mel Gibson and producer Graham King ("The Departed") is set to begin shooting next fall, meaning it will probably be in theaters at some time the following year.
According to Variety, Viking history enthusiast Leonardo DiCaprio will star in the untitled film, which is currently being scripted by William Monahan (both of whom also had a hand in "The Departed"). The plot has not been revealed, but we can presume this will be a bloody action epic, similar to Gibson's "Braveheart." Perhaps there will also be some sort of focus on the Christianization of Scandinavia during the Viking Age, given Gibson's past success with "The Passion of the Christ." Read more...
Christopher Nolan's true genius might not be in making kickass films but in getting his stars to stay amazingly silent about them. How else to explain the virtual lockdown on any plot-related details from the cast of "Inception," Nolan's Leonardo DiCaprio-starring thriller out next summer that co-star Marion Cotillard helpfully described as "about the mind."
Well that clears everything up! But recently Tom Hardy gave a call to MTV News' Josh Horowitz from the "Inception" set and did in fact kick some details about the production. Read more...
It's been almost a week since Ridley Scott was in the trades. Did you miss seeing his name attached to another potential directorial gig? Well, this latest Scott news doesn't concern a new project. He has long talked about doing a movie about the Gucci family, which would presumably climax with the murder of former fashion mogul Maurizio Gucci, who was gunned down in 1995 by a hitman hired by his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani. Now, according to Variety, Angelina Jolie has been offered the part of Reggiani.
Despite having more anticipated projects, like the "Alien" prequel (which we'd love to see Jolie star in), and more marketable ideas, like the "Monopoly" board game adaptation, on his plate, Scott is still actively developing "Gucci." The film is reportedly a priority for Fox 2000, which is in the process of hiring someone to rewrite the script. The story will span three decades, focusing not just on Maurizio Gucci's death but on his family's fashion empire in general. Read more...
Why don't you take a look at the teaser first. We'll discuss afterwards. Here are the important points, the ones that'll make you click play: "Inception" is director Chris Nolan's follow-up to "The Dark Knight." He also directed "Memento" and "The Prestige." "Inception" stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy, Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Why haven't you clicked play yet?
I've got to say, I get a very "Matrix" vibe off of this trailer. I mean that in a good way; "Inception" doesn't look like "The Matrix," it just makes me recall the initial sense of wonderment I felt at seeing the first teaser. Read more...
