Kathryn Bigelow's follow-up to her historic Oscar win for "The Hurt Locker," an untitled film about Osama Bin Laden, naturally drew a lot of attention as soon as it was announced.

But last week, a deluge of casting news drove anticipation through the roof with the confirmation that both Chris Pratt and Joel Edgerton had joined the project and that Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong and Edgar Ramirez were in talks.

MTV News' Josh Horowitz spoke with Pratt and Chastain on the red carpet for the Critics' Choice Awards about working with Bigelow and the work that goes into preparing for a project like this.

Joel Edgerton

It seems as though nothing can touch Sony Pictures and Annapurna Pictures' faith in Kathryn Bigelow's upcoming untitled Osama Bin Laden movie, and that confidence is being passed on to the talent circling the project. Some big names are moving in to join up with Bigelow in her follow-up to Oscar-winner "The Hurt Locker," and the previously rumored Joel Edgerton and Chris Pratt have finally officially signed on board. Sounds like a vote of confidence to all the skeptics if we've ever heard one.

Variety has the news about Edgerton, who joins previously-announced Jason Clarke in the flick. But Deadline has learned that three other actors are circling the Bin Laden movie as well. Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong and Edgar Ramirez are all "ready to get the mission underway" according to Deadline. The news site also lists Pratt as an official cast member.

Joel EdgertonThe question surrounding Kathryn Bigelow's next film, titled "Kill Bin Laden," is no longer "Will they still make it?" Rather, it's a question of who will star in it, and Joel Edgerton has helped to answer that.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Edgerton has signed on for the film, which chronicles a failed mission to kill the terrorist leader in 2001. In it, he'll reportedly play a special operative that's part of an ensemble of male commandos. But, it's not the only high-profile project the actor's name is attached to.

The LA Times also writes that Edgerton is on the short-list of actors considered for "The Hunger Games." (Could he be Haymitch? President Snow?) And while Edgerton is widely in demand, the star isn't saying yes to everything that comes his way. The article also notes that he allegedly turned down the chance to play opposite Kristen Stewart in "Snow White and the Huntsman."

Check out the rest of Friday's biggest casting news in Hollywood, including the all-star cast to bring "Lincoln" to the masses.

Saoirse RonanIf one person's going to represent the dwindling human race in the face of an alien invasion, we could do far worse than "Hanna."

Our friends at Hollywood Crush report that Saoirse Ronan, who took on the title role in this year's awesome action flick "Hanna," is set to star in "The Host," based on a novel from "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer. Ronan would play Melanie Ryder, one of the last survivors of the invading Souls, an alien species that can possess human bodies. Melanie comes under the possession of Wanderer, but the strong-willed teenager refuses to surrender her consciousness and the two form a bond in the process.

There's plenty more news out there today beyond Ronan's latest role. After the jump, we've got an update on "Kill Bin Laden" and a follow-up to our report on Christoph Waltz's status in Quentin Tarantino's new movie.

Tom HanksTom Hanks is joining the ranks ofRobert Downey Jr., Tom Hardy and Johnny Depp as one of the busiest men in Hollywood right now. He's currently finishing up work on "Larry Crowne," and today we have word that he is confirmed for Kathryn Bigelow's "Triple Frontier" (or "Sleeping Dogs," depending on who you ask) and is also likely to star opposite Halle Berry and Natalie Portman in the Wachowskis' "Cloud Atlas."

The first news isn't much of a shock, considering Hanks has been loosely attached to "Triple Frontier" for some time now. What is surprising is that apparently none of the other major roles in "Frontier" have yet been cast, despite reports that Depp was also attached. The film's producer, Charles Roven, confirmed as much to ComingSoon.net: "Tom Hanks is starring in the film and we're still looking to cast the other roles. We're hoping to start shooting the movie sometime in mid-March." Read More...

What's good enough for Tom Hanks is evidently good enough for Johnny Depp, as the "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" star has joined the list of prospective lead actors for Kathryn Bigelow's "Hurt Locker" follow-up "Sleeping Dogs." The film was first publicly referred to as "Triple Frontier," but "Sleeping Dogs" seems to be the standard name now. Whatever it's called, Bigelow's aiming high in terms of star power.

The film about organized crime along the borders of Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil has five big roles and two really big roles, one of which Depp could see himself playing, according to sources speaking to Deadline. As anyone who's seen Depp's current list of rumored and pre-production projects knows, however, he has a thick stack of work on his schedule that would require time travel and cloning to complete. He's reportedly open to finding a way to make Bigelow's film work, but it doesn't sound like it's going to be easy. Read More...

Tom Hanks and Kathryn Bigelow have Oscar power flowing through their veins, and they're reportedly in talks to put it together in the director's "Hurt Locker" follow-up "Sleeping Dogs" (formerly titled "Triple Frontier") Hanks is said to be undecided about one of the five lead roles for the film centered around organized crime in the border zone shared by Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. Hanks might have to share a few headlines, but an alliance between these two would have to catch the Academy's attention before the film even hits theaters.

No one has made Hanks an offer yet, according to inside sources speaking to Deadline, but things are moving fast, as filming is scheduled to start sometime next year.

"The Hurt Locker" is still fresh in a lot of minds, yet it's been 15 years since Hanks took home a that little gold guy named Oscar for his performance in "Forrest Gump." He may be totally content to let it share a mantel with its twin from "Philadelphia," but if he's considering another run to remind everyone about why those awards are there, "Sleeping Dogs" sounds like it could be an appropriate vehicle. Kathryn BigelowKathryn Bigelow made history when she won the Academy Award for Best Director for "The Hurt Locker," as until that moment, not a single female filmmaker had ever received an Oscar in that category. While Bigelow absolutely deserves the Oscar, it's hard not to scratch your head and wonder — what took so long?

There is no shortage of incredibly talented female directors working both in and outside of Hollywood, so the fact that it took 82 Academy Award ceremonies for a woman to win Best Director is more than a little bit puzzling.

After the jump, we've listed five female filmmakers that absolutely deserved an Oscar for their work. Read More...
