"Immortals" arrived in theaters this weekend and stole the box office's thunder, proving that fall season moviegoers were indeed craving some hard R-rated action. Of course, the comparisons to "300" couldn't have hurt Tarsem Singh's latest picture's box office performance. Over on Splash Page, we measured out the similarities and differences between "Immortals" and "300" and decided which one we like better. It was a close call, but there was a winner.

The result is a bit of a surprise, as many spectators identified the buzzworthy "We Need to Talk about Kevin" and "The Artist" as top contenders for the prize.

John C. ReillyWith the mystery of who will play "The Hunger Games" heroine Katniss Everdeen long over, the question of who will star as the important supporting characters still looms.

As Elizabeth Banks closes in on the over-the-top Effie Trinket, Hollywood Crush reports that Oscar-nominee John C. Reilly is in contention for the part of the boozy, but vital, "Hunger Games" ex-champ and mentor Haymitch Abernathy. Reilly, an inspired and more than well-suited choice for the role, would beat out the likes of other rumored Haymitch contenders such as Hugh Laurie.

Reports are circulating that Megan Fox has been ousted from the cast of "Transformers 3," with insiders telling Deadline that giving Shia LaBeouf's Sam Witwicky a "new love interest makes more sense for the story." Paramount has confirmed the news to GossipCop.

We could dissect the behind-the-scenes drama all day long, but a simple fact remains: Paramount needs a replacement. It's not an enviable task given how deeply Megan Fox's character Mikaela Banes was connected to the action movie's human story — indeed, Lorenzo di Bonaventura told MTV News just last month that reports of Fox leaving the film were "silly" — but the reality is, LaBeouf needs a new love interest… and we've got some ideas for who that could be.

Come play matchmaker with us after the jump as we propose some possible candidates to replace Megan Fox in the next "Transformers" film! Read More...

Weird things come out of Japan. This isn't a negative value judgment mind you, simply an observation. Weird things come out of Canada too (see also: curling), it's just a cultural difference sort of thing. Still, really weird things come out of Japan when viewed in the context of a Western mindset.

This might not be the strangest thing you see all week, but it's definitely surreal. "Spider-Man" star Kirsten Dunst does some wacky cosplay and dances through the streets of Akibahara in Japan, singing the classic '80s ditty from The Vapors, "Turning Japanese." Not strange enough for you? How about the fact that McG directed it? Yeah, I thought that'd do it.

FROM MTV.COM: Well before a rebooted "Spider-Man" hits theaters in 2012, we'll get a chance to meet a brand-new Peter Parker — some lucky actor plucked to replace Tobey Maguire now that the 34-year-old and director Sam Raimi have been jettisoned from the franchise. As MTV News plays its own game of Cast That Arachnid — Joseph Gordon-Levitt? Jesse Eisenberg? — we took a look back at the time when we first met Maguire in his Spidey world.

It was January 2001, and production on Sam Raimi's film was about to begin in Culver City, California. MTV was there to chat with the cast and the director at a moment when comic book movies were beginning to return to their fanboy roots after years of schlocky "Batman" and "Superman" flicks.

FROM MTV.COM: Monday's announcement that "Spider-Man 4" was as dead as the Green Goblin reportedly came as a shock not only to fans, but also to the series' stars, who were at least entertaining the possibility of returning. Few, however, have had as much riding on the sequel as Kirsten Dunst.

Undoubtedly the most divisive of the series' leads (whereas you'd have a hard time finding any Spidey fans who hate on Tobey Maguire or James Franco), it's been a long time since Dunst has had a hit. Aside from the little-seen "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People," Dunst's last non-Spidey films were the back-to-back-to-back duds "Elizabethtown," "Wimbledon" and "Marie Antoinette" nearly a half-decade ago.
