FINALLY! Joe Dante's horror film "The Hole" has been in the can for awhile now. It played last year at the Venice Film Festival, where it won the fest's very first 3-D award. For whatever reason, it hasn't yet surfaced in the states. I don't get it. Dante, who gave the world both "Gremlins" movies (among other things), is certainly a bankable name. "The Hole" is lacking in tentpole stars, sure, but it makes up for that with abundant creepiness. Just check out this clip, the first one that I've seen from the movie. Now seriously-- how about a U.S. release, people?!
The Internet has been buzzing today with rumors that a third "Gremlins" movie is in the works, and that it will hit theaters as a 3-D release. The word comes from MarketSaw via an anonymous tipster. It's fair to point out that they do not always have the best track record with these sorts of unsourced stories. Still, "Gremlins" and its sequel, "Gremlins 2: The New Batch," are among my all-time favorite movies, so I'm understandably intrigued by the possibility of seeing the creative new ways our rascally gremlins find to break the three golden rules of Mogwai care: (1) no bright light, (2) no getting wet and (3) no eating after midnight.
Welcome to Gore Girls! MTV contributor Terri Schwartz doesn't know crap about the horror genre, and she's volunteered to be our Movies Blog guinea pig. She has a good guide too. Fellow contributor Jenni Miller is a bonafide horror enthusiast, and she's willing to walk Terri through her formative experiences with blood, guts, monsters and maniacs. Together, this dynamic duo are horror's own odd couple,
I'm not telling you anything you don't already know here, but werewolves kind of kick ass. They are tragic figures, afflicted with a disease that causes them to turn into mindless, slavering beasts beneath the light of a full moon. Vampires have their own share of tragedy, but they keep it well-hidden behind layers of cunning and deceit. Werewolves are just poor souls who've been victimized by bad luck.
What can I say? I'm a sucker for a gremlin. "

The Venice Film Festival may have lost all of its credibility now that the words “'My Bloody Valentine 3-D' is competing at Venice” can be uttered truthfully. When it was first announced a few weeks ago that the fest would feature a new 3-D award starting this year, I thought that perhaps world cinema was getting on board with the format. Apparently it’s not quite so -- at least not yet -- as today we learn that all nine films competing for the prize are from the U.S.
- I thought you were dead! "Half…." Video showing Two-Face / Harvey Dent pops up online. "The Dark Knight" continues to be the one movie that can't come soon enough. (
