Harry PotterWhy does Twitter exist, you ask? So that we can get instantaneous access to awesome breaking news. Like the fact that Elizabeth Banks has officially confirmed that she'll star in "The Hunger Games" as Effie Trinket, for instance. May the odds be ever in her favor!

Even as "Hunger Games" ramps up, the "Harry Potter" movies start winding down — but not without releasing one heck of an epic trailer for "Deathly Hallows Part 2," and Twitter users across the world fell head over heels with the new movie.

ThorThe day of the norseman is nigh! The release of "Thor" is just two weeks away and if you're like us, you're seeing advertisements everywhere. We thought the poster was just plain ol' intense, but one actor had a different interpretation of Thor's icy gaze.

Meanwhile, if you follow anyone under 60 on Twitter, you're already well-aware that yesterday was 4/20. National Weed Day has drifted away from us like a puff of smoke in the breeze, but at least the internet lasts forever -- and as actors toked up, they also tweeted out. Plus, a "G.I. Joe" cast member is officially back for the sequel.

I'm @TravisHelwig and this is Twitter-Wood for April 21st, 2011.

Emma Watson at Harry Potter premiereYou may not be able to attend the "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" premiere in London, but a handful of folks in the Twitter-Wood feed received invitations and shared what they were up to en route.

Another traveling tale that showed up today came from David Slade, who happened to see someone watching a pirated version of his movie "Eclipse" on a plane. You can check out how he felt about that after the jump, as well as what Duncan Jones and Edgar Wright had to say about the passing of "Blue Velvet" producer Dino De Laurentiis... and how Jim Gaffigan views Veterans Day.

Alyssa MilanoThe cast of "Community" kept their tweet feeds lively last night with a few behind-the-scenes shots from their Halloween episode. It butted heads schedule-wise with Game 2 of the World Series, though, where Rose McGowan returned once again to support the Giants, prompting Alyssa Milano to ask why she wasn't a baseball fan when they worked together on "Charmed."

Elsewhere, Eli Roth was amused by the Charlie Chaplin time traveler theories that have been floating around. You'll find his thoughts along with pics of 50 Cent with Robert Redford and Sarah Silverman having a good time with Kathy Griffin after the jump.

Twitter-Wood's been lively today, and the Report has pictures to prove it. Actress Ana de la Reguera shared a look at her makeup job for Jon Favreau's "Cowboys and Aliens," while Jim Gaffigan hung out with Zach Galifianakis and "Weird Al" Yankovic found a knife you probably didn't expect to see today.

The folks behind the scenes at Twitter pulled off a new look for their site, and Alyssa Milano offered a critique. Meanwhile, the changes haven't been enough to scare newcomer Steve Martin, who posted a quick banjo story. Find out out more about that down below.

People across America experienced Justin Bieber in a variety of ways last night, whether it was at his concert in New York City or watching him dance off with Shaquille O'Neal on "Shaq Vs." Snoop Dogg captured his night in a TwitPic, and producer of "The Social Network" Dana Brunetti chose to express himself through a simple Internet-friendly abbreviation.

In the meantime, news events have been trending in Twitter-Wood this afternoon as the hostage situation at the Discovery Channel building in Maryland captured a lot of attention. Most of the reactions have just been out of shock after a man believed to be named James Lee entered and began making demands. Steve Jobs' announcements at the Apple press event today stirred up some interest as well, and you can find one of those from "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" creator Bryan Lee O'Malley after the jump.

Star Wars was on a lot of minds in Twitter-Wood today for some reason. Nathan Fillion received a lightsaber as a gift, Seth MacFarlane used George Lucas' universe to express his own perspective on the proposed mosque in Manhattan that's come under fire and Jim Gaffigan contemplated Darth Vader's fashion motives.

In non-Star Wars tweeting, Simon Pegg really dug Cee-Lo's new single, Brent Spiner found himself attending the same event as former Illinois Rod Blagojevich, and Rainn Wilson has suggestions for Wyclef Jean's campaign to to become Haiti's next president. Find out who's sides you're on after the jump, as well as what Jackie Chan's Korean fan artwork looks like.

U.S. President Barack Obama turned some heads in Los Angeles yesterday by paying a visit to a fundraiser and impacting traffic in the city. Tweets on the matter trended fiercely, and Patton Oswalt, Richard Kelly, Jon Hurwitz and David Spade all felt the effects of the POTUS appearance.

Plenty of work posts showed up in Twitter-Wood as well. William Shatner, for instance, sounds like he's having a good time on the "$#*! My Dad Says" set. Alison Brie got stoked about the rental car she picked up for "Scream 4." And Sofia Vergara put up a photo from behind the scenes at "American Family."

Bankruptcy rumors about Blockbuster were not met with sympathy from one filmmaker in the Twitter-Wood feed. Troma Entertainment's Lloyd Kaufman took the opportunity to sound off about his long-running dissatisfaction with the video rental giant, and he doesn't wish them well.

Elsewhere, Simon Pegg has been pushing forward with filming on "Burke and Hare," and he mentioned a scene location today that the movie will share with "Gladiator." Emmy Rossum geared for some March Madness basketball action, and Kat Dennings bought a spiffy new pair of boots. You can check those out after the jump along some of the weirdest sock monkey headgear ever to the grace this column in Twitter-Wood for March 19th, 2010. Read More...

Scott Brown's win in the race for Ted Kennedy's U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts drew varying reactions in Twitter-Wood today. Rainn Wilson gave the election results a thumbs down. Candace Cameron gave them a thumbs up. And David Pressman thinks that Scott Brown is sexy.

In non-political controversial discussion, the recent rainstorms hitting Los Angeles have provoked predictable commentary on how residents there have no idea how to drive. Since rain in L.A. is so rare, many drivers have problems staying in control on wet Hollywood pavement. Nathan Fillon says Stan Lee is not one of them, however. Check out those tweets after the jump where you can also find out what John Lithgow had to say about his "Dexter" co-star Michael C. Hall and who Chris Rock mistook Elizabeth Banks for last night. It's all in Twitter-Wood for January 20, 2010. Read More...
