'Lost' Star Nestor Carbonell Would Love To Play Khan In The 'Star Trek' Sequel

Nestor Carbonell is most recognizable as Richard Alpert on "Lost" and as the mayor of Gotham City in "The Dark Knight," but if some fans get their way, he might add another role to his increasingly geeky resume — none other than the villainous Khan in a possible "Star Trek" sequel.

Previously, director J.J. Abrams said that he's open to the idea of recasting the classic "Star Trek" villain in an upcoming sequel, and Carbonell has had his name thrown around for the part by many of his own supporters and "Star Trek" fans alike. EXCLUSIVE: J.J. Abrams Talks About The Possibility Of Recasting Khan For 'Star Trek' Sequel

J.J. Abrams nailed the recasting of "Star Trek" icons James T. Kirk and Spock for his big screen reboot this past May. The question, "Who in the world could possibly replace William Shatner on the Enterprise flight deck?" was answered with the resounding cry, "Holy crap is Chris Pine good!"

With these casting achievements behind him, Abrams knows he's opened up some creative leeway in terms of replacing characters in the mythology. Could that lead to another go at the franchise's #1 villain, Khan? Zoe Saldana Talks 'Star Trek' And Sit-Ups At Comic-Con

You want to know when the next “Star Trek” will start shooting? Look out for paparazzi shots of co-star Zoe Saldana wearing some sweaty workout gear as she leaves the gym. Why? Because, as the woman who played alien linguistics expert Uhura explained to MTV’s Josh Horowitz at Comic-Con, when “Star Trek” ramps up, she’ll be forced to hit the weights again.

So has she renewed the gym membership yet? Saldana revealed that producers have indeed been in touch, making sure the actress is clearing out space on her 2010 calendar.
