Russell BrandHere's a pairing that comes wonderfully out of left field: Russell Brand could star in Diablo Cody's directorial debut "Lamb of God."

The news comes at us courtesy of Twitch, who learned that Brand has been offered the lead in the flick and that "Footloose" star Julianne Hough is the top choice to play the movie's leading lady. "Lamb of God" tells the story of a young conservative religious woman who loses her faith and decides to go to Vegas and "live the life of a sinner," but ends up finding her faith along the way.

Thor"Thor" brought all of its signature lightning to bear upon moviegoers this weekend, lighting up the box office with an impressive $66 million debut. Though some had their issues with Marvel's latest superhero release, many of the actors and writers lurking about Twitter-Wood expressed their overall satisfaction with the Asgardian adventure.

While it was "Thor" that dominated the box office, Mother's Day took plenty of deserved attention for itself. Several Hollywood players were celebrating the holiday for themselves, while others offered some dirty (but good-natured) jokes instead of well-wishes.

Plus, who didn't much care for "The Beaver"? The answer to that and more rests past the jump.

I'm @roundhoward and this is Twitter-Wood for May 9, 2011.

Spy Kids 4When you think of Robert Rodriguez, you're more likely to think of him as the guy responsible for highly stylized blood-filled thrillers like "Planet Terror," "Predators" and "Sin City." But don't forget that this is the same guy who brought us the "Spy Kids" franchise all those years ago, a series that's been inactive since 2003.

Well, Rodriguez is calling those young spies into active duty one more time this summer — and this time, there's a heavy emphasis on "duty."

Jessica Alba stars in "Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World" as a spy mom who embarks on covert espionage missions, sometimes with a newborn baby strapped to her chest. As you do. It's a new take on a tried and true franchise, and the inspiration behind this latest iteration of "Spy Kids" has some pretty surprising origins — namely, Alba's real-life diaper-changing responsibilities as a new mom. We spoke with Rodriguez about the new "Spy Kids" movie as part of our Summer Movie Preview. Check out an excerpt from the interview past the jump.

Jessica AlbaIt's been eight years since the last "Spy Kids" movie, and boy, things have changed. For one, the kids aren't really kids anymore -- Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara are 22 and 18 years old, respectively, and are probably just a few years too old to be in Robert Rodriguez's "Spy Kids" Rolodex these days.

But the wheels turn, and the "Spy Kids" franchise is being relaunched this year with original director Rodriguez at the helm. It'll star a newly-expecting Jessica Alba as a retired spy mom who gets thrown back into the biz when an evil Jeremy Piven shows up to do something or other.

Dimension tossed out the first image from the movie (via Bleeding Cool), showing a positively worried Alba holding her daughter, getting ready for spy stuff. And even if the image is just a smidge on the cheesy side, we actually think there's good cause to get excited over Alba's sexy spy mom -- and, as if you needed them, we've got the reasons why past the jump.

In the spirit of the underlying wackiness that characterizes each and every "Fockers" film -- "Meet the Parents," "Meet the Fockers" and now "Little Fockers" -- we thought we'd have a little fun with the cast when we caught up with them at the recent "Fockers" press day. Our version of said fun was asking everyone (Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman and Owen Wilson, and Jessica Alba) a few multiple choice "would you rather" questions based on events that happen in the films. Note: Hoffman's impression of a musical condom is not to be missed.

MTV's Josh Horowitz got to live out every blue-blooded heterosexual male's fantasy earlier this week when "Little Fockers" star Jessica Alba popped on by our offices for a good old-fashioned slumber party. Jessica Alba in pajamas, possibly wanting to have a pillow fight -- not a bad gig, right?

Well, as it turns out Alba's idea of a slumber party was just a wee bit different. To be sure, it involved the adorable actress in some very cute PJs -- always a bonus -- but large knives, avocado hair masks and Greek-yogurt facials were also on the menu. Luckily, Alba did agree to the ages-old slumber party pasttime of "Truth or Dare" (which, as we all know, was invented by Madonna). Did things get scandalous? See for yourself...

With which celebrity -- other than Alba, of course -- would you want to have a slumber party? Tell us in the comments!

Blake EdwardsWriter-director Blake Edwards' death was felt in Twitter-Wood today. His films such as "Breakfast at Tiffany"'s and "The Pink Panther" influenced generations of Hollywood talent, and a few such actors and directors, including Edgar Wright, Steve Martin and William Shatner paid their respects with posts.

The sports world was sad as well, with Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Feller passing away; Brody Stevens honored his legacy, while yet even more distraught tweets reacted to news that "Stargate Universe" has been canceled on Syfy. Check out who's going to miss it down below.

Miley CyrusJust in case you wanted a color pic to go with your shot of John Cusack in "The Raven" from earlier today, he tweeted a creepy accompaniment that you may wish to check out.

Elsewhere, Miley Cyrus is still grabbing attention with that bong video from last week, and Seth MacFarlane suggested how she might have avoided being identified. And speaking of uncomfortable moments, an alternate "Yogi Bear" ending that you're not likely to see in theaters has been making the tweet rounds and was passed along by Paul Scheer to his followers today. You'll understand what I'm talking about down below, where you'll also find Jessica Alba sharing a special moment with MTV News' own Joshua Horowitz.

Tron: Legacy premiereThere was a lot of honesty floating around in the Twitter-Wood feed today, as Jeremy Piven shared some bizarre details about a dream he had involving Seth Rogen, and Jessica Alba laid out her feelings about Barbie in a post.

Elsewhere, Olivia Wilde was living it up in London celebrating the "Tron: Legacy" premiere, while Eli Roth missed out on "The Simpsons" because he was in Chile and Damon Lindelof declared that he believes "Terriers" will live on even though FX has canceled it. Everyone's favorite Fockers are back, just in time for the holiday season! It's been nearly 10 years since we first encountered the shenanigans, catastrophes and awkward comedy of the Focker and Byrnes families, and now they've invited us join them for a third cinematic adventure, "Little Fockers," helmed by Paul Weitz (brother of "New Moon" director, Chris Weitz).

This time around, the film focuses on how the addition of two new Fockers, Greg (Ben Stiller) and Pam's (Terri Polo) 5-year-old twins Henry and Samantha, affects the fam. And it also deals with Jack's (Robert De Niro) realization that Greg is next in line to be the Byrnes-Focker patriarch or, as he likes to put it, the "Godfocker." All the main players, including Blythe Danner, Barbara Streisand, Dustin Hoffman and even Owen Wilson, return. Read more...
