One of the reasons why I love our Movies Blog is because it allows us to post news fast. Another reason is because every now and then we’ll run a story on a movie, and its fans will go crazy with comments, making reporters like myself realize that you guys want us to get you more information.

With that in mind, when I recently caught up with the very cool, very funny Justin Long, a little voice in the back of my head said: “Chipmunks! There were 354 comments on the last article about the ‘Chipmunks’ sequel!” And so, I made sure when we were done discussing his Comic-Con-buzz-building flick “Drag Me to Hell” that I attempted the difficult transition from a hardcore horror flick to whether we’d ever see the sequel to a family-friendly movie detailing three rodents who sing about hula hoops. 'Alvin & The Chipmunks'Believe it or not, "Alvin & the Chipmunks" is about to cross the $200 million box-office mark, could become the most successful family film released in 2007, and is already the highest-grossing talking animal/live-action cartoon adaptation ever. All this can only mean one thing: Chipettes.

"There has been a lot of talk about it," revealed Janice Karman, one of the film's producers. "A lot of people have been asking about the little girls." Read more...

Alvin and the Chipmunks'Ever since my all-time favorite action film, "Die Hard," burst onto the scene in 1988, it has influenced dozens of other movies. Everything from "Under Siege" to "Speed" to "The Rock" has been cloned from the Bruce Willis classic - as have three additional adventures starring John McClane. But you might be surprised when you hear the latest film to tip its cap towards Bruno's iconic character.

"Alvin and the Chipmunks"???

"Yeah," confirmed Justin Long, whose character Alvin screams "Yippee-ki-yay, mamasita!" in a chase scene while dodging between villainous security guards. "[20th Century Fox] wanted it. It was the same studio. They thought it would be hilarious to do a little 'Die Hard' reference." Read more...

When Justin Long, Ryan Reynolds, Anna Faris and Dane Cook came to Louisiana in early 2004 to shoot the low-budget comedy "Waiting...", each was a long way from superstardom. Movies like "Good Luck Chuck," "Just Friends," and "Live Free or Die Hard" were mere glints in screenwriters' eyes, and Long's sole connection with Mac was that he'd occasionally eat a Big one.

Now, nearly five years later, Long has confirmed to MTV News that he is indeed returning to his Shenaniganz roots. Read more...

Steve ZahnWhile talking to Steve Zahn about his role as a tortured P.O.W. in the harrowing "Rescue Dawn," the last thing we expected was a good laugh, but we couldn't help ourselves when the veteran supporting actor told us how he got his job on the comedy "Strange Wilderness," a movie he described as "fun and dumb and as wrong as 'Saving Silverman.'"

"I was in Vietnam [for 'Rescue Dawn'], and I went on this kayaking thing for 'Men's Journal.' I got back to Hanoi and got this message [asking if I would do the movie], and they wanted to know in a few hours if I could do it," Zahn reported, nearly giggling himself to death as he remembered the bizarre circumstances. "So I'm in Hanoi just out of a shower in my underwear reading this script, laughing my ass off, trying to figure out if it was funny because I was in Hanoi in my underwear or if it's really funny." Alan Rickman, Timothy Olyphant, William Sadler...look, you guys are great. Love the mugging. Dig the accents. But let's face it, you're not what the "Die Hard" series needs. You're not real-life badasses (I've seen you in "Truly Madly Deeply," Mr. Rickman. Tisk, tisk).

No, Justin Long and I agree, what the "Die Hard" series needs most moving forward is a real-life convict, someone hard, someone who's actually been to jail, someone who can be a real foil for John McClane.

"Paris Hilton!" Long enthused. Wait, what? "I would like to see Paris Hilton be the bad guy [in "Die Hard 5”]," Long joked with MTV News. "That would be fun. Let her play a diabolical, super-scientist or something like that." The hotel heiress even bears a remarkable resemblance to a former "Die Hard" baddie, Long pointed out. "Let's face it, she is sort of like the female Jeremy Irons," he said, laughing.

Who would you like to see match wits with John McClane? Chime in below.

The long, tiring days of shooting a movie tend to lead to an assortment of pranks and gags. "Live Free or Die Hard" was no different, as Justin Long revealed to MTV News. In the video clip below, watch Long describe an "incident" he manufactured while filming a car-ride sequence with co-star Bruce Willis. Then, read/watch our full interview with Long right here.

Kevin Smith so loves working with the same group of actors, he once joked that had he directed "Jaws," he'd "cast Ben Affleck as the shark." But according to the director, familiar faces won't be found in Smith's upcoming "Red State," a horror movie about religious fundamentalism.

"'Red State' I would like to do with completely unknown people. I think it would be tough to settle into a horror movie if you're like, 'Hey! That's the Snootchie-Bootchies guy,'" Smith deadpanned.

So no Jason Mewes, no Jason Lee, and no Jeff Anderson. But what about Bruce Willis, who Smith met while filming a cameo on "Live Free or Die Hard"? "Bruce Willis would never do one of my flicks," Smith laughed. "In a million years he wouldn't. Dude would be like, 'No way, I don't want to put the kibosh on my career, man. I hitch my wagon to your star, forget it, we're plummeting,' Justin Long though...maybe one day. If he's feeling charitable."

Originally slated to be his next project, "Red State" may wind up being pushed back so Smith can next film "Zack and Miri Make a Porno," (A page of which was recently posted by "Entertainment Weekly"). Read more...

MTV's "Inside the Action" takes you inside the hottest action flicks by re-creating their most explosive stunts. I've been going on MTV shoots for 8 years now (wow, that freaks me out), but this "Inside the Action" was certainly unusual. I mean, I'd never blown up a car before. Read more...
