There's some big event on TV this Sunday. A ton of shiny, new movie trailers are going to premiere! I think there's a football game going on too, but who cares about that?

As is the case every year, this year's Super Bowl will bring the usual helping of commercials and trailers that probably cost more to secure airtime for than they did to produce. And while most of the commercials aren't really going to drive you movies fans into a frenzy, some of the trailer premieres certainly will. You'll get glimpses of some of the biggest movies this year. I've tried to compile a complete list for you based on reports floating around the Internet, though I wouldn't be surprised if a few others sneak in there as well. We have no idea if this list is 100% accurate; hopefully it's wrong and there are more. One thing is certain though: we'll know on Sunday. Read more...

Promo Police is back for round two. The lineup pits indies “HIGH School” and “The Yellow Handkerchief” up against Hollywood heavyweights “Green Lantern,” “Iron Man 2,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “The Last Airbender” and “Wall Street 2.” As the end of the month approaches, the force is looking to make quota. This week’s offenders unfortunately won’t boost the stats. Some are facing minimal charges, but the rest are proudly exonerated and set free for your enjoyment.

Concept Art: “Green Lantern”
The Good: The FX folks responsible for these images are taking their job very seriously in multiple senses of the word. First, they’re very accurate portrayals of the popular comic book characters. Secondly and more importantly, they have an ominous undertone suggesting “Green Lantern” could be a more serious superhero film like “The Dark Knight.”
The Bad: Tomar-Re and Kilowog can scowl all they want; when you’ve got faces like that people are bound to giggle.
Promotional Power: Does anything regarding “Green Lantern” not have promotional power? Check it out here. Read more...

FROM SPLASH PAGE: In April of last year, it was announced that actress Kate Mara was joining the cast of "Iron Man 2," but details beyond that initial revelation were entirely up in the air. Speculation ran rampant that she'd play an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. alongside Samuel L. Jackson's role of Nick Fury or perhaps even Bethany Cabe, a girlfriend and ally of Tony Stark's in the comic books.

With the cat still in the bag regarding Mara's role, MTV News couldn't help but ask the actress about her specific involvement in the "Iron Man" sequel during an interview at the Sundance Film Festival this weekend. According to the actress, rumors that she'll play Bethany Cabe are entirely untrue.

FROM SPLASH PAGE: EDITOR'S NOTE: With "Iron Man 2" just a few months away from hitting theaters, MTV News contacted War Machine co-creator Bob Layton to discuss the character's upcoming debut on the big screen. The conversation covered a wide range of subjects that we're rolling out this week in a four-part series — continuing with today's tale of his "Iron Man 2" set visit and the disagreement he moderated while he was there.

Longtime “Iron Man” writer and artist Bob Layton is recognized as one of the most signi
ficant creators to chronicle Tony Stark’s adventures, so it's probably no surprise that he was called upon to help settle a creative disagreement between director Jon Favreau and star Robert Downey Jr. during his visit to the “Iron Man 2” set last summer.

“When I first got on the set, there was a dispute going on between Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. about [Jim Rhodes’] character,” Layton explained to MTV News. “That’s how I was introduced to them. It was like, ‘here’s the guy who helped created the character, why don’t we ask him?’"

FROM SPLASH PAGE: EDITOR'S NOTE: With 2009 behind us and "Iron Man 2" just a few months away from hitting theaters, MTV News contacted War Machine co-creator Bob Layton to discuss the character's upcoming debut on the big screen. The conversation covered a wide range of subjects that we're rolling out this week in a four-part series — starting with today's chat about the origins of War Machine and the man under the armor, James "Rhodey" Rhodes.

In over 40 years of “Iron Man” comics, few creators have been more influential than Bob Layton and David Michelinie. The long-time collaborators have co-written almost 100 issues of “Iron Man” over the course of the series.

Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes (a.k.a. War Machine) is perhaps their most significant contribution to the “Iron Man” mythos. Created in "Iron Man" #118 with artist John Byrne, Rhodes was originally introduced as a soldier who helped Tony Stark escape from behind enemy lines before going on to become his best friend and confidant. After Layton and Michelinie left the series for the first time, Rhodes eventually took over the role of Iron Man for a time. However, Rhodes was never intended as replacement for Stark, according to Layton.

Without a doubt, 2009 was a kind year for the moviegoing crowd thanks to a wealth of brilliant blockbusters, smaller slices of science fiction, quietly intense dramas and plenty of other standout stories. But that's all in the past now, boys and girls. 2010 is bound to bring bright film prospects that are at least as cool as 2009's offerings, if not better.

It would take a long, long time to go through every single movie that I'm itching to see, but of the new year's upcoming film slate, these are the five theatrical debuts that I'm most excited for. Read more...

War MachineFROM SPLASH PAGE: There's no shortage of hype surrounding the debut of War Machine in "Iron Man 2," and according to Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada, the character will more than live up to his action-packed tease in the new "Iron Man 2" trailer.

"I've actually seen a rough cut of the movie, and it's going to be good," Quesada told MTV News during the opening night of "Marvelous Color," a new art exhibit in Manhattan. The exhibit highlights Marvel's history of prominent African-American characters, with special attention paid to six of the publisher's most well-known heroes: Storm, Black Panther, Luke Cage, Blade, Falcon and of course, War Machine.

"[Don] Cheadle is one of the greatest living American actors, what do you expect?" said Quesada of the actor playing War Machine's alter ego, James "Rhodey" Rhodes, in the blockbuster sequel. "I think fans are going to love it — especially fans of War Machine — and he does kick some major ass."

FROM SPLASH PAGE: By now, you've already seen the new "Iron Man 2" trailer, and you've probably checked out our shot-by-shot analysis of the "Iron Man 2" trailer, too. What you might have missed, however, is the importance of a few key scenes in the trailer that could say a lot about the film's plot and where Iron Man (and War Machine) could be headed after "Iron Man 2."

As usual, consider this your official SPOILER ALERT... because that's how we roll.

FROM SPLASH PAGE: The mysterious viral marketing campaign for "Iron Man 2" is at an end — for now at least — with the final result being the world premiere of the movie's first official trailer.

Unveiled over at Apple, the "Iron Man 2" trailer provides our best glimpse yet at Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), War Machine (Don Cheadle), the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and more in the Jon Favreau-directed Marvel movie.

While today's earlier Entertainment Tonight teaser has already provided us with a healthy indicator of the movie's plot, there's truly nothing like seeing the real thing in all of its high-definition glory. Here are just a few of our favorite moments from the trailer:

FROM SPLASH PAGE: Just when it seemed like "Iron Man 2" news was hitting a lull, Paramount has released three (semi-)new images from the much-anticipated sequel.

The new trio of photos feature a shot of Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer that we've seen versions of before, a new shot of Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, and a photo of director Jon Favreau chatting it up with stars Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle.
