Sean PennAs we've already reported, Sean Penn and Hollywood are breaking up. Or at least going through a trial separation. One of the consequences of this newly announced hiatus is Penn's departure from the Farrelly Brothers' "The Three Stooges," a film that's now in jeopardy thanks to the actor's sudden exit.

With the role of Larry now open, it'll be up to a last-minute replacement to save the film. So who in the movie business could possibly jump in at the eleventh hour to knock noses and poke eyeballs with Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro? It remains to be seen -- but I've certainly got my picks. Read more...

Javier BardemI know a lot of women who would love to eat, pray and love with Javier Bardem... and just about as many who would run away from him screaming thanks to his terrifying turn in "No Country for Old Men." But surely, if there's any actor who can convince women he doesn't wield a captive bolt gun, it's the Oscar-winning Bardem. He'll get his chance with the big screen adaptation of novelist Elizabeth Gilbert's globe-trotting memoir, "Eat, Pray, Love." Variety reports that he has joined star Julia Roberts in the self-discovery drama.

Roberts will play Gilbert, who decided that the cure for her depression -- fed by a recent divorce and rebound romance -- was to travel around Italy, Indonesia and India. "Eat" was the result of her global exploration and inner soul-searching... and naturally, she found a little real life romance too. That's where Bardem comes in, as a fellow named Felipe who Gilbert meets and falls in love with on the final stage of her journey. Also along for the ride is Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins, who will play a Texan that Gilbert meets and befriends while hanging out at an Indian ashram. Read more...

Javier BardemUPDATE: Nikki Finke is now reporting that Javier Bardem is simply who some want to play the role in the film. He has not signed on nor even met with Oliver Stone.

Michael Douglas may have a new co-star for for Oliver Stone's economic crisis indictment "Wall Street 2." In addition to young "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" hero Shia LaBeouf, the sequel to Stone's 1987 film may now have "No Country for Old Men" villain Javier Bardem aboard as well. The story begins in June 2008, exploring the hedge fund disasters and federal bailouts that followed. This is no remake though; "Wall Street 2" will be a direct sequel, with Douglas stepping back into his Oscar-winning role as Gordon Gekko.

Bardem will play the antagonist in "Wall Street 2," claiming knowledge that LaBeouf's character will make a risky deal with Gekko to take him down amid the chaotic events that rocked the finance industry last year, according to a report on Deadline Hollywood. The film may begin filming as soon as this August, with a release date currently set for February 2010. Read more...

Khan

To no one’s surprise, “Star Trek” opened huge this weekend, beaming in more than $72 million at the box office since it hit theaters on Thursday evening. Now a second “Trek” courtesy of director J.J. Abrams—what would be the twelfth film in the sci-fi franchise—seems all but assured. Where do we go from here? For devoted Trekkers, the hands-down #1 film of all-time in the canon is 1982’s “The Wrath of Khan,” starring Ricardo Montalbán (who passed away in January) as the superhuman title villain. Indeed, even before this newest “Trek” came out, speculation was rampant about the possibility of a new Khan making an appearance in a future "Trek."

“The honest answer is if you're a ‘Trek’ fan, there's no way Khan isn't at the top of the list of things you want to play with, right?” co-screenwriter Roberto Orci told Ain’t It Cool News earlier this month. With that idea in mind, MTV News has taken on the role of casting director to select five people we think would make worthy successors to Montalbán’s Khan. Read more...

Javier BardemAfter his terrifying turn in "No Country for Old Men," Javier Bardem has shot onto Hollywood's most watched list. While he took the chance to romance Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz in Woody Allen's "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," Bardem has steered clear of big and flashy roles, even dropping out of Rob Marshall's "Nine" in favor of a little rest and relaxation. After a long vacation, he's now returning to his Spanish roots in "Biutiful," directed by one of Mexico (and Hollywood's) Big Three, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.

The film follows a man, who is embroiled in unspecified shady dealings, who is confronted by a childhood friend. Given that his old friend is now a policeman, things are bound to be problematic. And if you saw Inarritu's last film, "Babel," you know how he can turn a simple story into a ricochet of tragedy. Read more...
