-- Let the speculation begin. "Howling Mad" Murdock actor Dwight Schultz will be showing up for a cameo in Joe Carnahan's "The A-Team," according to a fansite. Hopefully, this means we'll be seeing other cameos from the rest of the team. Who doesn't want to see Mr. T give this young guns A-Team a vote of confidence with a tiny cameo role. Hell, he can leave his gold chains at home if it makes him happy. Schultz is great, but the fans want what they want: bring back T. (The Official Dwight Schultz Fansite, via Cinematical)
-- "Mad Men" producer Matthew Weiner is turning his attention to film now that the latest season is finished. He's now getting set to helm "You Are Here," a romantic comedy that he wrote. Independent financing is already in place and the cast will include the likes of Jennifer Aniston and "The Hangover" stars Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis. No word on a synopsis, but he'd better get cracking or he's going to leave a lot of "Mad Men" fans very disappointed. (Variety) Read more...

Before diving in with the coming week's releases, let's take a quick look at last week's. I think the poll results usually paint a pretty telling picture of who is reading this blog. The weekend's big box office winner, Tyler Perry's "I Can Do Bad All By Myself," failed to pick up a single vote in the poll. "Sorority Row" took top spot in the poll (70% of your votes), followed in a distant second by "Whiteout" and "9," which were basically tied, at 15% and 13% respectively.
My takeaway is that you readers are on the younger side -- ie below 30, or at least not yet parents -- and that you prefer spectacle to schmaltz. That's definitely an overly broad generalization, but I do find the fact the weekend's biggest earner, by quite a wide margin I might add, didn't even pick up one vote in last week's poll. Now, let's take a look at what's in store this week... Read more...

She may have become a bit typecast over the last few years with lighthearted romances like “He’s Just Not That Into You,” “The Break-Up” and “Along Came Polly,” but one of the cool things about Jennifer Aniston is that the girl does have a neat little indie streak buried deep inside her. With flicks like “The Good Girl,” “The Iron Giant” and “Office Space,” she has the guts to lend her star power to something different and daring from time to time – and in an upcoming flick, it sounds like she might be singing that tune once again.
“I’m taking time off until January or February even and diving into my production company, Echo, with projects that we’re developing… ’Goree Girls’ is the one I’m most excited about,” explained the star, citing the name of a period drama she’s been developing for more than a year. “[The script is based on] an article from Texas Monthly that Skip Hollandsworth wrote. It’s about the first female country/western band.” Read more...
FROM NEWSROOM.MTV.COM For those of us who are anxiously counting down to Sunday's Oscars, there's something better than golden statues to look forward to: a good-old red-carpet showdown. So which power couple's got the edge? Let's break it down.
Continue reading who we predict to win the Oscar red carpet face-off on NEWSROOM.MTV.COM.
Here's a movie plot that might make you squirm in your seat a little bit. According to Variety, Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman have signed on to star in "The Baster" -- and yes, it's all right there in the title.
"The Baster" centers on Bateman, who plays a neurotic and insecure man who finds out his best friend is planning to get pregnant via artificial insemination. He decides to swap the donor's sperm with his own and presto, ends up making a baby with Aniston. She has no idea who the true father is, and he is forced to live with the secret of being a baby-daddy. I suspect it will turn out all right in the end, and true love will be realized, but it just seems like a rather icky way to go about it, doesn't it?
Will Speck and Josh Gordon ("Blades of Glory") will direct the film from a screenplay by Allan Loeb. Believe it or not, the film was actually based on Jeffery Eugenides' short story in the New Yorker. So while it may make "Knocked Up" seem rather Puritan, it has a classy literary origin. The film begins shooting this spring.
MTV readers, is this your kind of romantic comedy? Or does it sound more like a gross out laugh fest? Do you wish Aniston would take a break from "single chick" films? Let's get this discussion started.
Jennifer Aniston must like confinement. We reported yesterday her involvement in a Gerard Butler romantic comedy set in prison, and now we have a bit more info on her other jail-themed flick, "Goree Girls."
According to the erstwhile "Friends" star, the film -- based on a true story -- will find Aniston teaming with other female inmates to start a country western band, which quickly becomes nationally popular. Asked if her vocal chops are up for the job, she was quick to point out that didn't really matter. "I'm not supposed to know how to really sing," she replied.
Check out more on the film in the video below along with Owen Wilson discussing his "cameo" in Judd Apatow's "Funny People," and then click here to read and watch our full interview with the "Marley & Me" co-stars.
This movie deal comes with some major tabloid baggage. If you're a follower of celebrity gossip, you know that everyone was certain that Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler were an item. It turns out those "business lunches" were just that -- business. According to Variety, they're in negotiations to star in an untitled romantic comedy for Columbia Pictures.
Andy Tennant, man of a thousand romantic comedies, is attached to direct the prison caper. Butler will play a bounty hunter who's hired to retrieve his ex-wife, played by Aniston, who has skipped bail. The prison angle explains the rumors that Aniston wanted Butler for the women's prison drama "Goree Girls," which makes you wonder how many prison movies Aniston might be in talks for. Read more...
