RainLots of variety from Variety today. See what I did there? Yeah? Long day. Almost over. Enjoy the Dailies.

-- "School of Rock" writer Mike White sold the script for his "Babe in the Woods," an action-comedy in which a new student at Yale University somehow becomes the target of the New Jersey mob. I envision this as a cross between "PCU" and "The Sopranos." (Variety)

-- The announcement that Steven Spielberg's next project would be an adaptation of the Jimmy Stewart classic "Harvey" led many to speculate that Spielberg pal Tom Hanks would step into -- or at least be approached for -- the Stewart role. Fox hasn't exactly put those possibilities to rest, but they did issue a statement saying that the actor "has not read the script and speculation about him and this project has been inaccurate." So there you have it. (Variety) Read more...

Jonah HillFirst Jonah Hill nearly tackled writer/director Mark Duplass at the South by Southwest film festival in Austin, going on and on about how much he loved Duplass’ debut film “The Puffy Chair,” an indie fav about two brothers who go on a cross-country road trip. Then Hill went and told The New York Times that the film was one of his favorite movies of all time. By that point, Duplass figured the two of them should make some movie magic together.

So they did, along with Duplass’ brother and collaborator, Jay. “The Untitled Duplass Brothers Project,” as it continues to be known after recently wrapping a six week shoot in Los Angeles, stars Hill as the son of a single mother (Marisa Tomei) who begins a relationship with a 40-something guy (John C. Reilly) with a failed marriage in his past.

“[Tomei’s character] is very much out of his league,” Duplass explained to MTV News in a recent interview. “They light up an incredible relationship but she doesn’t really let him in and he finds himself on the other side of the coin, like wanting the snuggle and he can’t get it.” Read more...

Katie HolmesBy the time you read this, "The Extra Man" might already be shooting. Variety reports that Katie Holmes, Paul Dano, Kevin Kline, and John C. Reilly have signed on to the independent comedy based on Jonathan Ames' overlooked novel by the same name.

Directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, "Extra Man" follows a failed playwright (played by Kline) who makes his living as a male escort for rich, lonely widows on the Upper East Side. He finds himself acting as a mentor to Paul Dano's troubled and aspiring playwright. Read more...

Jonah HillThis movie might sound like every dysfunctional family comedy you have ever seen, but one name should make you sit up and say "Ok, that will probably be funny." That name is Jonah Hill. According to Variety, he is in talks with Marisa Tomei and John C. Reilly to star in an untitled comedy directed by Mark and Jay Duplass for Fox.

Reilly will play a recently divorced man who meets the woman of his dreams, played by Tomei. But he has to try and contend with her teenage son (Hill), who has no intention of sharing his mother's affections with another man. Read more...

He has the hottest viral clip on the Internet, more Hollywood stars at his disposal than Woody Allen, and some of his biggest laughs since he wrote the score for “South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut.” So, why is the creator of the hilarious “Prop 8 – The Musical" fearing for his life?

“I’m scared,” laughed 5-time Oscar nominee Marc Shaiman, reflecting on his red-hot mini movie that uses Jack Black, John C. Reilly, Neil Patrick Harris and other notables to mine laughs from a controversial subject. “[1.3 million views in barely a day] feels good, until I read some of the angrier comments left by some very angry people. Then I think, well, maybe I shouldn’t leave the house. I’ll just stay on Funny or Die.” Read more...
