Twitter-Wood was on pins and needles waiting for the Chilean miners to get rescued yesterday (well, Steve Martin and Simon Pegg tried to lighten the mood). Today, the overall mood is significantly cheerier, thanks to a successful extraction operation. Kal Penn and Patton Oswalt discussed their reactions, while some other faces in our feed checked out "Red" and Seth Green hung out with some sailors.
Green's shot with them was good enough to make Twitter Pic of the Day. You can find it after the jump along with Ice-T's multiplayer review of "Medal of Honor" and Juliette Lewis' view of the Arcade Fire concert in Los Angeles.

People across America experienced Justin Bieber in a variety of ways last night, whether it was at his concert in New York City or watching him dance off with Shaquille O'Neal on "Shaq Vs." Snoop Dogg captured his night in a TwitPic, and producer of "The Social Network" Dana Brunetti chose to express himself through a simple Internet-friendly abbreviation.
In the meantime, news events have been trending in Twitter-Wood this afternoon as the hostage situation at the Discovery Channel building in Maryland captured a lot of attention. Most of the reactions have just been out of shock after a man believed to be named James Lee entered and began making demands. Steve Jobs' announcements at the Apple press event today stirred up some interest as well, and you can find one of those from "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" creator Bryan Lee O'Malley after the jump.

The Xbox 360's motion control system previously known as Project Natal received its proper name "Kinect" at E3 on Sunday night. Both James Gunn and Felicia Day were on the front lines getting a look at Microsoft's presentation there and tweeted their reactions.
Back in movie land, "Eclipse" is the big presetation that Twilight followers are paying attention to right now. The increase in the cast's tweeting activity over the last week seems to indicate that they know they're being watched. Peter Facinelli and director David Slade were even kind enough to share some pictures from their travels. You can have a look at those after the jump. There, you'll also find out who's been hanging out with Coheed and Cambria and see who wore a triceratops dress to the "Toy Story 3" premiere.
It's all documented in Twitter-Wood for June 14, 2010. Read more...

"The Hangover" director Todd Phillips has another movie coming out very soon. "Due Date" stars Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis as a mismatched pair of road trippers. Along the way they meet up with a pot dealer, played by Juliette Lewis. In the video below, Lewis describes her cameo and speaks a little to the difficulty of working on the set with someone like Galifianakis.

Twitter-Wood reaches over to the U.K. as well as well as the U.S., and Nick Frost was none too thrilled with the airspace closures there that were caused there by the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland today. As it turns out, Neil Gaiman was personally affected as well.
Elsewhere on Twitter, it was big day for pictures. Juliette Lewis posted a shot from a Them Crooked Vultures concert she attended, Michael Chiklis' dog tried to drive a car, and Tom Felton shared a shot of himself supporting the Robin Hood Tax. Have a look at them all after the jump where you will also find out who got to check out a Project Natal demo for the Xbox 360 and where Miranda Cosgrove showed up for a photo shoot. It's all in Twitter-Wood for April 15th, 2010. Read more...

Please excuse the delay in running this week's Box Office Poll. I experienced some technical difficulties when working from home yesterday, so I put this post off for today. What a week we're in for movies. I don't know about y'all, but every wide release that opens is on my list as well as a fair few of the limited releases. So let's get to it.
Tough to say what the big one for the week is going to be. I think the top contender -- though not necessarily by a wide margin -- is "Zombieland," a comedy-horror flick starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin. As a zombie apocalypse sweeps across the world, the foursome set out on a cross-country trip to... well I'm not entirely sure. They kill lots of zombies though. Read more...

Whatever disagreement it was that sent Ellen Page and Juliette Lewis into a food-fueled cat fight in yesterday's "Whip It" clip, they clearly resolve it by the time the scene in the clip below arrives. Check out Lewis, director/star Drew Barrymore and the rest of the team get psyched up as they prepare for their first roller derby match with their newest addition: Page. "Whip It," an adaptation of Shauna Cross's novel "Derby Girl," hits theaters on October 2.

"Whip It" may feature a mostly female cast, but it is does not fall into the traditional definition of a "chick flick." For her directorial debut, star Drew Barrymore snatched up a script from "Derby Girl" author and professional roller derby athlete Shauna Cross. The story follows a former beauty queen (Ellen Page) who, in an act of rebellion, leaves her properly coiffed world behind for the rough and tumble action of a professional roller derby league.
In the clip below, Page's Bliss Cavendar, still a newcomer, is goaded by teammate Dinah Might (Juliette Lewis) with harsh words and flung food. The situation escalates and messy shenanigans ensue. Enjoy the rumble.

Chicks on roller skates. That's how I've chosen to sell "Whip It" to you male readers. Chicks. On. Roller skates. They're kickass ladies too, the lot of them. Ellen Page, Kristen Wiig, Drew Barrymore, Juliette Lewis, Zoe Bell, Ari Graynor, Alia Shawkat... like I said, kickass ladies. But then, that's what happens when you make a movie about an all-girl roller derby team.
I'm not entirely clear on the plot, but I do know a little something about the setup. Page stars as Bliss, a young Texan who rebels by joining a roller derby league after she grows tired of her mother (Marcia Guy Harden) pushing her to participate in beauty pageants. The script comes from Shauna Cross, adapted from her book "Derby Girl," and the movie is directed by Drew Barrymore, her feature debut. Hit the jump for the full poster. Read more...

Academy Award-nominated actress Juliette Lewis is joining Mark Ruffalo’s “Sympathy For Delicious,” which is finally going to start lensing in December, the celebrated “What Doesn’t Kill You” actor told MTV News.
Ruffalo’s announcement comes four months after James Franco also broke the news to MTV of his involvement in the project but some four years after Ruffalo first began talking about the movie, an upside down hagiography at least somewhat based on one of Ruffalo’s close friends, paraplegic Chris Thornton.
“It’s a kind of social satire about a guy in a wheelchair who gets the gift to heal but he can’t heal himself so he takes it to start heal-a-palooza and prostitutes it for sex, drugs, rock and roll, and fame,” Ruffalo laughed of the movie’s plot, which in combination with my chat with Franco, proves it’s not a story that can be summed up in 30 seconds or less.
