Stephenie MeyerBoth were mothers who, around the time of their thirtieth birthday, first imagined a fantasy franchise that would bring them fame, fortune, and a loyal fanbase. This winter, both will provide Hollywood with an eagerly-anticipated blockbuster.

So, when I was interviewing "Twilight" novelist Stephenie Meyer this week for the story that just went live over on MTV.com, I had to ask: Has she ever met J.K. Rowling?

"No," the affable author revealed. "But I would love to; I would love to sit down and talk with her." Read more...

J.K. RowlingThe problem of coming up with a clever title? Following it up. You just try writing a story called "Babbity Rabbity and her Cackling Stump" -- "if anyone thinks it was easy, let me disabuse them here," J.K. Rowling wrote on her website of her efforts to flesh out the fairy-tale book Dumbledore leaves to Hermione in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."

Since J.K. wanted to create a very personal thank you present to those most closely involved with Harry over the years, she actually wrote the fables referred to in "The Tales of Beedle the Bard." "The Tale of the Three Brothers," the only one we got a real sense of in Book Seven, so that left the titles Ron rattles off: "The Fountain of Fair Fortune," "The Wizard and the Hopping Pot," the aforementioned "Babbitty Rabbitty" and a new story, "The Warlock's Hairy Heart." Rowling handwrote and illustrated the 160-page "Tales of Beedle the Bard," which is extremely limited edition -- only seven copies were made, and one of those, the "Moonstone" edition, is being auctioned off for the charity Children's Voice, with an asking price of $60,000. Don't have that kind of dough? You can look at the book, which will be on display in London until the auction on December 13. Read more...

Daniel Radcliffe in 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire'Harry Potter rests behind a tombstone, his leg throbbing, his arm cut, the taunts of Lord Voldemort growing louder. Desperate, alone, and wickedly outmatched, Harry decides to stand up and fight like a man, to die on his feet like his father.

It's a brilliant Old West "shootout" with "one of the meanest bad guys that's ever been" enthused "Goblet of Fire" director Mike Newell. In retrospect, it also happens to be the climax of the whole Potter series. Everything in books 5, 6, and 7 lead from Harry's decision here to actively fight Lord Voldemort and, more importantly, his willingness to die doing it.

But now that "Deathly Hallows" has been released, we wondered if Newell was aware of any of that, meaning did author J.K. Rowling happen to let slip any of Harry's ultimate fate, like she did with some of the film's young stars.

"No. Absolutely nothing. I asked her and she wouldn't [say a thing]. She was very funny about that," Newell recalled. "I asked her questions [and] she simply said 'I'm not answering them. Not that. Not that. Not that.'" Read more...

J.K. RowlingIn a world filled with magic spells, where problems can be solved with a flick of the wrist, the old adage still applies, a delighted J.K. Rowling told reporters: Be careful what you wish for!

That held particularly true for the stars of the "Harry Potter" movie series, she said, who all wanted to know what was going to happen to their characters as the last "Potter" book approached...until, that is, she started to tell them. (WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD.)

"I think they were always petrified of asking me," she said, smiling broadly. "I went down to the set and Dan [Radcliffe] and I had a real chat and it was great. And I said to him 'Dumbledore's giving me a bit of trouble.' And he said, 'But Dumbledore's dead!' And then immediately 'Don't tell me! Don't tell me!'" Read more...
