Comic-Con just revealed a BIG surprise courtesy of an old school property that's about to get a big screen revamping.
We have just seen footage of a new "Tron" movie and yes, Jeff Bridges is back!
During a Disney panel that was ostensibly set up to promote "Race to Witch Mountain," the studio waited until the very end to reveal their new version of "Tron." And the new film has an official title, "Tr2n." Yes, it is officially a sequel.
Since no casting or release date had even been announced for the film, the debut of fully completed footage, much less starring Jeff Bridges, caught everyone by surprise.
And it wasn't just the fact that Bridges appeared in the teaser, the Oscar-nominated actor appeared to be playing two different characters -- Flynn (from the original) and a younger version of himself.
Here's what was shown: Read more...
"Iron Man" had a star-studded premiere last night in Hollywood, and MTV News was there in force with our own fancy area on the red carpet. Click here to read the article, watch the videos and see the photos, and below check out Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeff Bridges get quizzed on Iron Man's armor.
There's been a bit of chatter lately -- courtesy of a John Turturro interview in ESPN Magazine -- about a "Big Lebowski" sequel of sorts. It seems we might not have hear the last of Turturro's notorious bowling ball licking Jesus character. At least that's what he hopes (and so do we). So where does Steve Buscemi stand on a "Lebowski" sequel? He told us he's all for it, but since his character is dead (remember what happened to poor Donnie's ashes?) he has another concept in mind for the Coen brothers. "You could have the prequel to 'The Big Lebowski'" Buscemi said. So whose story would this be? Buscemi's got it covered. "It could be the life of Donnie the surfer because remember, he not only bowls, he surfs."
That's all well and good, but when is Steve going to show up for one of those "Big Lebowski" festivals that are getting increasingly popular? Watch Buscemi's hilarious and completely unambiguous answer below.
Yesterday we reported that MTV spent a day on the set of "Iron Man," Hollywood's big-budget adaptation of Marvel's iconic superhero. Today we have the full report. Watch our exclusive video interview with director Jon Favreau and his leading man Robert Downey Jr. taped on-set, and then read what we learned. If my wife asks, the greatest moment of my past twelve months is our wedding; hopefully, the rest of you will keep the secret that it might just instead be visiting the massive set of "Iron Man" on Wednesday.
Now that the story is live, you can click here to get all the breaking news on Marvel's next big superhero blockbuster. Using quotes from Robert Downey Jr. and director Jon Favreau, as well as my own wide-open eagle eyes, I've tried my best to bring it all to you guys, including eyebrow-raising details on the following... Yesterday, I joined the ranks of the privileged few to step into the world of "Iron Man"...undoubtedly the most top-secret set in all of Hollywoodland. And at this moment, I'm thankful for the lone, three-letter word that can precisely sum up my thoughts: Wow.
If you're a comics geek like myself, you know that Tony Stark remains the greatest superhero to never get his own movie (until now); if you're simply a movies fan who enjoyed the "Spider-Man" and "X-Men" flicks -- well, just know that this is the blockbuster you'll be buzzing about in twelve months.
Robert Downey Jr. and Jeff Bridges were hanging around, watching Gwyneth Paltrow dance between takes. A kid-in-a-candy-store-like Jon Favreau ran from the sleek offices of Stark Enterprises to the Iraq cave that starts the story, checking on the progress of his sets. As a lifelong fan of the man in the red-and-yellow suit, I couldn't help but feel like my Nikes were treading on holy ground.
Favreau and the Marvel crew have created a self-contained superhero city on one of L.A.'s biggest soundstages. I've never seen a bigger set in my life, and there's so much in there: Stark Enterprises, the cave, the underground garage (packed with machinery and eye-popping autos) where Stark builds the suit, and so much more that Favreau and the crew need personalized bicycles to transport themselves between it all.
We snagged exclusive interviews with Favreau and Downey, some great B-roll of their footage, and tons of details about the sets. And then, in mid-interview, the affable actor/director unexpectedly whipped out THE HELMET, and turned it on for us!
Check back here tomorrow -- and on the movies section of MTV.com -- for the full report, including our in-depth write-up, exclusive videos from the set, and to find out what Downey and Favs had to say...such as their news-breaking revelation of the climactic scene that they claim will equal such classic moments as Indiana Jones vs. the boulder. Hopefully by then, I'll be able to come up with something to describe it that's all a little bit better than "Wow."
Forget Mandarin -- the Chinese supervillain and holder of the "ten rings" who is widely expected to be Iron Man's nemesis in the superhero's upcoming film debut -- Iron Man is going to fight Iron Monger. Well...that's my theory anyway, and you should know right off the bat that it's at odds with what Marvel officially announced at last year's Comic-Con.
But it seems to fit. Here's why:
- Terrence Howard told MTV some months ago that the scene he was most excited about showing the world was "Iron Man [battling] Collossus, the original suit that he made." The official villain, Mandarin, never wears Tony Stark's armor in the comics, though. In fact, the whole point of the character -- as I understand him -- is that he's one of the few people capable of defeating Iron Man without mechanical enhancements.
- Despite the fact that the film is currently shooting, no Mandarin casting has been announced. Read more...
Will "Iron Man" be Marvel's answer to Christopher Guest? The film that stars Robert Downey Jr. and Terrence Howard could wind up being a superhero "Spinal Tap," revealed veteran actor Jeff Bridges, who told MTV News that director Jon Favreau was encouraging his cast to ad-lib.
"We were talking about improvisation in ["Surf's Up"]; well, we're doing a lot of improvisation in 'Iron Man' to discover scenes and get off the written page and doing a lot of work like that," Bridges, who plays Obadiah Stane, divulged. "I know Jon is very interested in grounding it as much in reality as he possibly can. The suit for instance, the first suit, it looks like, 'Oh yeah, maybe that could happen.' It's all possible."
But will Bridges himself get to wear it? In the comics, Obadiah turns from mentor to enemy, ultimately donning the armor to become the villainous Iron Monger. "I might, I might," he answered when asked if he was going to get to wear the suit. "But, on the other hand," he said quickly after, with a wide grin across his face, "I don't want to spoil it for the viewers."
The cat's out of the bag...or is it? Would you like to see Obadiah Stane turn bad? Leave your thoughts on "Iron Man" below.
