The Hughes brothers have a way of attracting top-notch Hollywood talent to their films: Johnny Depp in "From Hell," Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman in the upcoming "Book of Eli." At the top of their movie wish list, though, is one artist known far more for his music—and for his spectacularly sordid final days—than for his acting.

"This is going to sound strange, but Michael Jackson was an incredible actor and no one knew that," Allen Hughes told MTV News.

"If you look at the nuances of 'The Wiz,' when he played the Scarecrow. Or if you look at the short film Scorsese directed before 'Bad,' where he's going head to head with Wesley Snipes. The acting he was doing? Oh my god it was good. I know actors and he was an incredible actor." Read More...

Nearly a decade passed between films for Albert and Allen Hughes—2001's "From Hell" to next week's "Book of Eli"—but don't think for a second the twin brothers weren't busy. They pursued a bunch of different Hollywood projects, and were pursued for many more. Two such films, as MTV News has exclusively learned, were mammoth Disney productions.

The Hughes brothers were approached to direct both "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" and "The Lone Ranger." Once Gore Verbinksi dropped out of the "Pirates" franchise in April after directing the first three films and before Rob Marshall signed on, the Hughes brothers met with Johnny Depp (their "From Hell" star) and Jerry Bruckheimer to discuss boarding the big screen flicks. But according to Allen Hughes, who, along with his twin brother Albert, filmed "Menace" when he was just 20-years-old, the directorial duo hadn't made a mature film until "The Book of Eli," their upcoming post-apocalyptic Western starring Denzel Washington.

"We were blessed and cursed to have our first film green-lit at 17, and that sets you back in a personal way," Allen told MTV News. "I think the 'Book of Eli' is our first grown up film." Read More...

Ray Stevenson"The Book of Eli" officially has my interest. We've watched the film rack up a pretty nice casting line-up in Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis, but something was missing in this post-apocalyptic story. That something was obviously the Punisher.

That's right -- Ray Stevenson, aka the new Punisher (who you'll see shoot up the place next week in Punisher: War Zone), has joined the cast of "Eli." According to Variety, he'll be playing an enforcer dispatched to kill Eli, that poor man who's just trying to guard a book and save humanity. Read More...
