Amy Smart just gave away everything about "Crank 2"! "It takes place three months after [Jason Statham's character] falls out of the helicopter. He lives. Uh oh. I gave it away!" she laughed on a press stop at Comic-Con promoting her new horror flick, "Mirrors".
Alright, so we all knew Jason and Amy were coming back even if the first "Crank" ended with a seemingly impossible to follow finale. But who cares about Jason's character when you're talking to the lovely Ms. Smart? Apparently the months since the first one took place have seen her character undergo some lifestyle changes. We told you yesterday about Jason Statham's confirmation that he's not in "G.I. Joe." Well now we can tell you about films that he is in. So get your motor running, because "Crank 2” is on the way and it's "effing ridiculous," Statham told MTV News, while also filling us in on the prospects for a third installment of the guilty-pleasure "Transporter" series.
As for "Crank," ridiculous is right, since, if I remember correctly, the first "Crank" ended with Statham's character falling out of a helicopter, bouncing on the pavement, and coming to a rest, dead, in the middle of the street. And even if he somehow survived the fall hadn't he been, well, poisoned?
But in an interview with Empire Online two weeks ago, "Crank" co-directors Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine insisted that they found a way, promising that the flick would be "more sexual, more violent - more of everything."
For his part, Statham says he's just happy to be along for the ride. "If you thought the first one was crazy, this is ridiculous. It's mad," he enthused. "I couldn't resist working with those chaps again. It gives me a chance to go wild in the aisles." Read more...
If G.I. Joe taught me anything, it's that "knowing is half the battle." Know this: After months of speculation that he would play Action Man in the long-anticipated live-action adaptation from "Van Helsing" director Stephen Sommers, "Crank" star Jason Statham says he has nothing at all to do with "G.I. Joe."
"The old Internet can be quite misleading at times," Statham said. "I don't know where that came from."
More precisely, the rumors of his involvement merely indicated that Paramount was looking his way, and that he was the first choice for the role, presumably to add an international flavor to what would otherwise be a film focused exclusively on American soldiers. So we wondered: has he even been contacted at all?
"[I have] no connection with 'G.I. Joe,'" he insisted.
Statham doesn't strike me as someone likely to play coy, so now that his involvement has been put to rest, is there someone else you see in the role? Should Action Man even be included? Sound off below.
You would think that after narrowly escaping giant hordes of killer vehicles in "Transformers," Tyrese Gibson would have had his fill of deadly cars.
Think again, grinned director Paul W.S. Anderson, who revealed to MTV News that the 28-year-old "2 Fast 2 Furious" star is set to take to the road once more -- this time behind the wheel -- as a contestant in his "Death Race 3000," an update of the 1975 classic starring David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone. Tyrese joins previously confirmed cast member Jason Statham -- two tough dudes about to get their clock cleaned by the most unlikely of opponents, Anderson announced ... Joan Allen.
"She kicks the most ass out of everybody," Anderson smiled, revealing for the first time that the three-time Oscar nominee will join the cast as well.
The film, a "faithful remake," said Anderson, follows a group of contestants on a cross-country race who score points for running down pedestrians. It is set for release in 2008.
When the partner of FBI agent Jason Statham gets whacked by super-assassin Jet Li, the erstwhile "Transporter" bad-ass takes to the streets to get revenge. It's a non-stop flurry of fist fury, hitting theaters on August 24. Watch an exclusive scene from the film below.
