Yesterday, I saw a lot of people calling for Jamie Foxx's Oscar to be revoked following the announcement that he and Martin Lawrence are confirmed for "Sheneneh and Wanda," a comedy in which the duo will play female bank robbers. Both roles are based on earlier cross-dressed characters from the actors' TV days (Lawrence's Sheneneh is from "Martin" and Foxx's Wanda is from "In Living Color"). Foxx, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2004 for "Ray" (he was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor that same year for "Collateral), returning to this drag shtick seems like a huge step backward to a lot of people.
"Seems" is the key word here, though, because it doesn't have to be a regression. Plenty of Oscar-caliber actors have cross-dressed before and since being nominated and/or winning an Academy Award, and plenty of performers have won for dressing like the opposite sex. I've selected a few standouts of the bunch below. Click the image at the top of the post to be whisked off to our Cross-Dressing Oscar Winners flipbook gallery. Read more...
Wasn’t “The Soloist” hilarious? Remember all those crazy scenes of Robert Downey Jr. spilling urine on himself, and Jamie Foxx acting like he might be insane? Ah, good times, good times.
Oh wait, “Soloist” was a drama? Well, now that you mention it, maybe I shouldn’t have been laughing so much. Either way, the good news is that Foxx and Downey Jr. are reuniting for a real comedy from the director of “The Hangover.” And this time, I’m pretty sure it’ll be okay to laugh.
“Yeah, it’s called ‘Due Date,’” Jamie Foxx said of the film, issuing some high praise for director Todd Phillips, who also made “Old School” a frat-house classic. “He is the funniest guy in the world.” Read more...
After last Friday's "cheese stands alone" release of "Couples Retreat," we're back this Friday with a range of options for moviegoers of all shapes and sizes. The big one of course is director Spike Jonze' adaptation of "Where the Wild Things Are." I can't really say that it's a kids movie, but anyone who holds their childhood memories of the book close will feel some strong nostalgia for Jonze' interpretation. It's weird and beautiful and oddly aimless; this is as perfect a pairing of director and source as there's ever been.
Next up is director F. Gary Gray's thriller "Law Abiding Citizen," starring Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx. Butler plays a family man whose life is torn away from him after his wife and kids are murdered. Ten years after the tragic incident, the widow seeks revenge on the assistant district attorney (Foxx) who allowed the killers to go free. All from the confines of a jail cell. Did I mention that Butler's character is an inventor by trade? Read more...

Not too long ago, Jamie Foxx and Taylor Hackford teamed up and essentially took over Hollywood for a few memorable months, as fans and critics alike marveled at the “Booty Call” comedian’s transformation into Ray Charles. Now, I’ve got to admit that I’m a bit fascinated by the duo’s current plans to reunite – and take on an even more difficult real-life icon to portray in Mike Tyson.
Yesterday, we broke the news that Foxx has tapped Hackford to direct him in the upcoming Tyson biopic that he and the former champ have spoken about in the past. If you read those comments, it’s pretty obvious that Foxx views the controversial Iron Mike as something of a misunderstood figure, and it seems likely that the biopic would aim to make Foxx’s admitted friend a bit more sympathetic. In the rest of our conversation with Jamie, he expanded a bit on such feelings. Read more...
Jamie Foxx will always have a knack for the funny, as we see in his Mike Tyson impression at the top of the below video. He's completely serious about what his plans are for the headline-grabbing boxer however. Foxx plans to do with Tyson what he previously did with singer Ray Charles in "Ray," which is to say give movie-going audiences a new perspective on a public figure who is equal parts famous and infamous.
What's more, Foxx revealed exclusively to MTV News that he's bringing more than just his acting chops over from "Ray," a performance which netted the actor his first Academy Award. "Taylor Hackford, who also directed [the] Ray Charles [biopic], I think is my man [to direct the Tyson biopic]. We have a certain kinship, and we've talked about when we do get back together what it would be like." Read more...
--This news just arrived in my mailbox, so consider it hot off the presses. Overture Films has issued a casting announcement for Matt Reeves' "Let Me In," a remake of the Swedish vampire flick "Let the Right One In." Joining the cast are Kodi Smit-McPhee ("The Road"), Chloe Moretz ("500 Days of Summer") and Richard Jenkins ("The Visitor").
--As if the badass trailer for Chris Nolan's "Inception" wasn't enough to get you excited, there's more news on the hush-hush project today. IMAX Corporation announced that the sci-fi flick will hit IMAX theaters and regular theaters simultaneously on July 16, 2010. And yes, that is too long to wait for something that looks so freaking cool. (ComingSoon) Read more...

-- Huge news. Bryan Singer is now confirmed to be directing a silver screen reboot of "Battlestar Galactica." This was reported earlier by Hitfix, but the news has now been confirmed. Fans of Ron Moore's take on the franchise shouldn't rise up in angry protest just yet. The project is literally at ground zero right now. With Singer on board, now it's time to find a writer, figure out the course such a project might take. Might Ron Moore step in to deliver a script? Anything is possible. We shall see, fellow "BSG" fans. (Variety) Read more...

A few days after Michael Jackson died, the powers-that-be here at MTV rightly scoffed at my pitch to run a feature suggesting who might play the fallen pop star in the seemingly inevitable biopic. They all said "too soon," an observation I came to agree with after putting the delirium of two marathon-length workdays behind me.
Clearly, someone in a position of Hollywood power is thinking along similar lines. Maybe. It's not like there's any attribution to support the claims that both Jamie Foxx and Johnny Depp are being eyed for starring roles in an unannounced Jackson biopic. We usually try to maintain a pretty even-handed tone here on MTV Movies Blog, but I'm going to have to go ahead and call shenanigans. Read more...
Last night was Spike TV's Guys' Choice Awards, at which Halle Berry received honors for her "Decade of Hotness." Oy. Anyway, Berry shared a... ahem... "special" moment with Jamie Foxx when she kissed him passionately as he presented her award.
Foxx shared his thoughts on the incident in an interview with MTV. More importantly, he shared those thoughts while delivering pretty spot-on Mike Tyson impression. The clip kind of speaks for itself, so check it out below.
It’s been nearly three years since Jamie Foxx and Michael Mann last collaborated on “Miami Vice” and just as long since the pair announced plans for a fourth team-up. Now Foxx has confirmed with MTV News that their “Damage Control” is still on the way.
The film is planned as a sports drama, focusing on Foxx as a professional publicist/spin doctor who represents troubled players. With steroid abuse a major part of today’s headlines, Foxx believes that there’s no better time to get “Damage Control” to the big screen. Read more...
