Twilight wins big at People's Choice AwardsLike a big heaping bowl of Kraft macaroni and cheese (soon to be hocked by the Homeless Man With the Golden Voice!), the People's Choice Awards are pure comfort food for the entertainment-consuming soul. You can count on them to deliver a fun, star-studded evening where the movies, actors, musicians, etc. that you want to win actually do win -- probably because, you know, it's the fans that vote and determine the victors.

How Do You KnowThe new year is here, and with it a time for reflection on the past year and things we resolve to do better in the coming 365 days. The New York Times talked to some studio executives last week about whether Hollywood had learned its lessons from the flops in 2010 and was going to lead us into a great year for movies in 2011. Amy Pascal, Sony's co-chairwoman shared: "We think the future is about filmmakers with original voices. Original is good, and good is commercial."

Original voices maybe, but original film stories not so much. Despite the fact that some of this year's most-loved films were new ideas ("Black Swan," "Despicable Me" and "Inception"), the biggest moneymakers followed the too-familiar trend of sequels, reboots and remakes ("Toy Story 3," "Iron Man 2" and "Alice in Wonderland"). And while studio execs might be professing that change is in the air for 2011, looking at a list of next year's films shows a whole lot of the same.

Here's a breakdown: Of the 93 films hitting theaters next year, 29 are original; 28 are either adaptations or based on true events (but not twisted into thrillers like "Apollo 18" and "The Rite"); 34 are either reboots, remakes or sequels; and two are documentaries (hi there, "African Cats" and "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never"). After the jump we'll take a look at them and see if studios really have learned lessons from 2010's biggest flops. Read more...

Best Movie Quotes

The most memorable movie lines require three things: They must sound like something a real person (or at least the character uttering them) would, you know, actually say; they must be smarter, funnier and snappier than what a real person would actually say (this sounds like it would contradict the first point, but it doesn't); and they must have a great actor to give them a great delivery. It's a delicate balance, and one that takes both skill -- and a tiny bit of luck -- to achieve.

This year was packed with plenty of ear-pleasing, intensely quotable movie quotes, ranging from the highbrow ("The Social Network" and "True Grit") to the not-so-highbrow ("The Other Guys" and "Machete"). Some movies -- here's looking at you, "Social Network" -- were so full of amazing one-liners and witty exchanges that I could have made a top 10 list just drawing from them. But in the interest of fairness, I'll stick to one awesome line per movie. Below, take a look at my picks for the 10 best movie quotes of 2010, then hit the comments to share your own favorites! Harry Potter and the Deathly HallowsHalloween is fast approaching, and unsurprisingly here at the MTV Movies Blog we have a soft spot for movie-themed costumes. There's tons of inspiration to be taken from films released in 2010, which means that the streets are probably going to be overrun with people dressed up in Mad Hatter and Na'vi costumes purchased from the store. But there's plenty of room to save your pennies and be creative without just throwing on a hoodie and calling yourself Mark Zuckerberg or pulling out your best suit and saying you're Don Draper or a member of the "Inception" dream team (pun intended).

We're getting rid of your excuse to be lazy this Halloween and bequeathing unto you some costume ideas that will make your friends cringe -- whether it's out of good old-fashioned horror or due to the sheer magnitude of your costume's disregard for good taste (we apologize in advance if we inadvertently offend anyone). So hit the jump for five original twists on movie-themed costumes to spice up your Halloween. Read more...
