Have you heard about "Jaws In Japan" yet? Don't be sad if the answer is no; the movie doesn't appear to have an actual tie to the blockbuster Steven Spielberg-created franchise. Instead, it is a Japanese release -- direct-to-video, apparently that "borrows" the title font from the original film. Amazon has it listed for pre-order with an October 12 release. There's no info beyond the basic stats listed there, but a peek at U.S. distributor Cinema Epoch's website reveals the following:

Beautiful girls are in danger. At Sunny Beach, a huge shark is waiting for his prey.

College students Miki and Mai arrive on a private beach on a tropical island. They can't find the hotel where they booked their reservations, and have gotten hopelessly lost, until a handsome young man shows up, offering to take them to his lodge.

But something is not right about the place. The owner's fingernails are tainted with blood and Miki feels something sinister lurking nearby.

This thing got me thinking. If "Jaws In Japan" can happen, what other wacky ideas are out there just waiting to exploit the cache of Spielberg's legendary film shark? I've cooked up a few after the jump. Thanks to Cinematical for bringing this one to the Internet's attention. Read More...

Producers of the upcoming vicious fishies flick, "Piranha 3-D," are positioning their film to become "Jaws" for the 21st Century. If an unsourced rumor floated on the Internet earlier this month is to be believed, the studio behind 1975's "Jaws" is determined to have their shark-infested-waters classic remade to become the "Jaws" for the 21st Century, possibly with Tracy Morgan in the lead role.

When we caught up with Mogan on the red carpet for his upcoming buddy-actioner "Cop Out," we had the opportunity to put the question to the comedian himself. Has Universal approached the "30 Rock" star with the idea for a new "Jaws" with Morgan in the role originated by Richard Dreyfuss (who just so happens to have a role in "Piranha")?

"Not yet," he replied. "Not yet." Read More...

JawsYeah, there's really no other way to cut it. The kids love "Potter." The grown-ups love "Potter." Hell, even the Pope loves "Potter." Director David Yates' silver screen adaptation of J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" has stirred the hearts and minds of the 'sphere's writers.

Which isn't to say that I've filled yet another Around the Blogosphere post with nothing but "Potter" content. It's only mostly about "Potter" and angles relating to the same. And then there's something about "Jaws" too. Boy wizards and giant, man-eating sharks... not quite "Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus," but close enough. Read More...
