FROM SPLASH PAGE: Several months ago, "X-Men: The Last Stand" director Brett Ratner told MTV News that there are few characters left in comic books for him to adapt—and while that may be true for the eventual "Youngblood" filmmaker, it's certainly not true for Kevin Smith.

Smith, who recently made a colorful appeal for Jon Hamm to star as both Superman and Batman, declared that there is one comic book character that has yet to be tapped, one franchise that remains to be treated with the respect and dignity it deserves on the big screen—and one hero that wears a snug-fitting diaper.

"I think there's a brilliant, revisionist take to be done on 'Hot Stuff, the Little Devil,'" Smith told MTV News.

One of the Kevin Smith projects that's been percolating for awhile is a horror movie he's been referring to as "Red State." It would be a considerable change of pace for the filmmaker, who is known best for his sharp dialogue and geek-pleasing cultural references. How big a change, you ask? "The dream would be to have people watch the movie and flat out not believe that I made it," he told MTV in an interview last year. With Halloween coming up, Splash Page editor Rick Marshall couldn't help but ask Smith for an update on the progress of the project in a recent interview, which you can check out in the video below.

"'Red State' has been tough to find f---ing money for," he said, in his typically profane manner. "Finding cash has been difficult. It's not a commercial movie by any stretch of the imagination." This isn't to say that big money is necessarily required to make "Red State" happen. In fact, some of the obstacles Smith's encountered have been internal. Read more...

Accomplished screenwriter, director, actor and yes, author Kevin Smith already has one New York Times best-selling book behind him with 2007's "My Boring-Ass Life," and now he could have another with "Shootin' The Sh*t With Kevin Smith: The Best Of SModcast." On shelves now, "Shootin' The Sh*t" is a compilation of transcripts from Smith's wildly popular weekly podcast series alongside his friend and frequent collaborator, film producer Scott Mosier.

Filled with candid and frequently raunchy conversations about life, society, filmmaking and just about anything else that comes to mind for the pair (who are occasionally joined by Smith's wife and various members of his social professional circle), "Shootin' The Sh*t" collects more than 50 transcripts from the pair's SModcast sessions. However, as Smith told MTV News during a recent visit, there are some topics he's learned to avoid—especially when his wife's around.

"There was one time we were recording a SModcast. It was her and I," Smith said. "I talk about sex all the time anyway, but I'm going to talk about it with her because it's the one chick where I can be like, 'When we f--k..." So it can be a real personal kind of thing." Read more...

Kevin Smith is a funny guy. He'd probably use a more... "colorful" word than "guy," one starting with 'mother' and ending with a term I won't repeat here (it starts with 'f'), but that's all part of his charm. He's a talented filmmaker to be sure -- just look at modern classics like "Clerks" and "Dogma" -- but he's also a fantastically well-spoken and engaging individual.

That's why you should be excited about Titan Books' "Shootin' the S--t With Kevin Smith: The Best of SModcast," which hits store shelves on September 22. As in tomorrow. It's filled transcribed conversations between Smith and his View Askew partner and longtime collaborator Scott Mosier. Hit the jump for a brief excerpt of the hilarity. And stay tuned for MTV.com next week, as Smith will be here in the office to answer some questions! Read more...

Warwick Davis has only gotten cooler in my eyes since I started following his Twitter account. The "Harry Potter" and "Willow" star apparently set up a laser tag match this week with John Williams' "Star Wars" score playing in the background, which sounds like quite the celebration of sci-fi geekdom.

It was also a relief this morning to read that I wasn't the only one seeing little bird-shaped, multicolor avatars everywhere when I logged in to Twitter. Diablo Cody and Richard Kelly experienced the same thing with reactions similar to my own. If you know what I'm talking about, or want to find out, click on down below and read their posts, along with Peter Facinelli's exhausting end-of-day tweet from the "Eclipse" set and a Selena Gomez ALMA Award pic for all you "Wizard of Waverly Place" fans. They're in the Twitter-Wood report for September 18, 2009. Read more...

Kevin Smith completed his Twitter marathon today, and there were fellow Twitter-Wood feed faces like Richard Kelly and Brian Posehn there to meet him at the finish line. The Twitter-Wood report likewise congratulates him on his 24-hour Q&A session and wishes him sweet dreams while he re-adjusts to a normal sleep cycle again.

Emmy Rossum seems to be the new "Full House" star Twitter-Wood reports over the last week. You can probably chalk that up to my affinity for Counting Crows. I slipped in two more tweets on her performance with them in Central Park today -- this time with video links. Honestly, I could have made a complete report just between her and Kevin Smith today, but I did throw in Shannon Elizabeth's birthday pic, a Hollywood confession and a Twitter Pic of the Day featuring human size extremes. Enjoy! Read more...

Editor's note: Mr. Warmoth wrote this up yesterday, but tech issues prevented me from running it. So please enjoy this post-Labor Day Twitter-Wood morning edition.

Happy Labor Day, everyone. Posts in the Twitter-Wood feed certainly didn't rest for the holiday -- particularly those of Kevin Smith, who is currently engaged in a 24-hour tweet-a-thon of questions and answers with his followers. I've included a few highlights but highly recommend throwing your own queries at him before he logs off.

In other news, the feed found a new feed this weekend! We proudly welcome the yet-to-become-Verfied account of Danny DeVito, whose profile pic alone has earned him a top slot on the list and Twitter Pic of the Day laurels. You can check it out in the link below alongside Smith's answers and Labor Day activities involving Peter Facinelli, Russell Brand and Neil Gaiman. Monday being Labor Day, many of us hard-working folk plan to spend the day off by liberally applying suntan lotion to our backsides and resting beneath the sun. But Kevin Smith won't stand for that -- no, he has a devious plot to keep us inside all day long.

According to a press release, Smith is promising to conduct a 24-hour online Q&A via Twitter beginning on Labor Day morning. The filmmaker, currently working on the to-be-renamed "A Couple of Dicks," will hold the "Tweet-A-Thon" in part to promote "Shootin' the Sh-- with Kevin Smith," his upcoming book. Read more...

Could Hollywood really be making a movie that will be marketed on billboards and marquees nationwide as “A Couple of Dicks”? The answer is yes… and, well… no.

“That was everyone’s intention, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen,” Adam Brody told MTV recently, echoing Kevin Smith’s statements that he may have to change the name of his now-wrapped Bruce Willis-Tracy Morgan buddy cop comedy. “We were talking about [changing the name]; you can’t really advertise that before 9[pm on TV] if that’s the case, so that really hampers [the studio].” Read more...

Brett Ratner may not be making that "Guitar Hero" movie that he's dreamed about, but he is getting the chance to help launch the new game with a commercial. And he's excited -- like tweeting about it excited.

Meanwhile in Los Angeles, those wildfires are still burning, and the faces of the Twitter-Wood feed are still watching the smoke fly. Richard Kelly and Rose McGowan caught a glimpse of the flames, while Kevin Smith linked to what the little actress from "Jersey Girl" is up to these days, and Miranda Cosgrove locked herself out of her home. Find out what happened and see the proudest display of nerd-pride on the Internet today in the Twitter-Wood report for September 1, 2009. Read more...
