Tom Cruise

After mulling over the project for many months, Tom Cruise has at last committed to Warner Bros' upcoming film "All You Need Is Kill."

Deadline has the news that Cruise has joined the project, which is being directed by "Jumper" helmer Doug Liman. He'll likely start shooting the movie after he wraps Joseph Kosinski's "Oblivion," which he is set to start after he finishes the current shoot on "Rock of Ages." "All You Need Is Kill" follows a new army recruit who gets killed during a battle against an alien species, and is reborn every day to suffer the same fate. When he starts realizing that he is becoming a better soldier as each day passes, he figures out that maybe he can do something to alter the course of the battle.

Ryan MurphyIf you've been wondering why more songs from "Annie" haven't been featured over the past two seasons of "Glee," we might have your answer.

You'll remember last month when we reported that Will Smith is rebooting "Annie" as a starring vehicle for his daughter Willow Smith, and now Deadline has a new scoop on the project. According to them, "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy is being courted to helm the film.

Roberts and TheronBy Sterling Wong

Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all? As previously reported on this blog, audiences can look forward to competing adaptations of the classic fairytale Snow White.

There’s "Snow White and the Huntsmen," with Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen, and also "The Brothers Grimm: Snow White," where Deadline pretty much confirms that Julia Roberts will inhabit the same role. Looks like we’ve got a face-off between two of Hollywood’s premiere A-list actresses!

We thought we’d place the two stars side by side to see who is a better fit for the requirements of the role and who will emerge as the true Evil Queen. May the best woman win!

Julia RobertsIt wouldn't be a day of the week without an update on one of Hollywood's many "Snow White" adaptations, and today, we're just so lucky to have two news items to report. Not only is Kristen Stewart negotiating for the lead role in "Snow White and the Huntsman," another pretty woman is angling to get in on the fairy tale action.

New York Magazine has the scoop that Julia Roberts is looking into that mirror on the wall and seeing a plum role in "The Brothers Grimm: Snow White" as a result. Although she's not officially locked in for the project, negotiations are finally taking place months after director Tarsem Singh first had his eye on Roberts for the role of the Evil Queen.

Sandra Bullock and Julia RobertsIn light of her recent Best Actress victory at the Academy Awards, "The Blind Side" leading lady Sandra Bullock is understandably enjoying some time in the spotlight. With more than a few projects already lined up, Bullock's future is pretty well covered. The road that led to the Oscars, however, is somewhat more mystifying, but it sure has a lot in common with Julia Roberts' own career.

That's not to suggest that Roberts is responsible for Bullock's award-winning performance — though the "Pretty Woman" star was reportedly the first choice to play Leigh Anne Tuohy in "The Blind Side," a role that Roberts ultimately declined. But looking past that irony, Roberts' career path is actually quite similar to Bullock's in many ways. Read More...

If you're a movie fan, it's statistically impossible for you to feel anything but love for Tom Hanks. The guy started in comedy -- straight, raw comedy, with boobs and drugs and even the occasional donkey show -- but he matured quickly, giving us some of the most memorable performances of the past 30 years. In "Big," in "Forrest Gump," in "Saving Private Ryan," in "Philadelphia," in "Catch Me If You Can"... it goes on like this.

These days, Hanks tends to stay behind the camera, mostly as a producer, bringing us HBO hits like "From the Earth to the Moon," "Band of Brothers" and its soon-to-release follow-up, "Pacific." He also stars in those those Bible-pegged mystery movies. Back in 1996 he tried his hand at feature writing/directing, bringing us a Beatles-like band's fictional biopic in "That Thing You Do." It's a fun diversion; nothing on the level of Hanks' finest performances, but a solidly entertaining movie. Now, more than a decade later, he's taking a second crack at the writer/director game with "Larry Crowne." Read More...

Javier BardemI know a lot of women who would love to eat, pray and love with Javier Bardem... and just about as many who would run away from him screaming thanks to his terrifying turn in "No Country for Old Men." But surely, if there's any actor who can convince women he doesn't wield a captive bolt gun, it's the Oscar-winning Bardem. He'll get his chance with the big screen adaptation of novelist Elizabeth Gilbert's globe-trotting memoir, "Eat, Pray, Love." Variety reports that he has joined star Julia Roberts in the self-discovery drama.

Roberts will play Gilbert, who decided that the cure for her depression -- fed by a recent divorce and rebound romance -- was to travel around Italy, Indonesia and India. "Eat" was the result of her global exploration and inner soul-searching... and naturally, she found a little real life romance too. That's where Bardem comes in, as a fellow named Felipe who Gilbert meets and falls in love with on the final stage of her journey. Also along for the ride is Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins, who will play a Texan that Gilbert meets and befriends while hanging out at an Indian ashram. Read More...

The red carpet the other night for the Tom Hanks was a glitzy one indeed. No big surprise, right? The man is so likable he makes Nelson Mandela look like an ass. So yes, the list of big name talent walking the carpet was long but for me two names stood out: Charlize Theron and Julia Roberts. I've had some memorable exchanges with both Oscar winners in recent months. You can catch up on the long and unusual history of me and Charlize here.

As for Julia, well if you're not a loyal Movies Blog reader then you'll be excused for forgetting the recent moment when the "Pretty Woman" star kinda sorta flirted with me and suggestively cleaned my glasses. Long story short: it was awesome. And sure enough when I ran into Julia the other night we got back right to our favorite pasttime: eyeglass cleaning!

I now understand why David Letterman has been smitten with Julia Roberts for years. I'll be honest. I've never been the biggest Julia Roberts fan. Sure, she's got undeniable charm and presence and there's the hair and the smile...blah blah blah. For whatever reason I just never thought much of her as an actress. Her new flick opposite Clive Owen, "Duplicity," hasn't really changed my opinion of her. She does a solid job and the flick is pretty entertaining throughout. But to interview the once and forever "Pretty Woman," that is to know what it's like to face a star.

In my Rough Cut interview with Julia Roberts and Clive Owen I was feeling a bit brazen. And apparently so was Julia as she cleaned my glasses and rubbed my back. Then there's the below segment where I tried to interrogate her about how and why she's managed to keep her clothes on all these years while most of her famous bretheren have bared all at one point or another. There's not really an answer in the below but it's entertaining nonetheless.
