You don't have to look far to find some serious badasses at the movies this year, but in the end, there's only room for five of these fearsome foes to compete for the Biggest Badass Star at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards — and, of course, only one of them can walk away as the winner.
But who's going to take the prize? Will it be one of the more familiar comic book heroes? The dreamy dream thief? The secret teenage alien? The newest karate kid? Read on for a primer on all of these badass nominees, then cast your vote for Biggest Badass Star today!
Robert Downey Jr., "Iron Man 2"
Tony Stark is pretty much the epitome of badassery: he's a hard-drinking billionaire beloved by women everywhere, and he gets to enjoy his perpetual partying lifestyle while kicking bad guy butt inside the comfort of his technologically superior Iron Man armor. Doesn't get much more badass than that.

Many will enter, but only one match-up will walk away unscathed. That's right, it's MTV Movie Awards time, and it's not just any normal category we're talking about, either — it's time to zero in on the Best Fight of the year!
From an extraordinarily trained and deadly teenage girl kicking Mark Strong's ass to a clash of witchcraft and wizardry of epic proportions, there's no shortage of awesome fight scenes to choose from at this year's Movie Awards. Preview all of the Best Fight nominees below, and make sure to cast your vote today!
Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint vs. Death Eaters, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1"
Harry, Ron and Hermione pause to catch their breath in the midst of their search to find and destroy all of Lord Voldemort's soul-containing horcruxes, but their time-out from battle is all-too-brief when a pack of Death Eaters attack them in the middle of a coffee shop.

Are you top ten-ed out? Probably? But damn it, I didn't see a zillion movies this year (OK, around 150) to not earn the right to subject you to a list of my 10 favorites. Honestly this list is probably more for me than for you guys. As we head into the awards season (People's Choice is just days away, get your powder blue tux ready!), what better way to get into the right mindset of endless accolades than to bestow my own. So here we go folks... the top 10 films of 2010* according to me.
*List void on January 1st when I'll surely change my mind about a few of these.

The most memorable movie lines require three things: They must sound like something a real person (or at least the character uttering them) would, you know, actually say; they must be smarter, funnier and snappier than what a real person would actually say (this sounds like it would contradict the first point, but it doesn't); and they must have a great actor to give them a great delivery. It's a delicate balance, and one that takes both skill -- and a tiny bit of luck -- to achieve.
This year was packed with plenty of ear-pleasing, intensely quotable movie quotes, ranging from the highbrow ("The Social Network" and "True Grit") to the not-so-highbrow ("The Other Guys" and "Machete"). Some movies -- here's looking at you, "Social Network" -- were so full of amazing one-liners and witty exchanges that I could have made a top 10 list just drawing from them. But in the interest of fairness, I'll stick to one awesome line per movie. Below, take a look at my picks for the 10 best movie quotes of 2010, then hit the comments to share your own favorites! I've already revealed my picks for the top 10 movies of 2010. And I'm happy with all of my choices, though there were a few flicks I loved that barely missed making the final cut -- sorry, "Kick-Ass," "How to Train Your Dragon" and "127 Hours"! But that list represents the opinion of just one man (yours truly) -- and since everyone has an opinion, I want to hear from you, the loyal MTV Movies Blog readers, about your favorite films of the year.
To this end, I've created a poll that includes 34 of the year's biggest blockbusters and critical darlings. Some of the films have been raking in the awards ("The Social Network," "The King's Speech," "Black Swan," etc.), while others aren't exactly Best Picture-worthy but may have carved out a special place in your movie-loving heart regardless (I'm looking at you "Harry Potter" and "Twilight").
That's why this poll is specifically asking you to vote for your favorite film of the past 365 days (give or take). Pinpointing the best movies or the best anything can be a dicey proposition because putting that kind of label on something makes it sound very objective... when it is, in fact, our opinions are the definition of subjective. Critics and awards prognosticators can argue about the best until the cows come home, but no one can tell you that something isn't your favorite if you say it is.
So hit the jump to vote for your favorite film of 2010. And, if for some reason it isn't included in the poll, hit the comments to tell me why it should have been. Be sure to get your vote in by 2 p.m. on Dec. 30, and come back later that day to see the final results. Thanks, and happy holidays! Read more...

FROM SPLASH PAGE: Ever since "Kick-Ass" brought its fresh, violent, foul-language-laden take on the superhero movie to the big screen in April, everyone involved -- from director Matthew Vaughn to star Aaron Johnson to Mark Millar, the co-creator of the comic on which the film is based -- has talked up the sequel. Rumors have swirled that Millar was working on a script and that Vaughn had an eye to direct when he'd wrapped work on that other superhero flick he's spearheading, "X-Men: First Class." And IMDb has even gone so far as to list the movie, tentatively entitled "Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall," as "announced."
It is our sad duty to bring you the following news that certainly does not kick ass: Co-star Lyndsy Fonseca, who plays the titular hero's girlfriend, says that it could be quite some time before a sequel goes balls to he wall in theaters.
"It's going to be a while if it does happen," she told MTV News while promoting her TV series "Nikita" at New York Comic Con this weekend. "Everyone's kind of working on other things, and there needs to be more issues of the comic before there's material to do another movie. So wait and see." Read more...

Boxing, wrestling and the UFC aren't the only sports where you'll find people kicking the ever-loving tar out of each other. In fact, even in a game as mild-mannered as baseball, players can come to blows. Look no further than last night's heated altercation between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds during the first inning of their game, when Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips' venomous words towards the Cardinals escalated into a big — and stupid — seven minute brawl.
But fights have a tendency to escalate. What starts out as an intimate one-on-one display of dominance quickly evolves into an all-out brawl with several fists flying from all directions. Really, the Cards and Reds brawl could have escalated a whole lot worse — just check out some of these horribly escalated fictional fights for further proof! Read more...

1. "How To Train Your Dragon" ($15 million)
2. "The Back-Up Plan" ($12.3 million)
3. "Date Night" ($10.6 million)
4. "The Losers" ($9.6 million)
5. "Kick-Ass" ($9.5 million)
Last weekend, "How To Train Your Dragon" kicked ass and nearly took the box office crown from director Matthew Vaughn's "Kick-Ass." This weekend, "Dragon" followed through on its comeback potential by stealing first place away from both "The Back-Up Plan" and "The Losers." Read more...

Jennifer Lopez's return to the big screen is proving itself to be the buzz worthy movie event of the weekend as "The Back-Up Plan" won first place at the box office on Friday with an estimated total of $4.2 million — a victory that spells defeat for "The Losers," the Warner Bros. comic book movie that landed in fourth place. 1. "How To Train Your Dragon" ($20 million)
2. "Kick-Ass" ($19.8 million)
3. "Date Night" ($17.3 million)
4. "Death at a Funeral" ($17 million)
5. "Clash of the Titans" ($15.8 million)
There's no doubting that "Kick-Ass" is exactly that, but can a bunch of powerless masked crime-fighters stand a chance against some highly trained dragons? That's the question on everybody's mind as the debuting comic book movie slogs through some unexpectedly tough competition in the form of "How To Train Your Dragon," now in its fourth weekend in theaters.
