Alexander SkarsgardIt's the swoon heard 'round the world: Alexander Skarsgard will be again playing a Viking, but this time on the big screen.

The "True Blood" stud first donned the horned helm during the third season of the HBO show when his character's Norse roots were shown in a flashback sequence, but now Skarsgard has been tapped by Warner Bros to play a Viking in their upcoming flick "The Vanguard." Variety managed to learn that he will be one of two Viking brothers exiled to America and then begin a quest to make it back to Sweden.

Bradley CooperBradley Cooper, here's hoping you know how to fly.

Splash Page reports that "The Hangover: Part II" star is in talks to headline Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's remake of "The Crow." Not only would Cooper have the not-so-easy-task of taking on the iconic and beloved character Eric Draven, but he'll have to do so while preserving the memory of the late, great Brandon Lee, who died in the process of making the original movie. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but sources say the actor is "keen to board the project."

Check out the rest of today's biggest casting news from Hollywood, including Sean Penn and Christian Bale snapping up "The Last Photograph" and Rufus Sewell taking a bite out of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter."

Joaquin PhoenixAdmit it, you were tremendously relieved when you found out "I'm Still Here" was a hoax. Not because it wouldn't have been a compelling enough documentary on its own, but because it meant that Joaquin Phoenix hadn't gone as far over the edge as we'd all feared. Indeed, the odds that the man could deliver new Oscar-worthy performances in the very near future suddenly increased in our favor.

Well, who knows if this next one is Oscar-worthy, but it's certainly a meaty role to sink one's teeth into, horrible pun intended.

Deadline reports that Phoenix is the frontrunner to land the role of Benjamin Walker's vampire mentor in "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," the semi-historical action flick from director Timur Bekmambetov and producer Tim Burton, based on the brilliantly conceived Seth Grahame-Smith novel of the same name! Clint EastwoodWould playing Leonardo DiCaprio's on-screen lover in Clint Eastwood's "Hoover" have been enough to resurrectJoaquin Phoenix's still-tarnished film career? Maybe... but unfortunately we'll never know.

During an interview with Reuters, Eastwood emphatically denied Phoenix was in contention for the role of Clyde Tolson in the biopic on J. Edgar Hoover.

"No. I don't know where that came from," Eastwood said. "Didn't he become a rapper?"

Sort of... but not really, as we all discovered when Casey Affleck revealed that "I'm Still Here" was a hoax. But it still is a bit of a disappointment that Phoenix's mutilation of his own career for the sake of Affleck's doc potentially contributed to his not getting what would have been a great role. Clint Eastwood's latest, "Hoover," has been the talk of the town recently since New York Magazine's Culture Vulture blog announced that the director wants Joaquin Phoenix to play the title character's boyfriend, Clyde Tolson. There seemed to be some doubts, though, as to whether or not long-time leading man Leonardo DiCaprio was still attached to the role of J. Edgar Hoover, but MovieLine had the chance to catch up with the film's screenwriter, Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black, who was able to set the record straight on the matter. Needless to say, the film is still starring DiCaprio, though Black was mum on the Phoenix rumors.

According to Black, the script is completed and the film is set to start shooting early next year, and that the script won't be as linear as his previous Oscar-winner, "Milk." "People know Hoover -- or think they know Hoover -- and that’s great as a writer because you’re free as a writer to explore other stuff," Black said. "People didn’t know Milk, so I think it needed a more traditional structure." Read More...

I saw "I'm Still Here" earlier this week, Casey Affleck's documentary(?) covering a period of roughly a year in the life of (former?) actor Joaquin Phoenix. As many of us know, Phoenix seemed to go a little batty starting in late-2008 when he announced his retirement from the world of Hollywood in order to pursue a career as a rapper. The hair grew long and unkempt, the beard became an unmanageable bird's nest and the drug use, at least from what Affleck's doc shows, ran rampant.

In short, we were led to believe that Phoenix had some sort of meltdown.

I'm speaking in uncertain terms because the debate that's raging around the movie is whether or not what we see on screen is a hoax or in some way staged. I'll address my thoughts on that at the end of this write-up, but first let's talk about "I'm Still Here" as what it is: a work of film. Read More...

I truly hope that Joaquin Phoenix comes out to do press for "I'm Still Here," Casey Affleck's doc about him, completely fresh-faced and clean-cut. Because the Joaquin on display in the below trailer for the film is anything but. Rather, it's the scraggly, wild-haired, sunglasses-wearing loon we've come to know over the past year-plus. The doc is supposed to be pretty bizarre; we'll all find out when it hits theaters in September.

Whether or not you're a fan of his work, its been hard to avoid seeing reports of Joaquin Phoenix's odd behavior in recent times. The big, woolly beard, the push towards launching a career in hip-hop, the strange behavior in interviews... it's all been documented for a film, "I'm Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix." A film that, until today's report from Deadline, didn't have proper distribution.

That's all changed now: Magnolia has picked up the movie for a limited release on September 10 and a wide release a week later. Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles had this to say: "No matter what I thought coming in, I came out feeling this was a pretty amazing piece of work, jaw dropping but dimensional. It is going to get a lot of attention, but it is not some cheap stunt where they said, 'Let's do some wild stuff and film it.' It is extreme behavior but really good filmmaking as well."

I can't wait to see this thing. What are your thoughts about the ongoing Joaquin Phoenix saga?

Even if you've been following the odd saga of Joaquin Phoenix over the past couple years, it's still difficult to separate the facts from the fiction. In mid-2008 it was learned that the actor was switching gears in his career to focus on creating music, specifically hip-hop. This shift quickly became the subject of a documentary, directed by Casey Affleck, about the move. Phoenix is getting plenty of support for his music, with rap mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs reportedly mentoring him. So when MTV's Josh Horowitz sat down with the prolific rapper/producer/music executive/actor at the "Get Him to the Greek" junket, he had to dig a little deeper into what's going on with the Phoenix.

According to Diddy, the the actor is "for real." Hear it from the man himself in the below clip:
