"Independence Day." Classic blockbuster. It wasn't "2012" director Roland Emmerich's big screen debut, but it's an epic-scale disaster flick that pulled no punches when it came to trashing the planet Earth. Nothing was safe when those aliens descended in their gigantic, city-spanning UFOs. Who can forget the iconic scene of the White House being blown to smithereens?
Released on July 3, 1996 and starring Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman, it's a bit of a surprise that the popular sci-fi flick has never seen a sequel. According to Emmerich, it's not for lack of desire. To hear him tell it, in an interview with Latino Review, there's a "very really good great story, a very cool one." Read more...
This past Thursday, shortly after Michael Jackson's untimely passing, a sick Internet rumor started that veteran actor Jeff Goldblum had died. His reps were quick to point out that the actor was, in fact, very much alive and well. For any of you doubting Thomases out there, here's photographic evidence of the actor's good health, taken just a couple weeks ago:
Of course, as many here in the MTV offices will attest to, Jeff Goldblum is king. He will always be David Cronenberg's original "Fly" of course, but I love him best for starring alongside a young Laurence Fishburne as a high-class drug dealer in "Deep Cover." And a designer drug dealer at that. In the honor of the fact that Jeff Goldblum still walks among us, I present to you this little photographic tour through his career. Read more...
UPDATE: Check out our Jeff Goldblum photo gallery for some great shots of the actor throughout his career!
The last 24 hours have been about a week long in Twitter-Wood. After two unplanned updates with reactions to Michael Jackson's death, I'm back with some regularly scheduled programming.
First off, the best news of the last day is that Jeff Goldblum is not dead. Kevin Spacey set the record straight on his Twitter account, and several others reacted as that rumor brushfire was extinguished. So Laura Dern is in. Sam Neill is out, as is Alessandro Nivola. But what about Dr. Ian Malcolm, Mr. Chaos Theory, the voice of reason himself: Jeff Goldblum? If there’s to be a “Jurassic Park IV,” will he be in it?
After all, his character survived a near-death on Isla Nublar in the first film to make an appearance in the second, and was even referenced in the third, which means … “Who knows?” laughed Goldblum when we caught up with him at the Director's Guild Honors.
“I don’t know about that,” Goldblum said. “I don’t know what the future holds. My plate is full right now [since joining the cast of ‘Law and Order: Criminal Intent’].”
But once Goldblum started reminiscing about working with Steven Spielberg, who directed the first two Jurassic Park films, produced the third, and is producing the fourth, the actor relented a bit. Read more...
