With Jack Black Returning, Would You See A ‘School Of Rock’ Sequel?

Jack Black in 'School of Rock'Back at the Cannes film festival, Jack Black made news when the comedian touted that he’d be down for a sequel to his generation-spanning surprise hit, “School of Rock.” When we caught up with Black however, he revealed the one caveat to the deal…don’t expect him back without original helmer Richard Linklater re-claiming the director’s chair. Well, it looks like he got his wish.

Variety is reporting that Linklater, Black and screenwriter Mike White (who also played Black’s best friend) are once again joining forces to bring kiddie-delivered rock ‘n’ roll to the masses. “I love to rock…I love making movies,” Black told us about the prospect of returning as wacky rock prof Dewey Finn. “So it is kind of like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, you put the acting and the rock together in a delicious sweet chocolately smash.”

The trade mag reveals the working storyline involves Black bringing his class on a “cross-country field trip that delves into the history of rock ‘n’ roll and explores the roots of blues, rap, country and other genres.” So that begs the question…does that sound like something you’d throw down hard dollars for? The original was massively hyped as the must-see cute comedy of the year; can a second helping come close to touching that? Chime in below and let us know your thoughts.

Jack Black Will Only Make ‘School of Rock 2’ With Richard Linklater, Actor Says

For those about to rock … we salute you.

Three weeks ago, Jack Black told reporters in Cannes that he’d be totally down for a return to the “School of Rock,” but made no mention of whether the proposed project would move ahead with original director Richard Linklater.

Well, you can count out Black if you count out Linklater, the comic actor recently told MTV News.

“It would have to be [with Richard],” Black said. “I wouldn’t do it without him.” Read more…

Our Guest Blogger Hangs With ‘Panda’ Star Jack Black, Meets Seth Rogen And James Franco For ‘Pineapple’

Our guest blogger Laura Culpepper will be covering the highlights from now through the big show on Sunday, so check in daily as she live-blogs her Movie Awards experience!

Hey everyone! Yesterday was crazy, but I’ve rested up now and I’m getting ready for the big awards tomorrow. There were two screenings yesterday: “Kung Fu Panda” starring Jack Black and “Pineapple Express” starring Seth Rogen and James Franco.

First stop was to Paramount for the “Kung Fu Panda” screening. I’m usually not a big fan of animation, but this one was surprisingly good! There were some pretty awesome action scenes, and Jack Black did a great job of giving Po, the main character, a voice. The Q&A after was great, and we even got to see Jack show off some Kung Fu moves of his own.

MTV News’ Kim Stolz also interviewed Jack, dressed in a Panda costume, no less. Read more…

Jack Black Denies ‘Hobbit’ Rumors, Will Not Play Bilbo

He is the clue finder, the web-cutter, the stinging fly. He was chosen for the lucky number. He comes from the end of a bag, but no bag goes over him. He is the Barrel-rider.

Bilbo Baggins goes by many names in “The Hobbit,” but one that he will never be known as is Jack Black, MTV News has learned.

Three days ago, The Daily Express wrote that Scottish actor James McAvoy was in “pole” position to claim the coveted role of Bilbo in Guillermo del Toro’s two prequel films, but that Del Toro and producer Peter Jackson were also looking at Daniel Radcliffe and Jack Black for the part previously played in “Lord of the Rings” by Ian Holm.

That’s news to Black, the actor told MTV News during a Q&A for his new film, “Kung Fu Panda.” Read more…

Olivia Wilde Overseeing ‘Year One’ Orgy With Jack Black, Michael Cera

Olivia WildeCombining the forces that gave us “Superbad,” “School of Rock” and “Groundhog Day,” there are few currently-filming flicks we’re as excited about as “The Year One.” Now, “House” actress Olivia Wilde is preaching to us all for the first time about her role in the biblical comedy.

“The script is so funny, I can’t even tell you,” laughed the 23-year-old beauty, currently filming the movie in Louisiana alongside Michael Cera, Jack Black and writer/director Harold Ramis. “I am a huge Monty Python fan, and it’s definitely got some of that Monty Python-esque humor; it’s over-the-top, but it’s very smart.” Read more…

Gondry Preps ‘Be Kind, Rewind’ Sequel, Starts Race War, Kills Dog

Melonie Diaz, Jack Black and Mos Def in 'Be Kind Rewind'If you thought “Be Kind, Rewind” was off-beat or eccentric, wait’ll you get a load of director Michel Gondry’s proposed sequel, which could be called “Rewound” if I didn’t already dub it “The Weirdest Friggin Thing I Have Ever Heard of In My Life.”

“The sequel would happen this way: Mia [Farrow] and Danny Glover are together, Alma [Melonie Diaz] and Mos Def are together, Jack [Black] is left alone and so he’s kind of depressed,” Gondry explained. “But one day he finds a little dog and gets very attached to it.” Read more…
