People were already drawing comparisons between Taylor Lautner's "Abduction" and Matt Damon's Jason Bourne series well before the "Twilight" star debuted his latest film's first full trailer last night, but now, there's simply no denying the shared traits between the two movies -- not even Taylor would fight the comparisons.

"It definitely has a lot of similarities to 'Bourne,'" he confessed during last night's MTV First: Taylor Lautner event, where the young actor debuted the "Abduction" trailer. "I would say Nathan Price's journey takes place before Jason Bourne's started. When Jason realized, when he was searching for his true identity, he was already a trained expert. Now Nathan, [he's just discovering his abilities]."

If Taylor's already entertaining the comparisons, then it's only fair to ask: who would win in a fight between Nathan and Jason?

Matt Damon in The Bourne UltimatumBy now, pretty much everyone and their mother has heard that there is going to be a fourth installment in the "Bourne" franchise and that, even though it will be called "The Bourne Legacy," there won't be anyone named Bourne in the actual movie.

That's right -- no Jason Bourne and no Matt Damon. There will be a whole lot of Tony Gilroy, however: He co-wrote the first three "Bourne" films, is co-writing and directing "Legacy," and says that the new film (or, more likely, films) will "expand the mythology" of the series, focusing on one or more new brainwashed assassins... and eventually pave the way for the return of Damon's Bourne somewhere down the line.

Here's the funny thing: Apparently, no one bothered to run any of this by Damon. Read More...

Matt Damon in The Bourne UltimatumWhen Tony Gilroy was confirmed as director of "The Bourne Legacy" last week, there was renewed hope that Matt Damon might, just might, return for a fourth go-around as Jason Bourne. After all, if Damon absolutely had to team with a director besides Paul Greengrass on a new "Bourne" film, who better than the man who co-wrote the three previous installments?

Sadly, it is not to be... not yet anyway. Gilroy himself rang up Hollywood Elsewhere to tell them the following: "This is not a reboot or a recast or a prequel. No one's replacing Matt Damon. There will be a whole new hero, a whole new chapter... this is a stand-alone project.

"The easiest way to think of it is an expansion or a reveal," Gilroy continued. "Jason Bourne will not be in this film, but he's very much alive. What happened in the first three films is the trigger for what happens. I'm building a legend and an environment and a wider conspiracy... the world we're making enhances and advances and invites Jason Bourne's return [down the road]." Read More...

Matt Damon in The Bourne UltimatumEver since Matt Damon swam off into the sunset, er, East River at the end of "The Bourne Ultimatum," there's been a whole lot of back-and-forth as to whether a fourth installment in the highly lucrative amnesiac spy franchise would ever get made. Well, according to Deadline.com, "Bourne 4" is now moving full-steam ahead with Tony Gilroy, who wrote the first three films, in the director's chair.

Though Paul Greengrass, the shaky-camera-loving maestro who helmed "Supremacy" and "Ultimatum," will be missed, we're more than happy to see Gilroy, who is also penning the script, take over the franchise reins for '4," tentatively entitled "The Bourne Legacy." We're less happy about the fact that Damon's involvement in the picture is still uncertain. Damon has long maintained that he was game for "Bourne 4" ... but only, repeat ONLY, if Greengrass were directing. Read More...

If ever there were two popular Hollywood properties that would end up crossing over, I must admit, I never expected them to be the Jason Bourne series and "Little Miss Sunshine." But that's exactly how The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog is describing Warner Bros.'s latest acquisition, "Family Getaway."

The script was the first sale for newcomers Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer. "We both went into shock and are still shock," Friedman said to Heat Vision. "It's a dream come true." Read More...

Jason BourneLast we heard, the "Bourne" franchise was headed in a new direction without frequent director Paul Greengrass. Leading man Matt Damon has long testified that he would reprise his role as super spy Jason Bourne, and he's echoed those comments in a new interview -- but he insists he'll only return if Greengrass comes back as well.

"Absolutely yes," Damon told Las Vegas Weekly (via The Playlist) when asked if he'd participate in another "Bourne" movie. "I love the character. I love the stories. But only if Paul Greengrass says he will direct again. So far, though, he's decided not to. I'd definitely say yes if he went for it. I know he would have a great story, and it would protect the legacy of what we created."

This isn't the first time that Damon has kept the door open on the "Bourne" franchise, and while I'm all for another outing and I'm a big fan of the actor's work on the character, I have to wonder -- is it time for Damon to let Bourne go? Read More...

Tim Gunn is well known for his fashion advice, but he's starting to build a reputation for himself beyond "Project Runway" and "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style" with something of a big screen presence. He's already set to appear in this month's "Sex and the City 2," and now there's news that he'll star in "The Smurfs" as an executive assistant at a major cosmetics company.

Clearly, Gunn's theatrical makeover isn't ripping him away from the fashion industry altogether — from the sound of it, his acting roles are firmly tied to his status as an expert on what styles are in and which ones are out. But the idea of Gunn making a film career out of playing analogues of himself in major franchises like "The Smurfs" sounds rather brilliant, at least to me.

After the jump, I've listed a few other franchise films that could use some in-movie fashion guidance from Gunn. Read More...

The overall word coming out over the weekend from the widely attended junket for Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass' "Green Zone" seemed to be that the actor and the director had definitively said goodbye to the "Bourne" franchise. But when MTV News spoke with them, both men signaled that their involvement with the series has not completely ended: Damon held out the chance that he could return to "Bourne" territory and Greengrass is committed to assisting with the creation of a rebooted "Bourne" flick with another actor in the title role.

"We see a very clear way that they could go [with the story] that wouldn't interfere with the series that we have and that might give it a chance to have a life right now and if we come back and did another one, even after that without us," he said. Read More...

The Bourne UltimatumIt sounds like Jason Bourne has a lot more than a bad case of misplaced identity to deal with. Director Paul Greengrass — who helmed the second and third "Bourne" installments — has reportedly walked away from the developing fourth "Bourne" movie, leaving the project without a director.

The Playlist has extensive analysis on the situation, suggesting that the departure of Greengrass is due to a variety of reasons, including his alleged tendency to run up budget costs and his own dissatisfaction over the way Universal has treated him during "Green Zone," his Iraq War film starring Bourne himself, Matt Damon. Kellan LutzHe’s got the looks of Matt Damon, the muscles of Jason Statham, and can deliver a line way better than Jean-Claude Van Damme. So, does “Twilight” star Kellan Lutz have what it takes to become Hollywood’s next big action hero?

“I’ve got ‘New Moon’ shooting in April, and besides that I’m focusing on the film side of stuff: Reading a lot of scripts and checking out what the next big action movie is,” the 24-year-old actor (his birthday is March 15th) revealed to us when he stopped by the MTV studios recently, discussing his upcoming plans. “That’s the way I want my career to go.” Read More...
