Worst Movies of 2010

Every year has its share of great movies (check out our top 10 films of the year here and vote for your fave here) and not-so-great movies... and 2010 was no exception. There were the sure-fire winners that totally failed with critics, like "The Tourist" and the reboot of "A Nightmare on Elm Street," and there were the films that never had a chance, like "Case 39" and "Furry Vengeance"... as well as, apparently, anything with Katherine Heigl and/or Josh Duhamel.

It's kind of mean to kick these flicks while they're down, so we decided to go to an outside source for some hard data. In other words, we checked out RottenTomatoes to see which flicks were the 25 lowest rated of 2010. Then we made a convenient little poll out of the 25 films to see which one you decide is the worst. Hit the jump to vote in the poll, and let us know in the comments or on Twitter which films you thought were the bottom of the barrel in 2010 (and feel free to yell at me if you disagree)!

DESC1. "Avatar" ($36 million)
2. "Legion" ($18.2 million)
3. "The Book of Eli" ($17 million)
4. "Tooth Fairy" ($14.5 million)
5. "The Lovely Bones" ($8.8 million)

James Cameron's "Avatar" easily won its sixth straight weekend at the box office, but the film's victory over its current theatrical competitors is hardly the greatest cause for celebration — that distinction belongs to the Na'vi people's victory over Gotham City's personal superhero, as "Avatar" has officially surpassed Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" as the second highest grossing film of all time at the domestic box office. DESC1. "Avatar" ($9.1 million)
2. "Legion" ($6.7 million)
3. "The Book of Eli" ($4.9 million)
4. "Tooth Fairy" ($3.5 million)
5. "The Lovely Bones" ($2.6 million)

With six Friday performances under its belt, James Cameron's "Avatar" remains the top dog at the box office, once again pulling out a first place finish worth $9.1 million — and just like the late musician Wesley Willis, "Avatar" is now poised to whoop Batman's you know what. Read More...

The weekly box office results have started to take the shape of a gladiatorial arena. "Avatar" is the champion contender, facing off each week against a new crop of fresh-faced movies that have absolutely no chance of casting a shadow across the phenomenon it has become. Yet. Perhaps the new week will see things change. After all, "The Book of Eli" came closer than any movie released since James Cameron's sci-fi epic to scoring a weekend box office win; it was just $10 million short of "Avatar"'s $41 million.

Three contenders step up to face off against the Na'vi this week. The closest competitor is probably Sony's "Legion," in which Paul Bettany stars as a machine gun-toting fallen angel, humanity's last defense against the Almighty's planned apocalypse. It sounds delightfully loony. I unfortunately haven't been able to check it out yet, but it's my probable pick for the weekend. Read More...

Halo-- Wait... you mean an IESB rumor has been debunked?! I don't believe it. A weekend rumor that Steven Spielberg is interested in at the very least producing an adaptation of the hit video game "Halo" has been officially put to rest. Microsoft commented on the "news," stating that any "Halo" motion picture projects are officially on hold while the publisher concentrates on making games. I can't imagine why. Maybe it's the $60 price tag vs. the $10 movie ticket. (Kotaku)

-- Molly Ringwald wrote out a lengthy, heartfelt remembrance of her tragically fallen "Breakfast Club" and "Sixteen Candles" director, John Hughes. A lot has been said of Hughes in the past week, but Ringwald's reminiscence eclipses them all. (The New York Times) Read More...
