One of the very real dangers facing society today is the possibility of losing one's job to a machine. The "Terminator" series tells of a bleak future in which humanity is an endangered species, a ragtag resistance movement which has nearly been crushed beneath the iron heel of self-aware automatons. When will people learn?!

Richard Matheson, author of "I Am Legend," was aware of this danger long before most. He wrote a short story called "Real Steel," in which a professional boxer is forced out of the sport when robots replace humans as competitors. Rather than the story taking a dark turn, the former boxer and his son bond over a robot boxer of their own. Life, as ever, imitates "The Simpsons" (yes, I am aware Matheson's story predates that episode... just let me make my joke). Now, Variety reports that "Real Steel" is about to get... err... real-er, as DreamWorks has greenlit the story for an adaptation. Read more...

--This news just arrived in my mailbox, so consider it hot off the presses. Overture Films has issued a casting announcement for Matt Reeves' "Let Me In," a remake of the Swedish vampire flick "Let the Right One In." Joining the cast are Kodi Smit-McPhee ("The Road"), Chloe Moretz ("500 Days of Summer") and Richard Jenkins ("The Visitor").

--As if the badass trailer for Chris Nolan's "Inception" wasn't enough to get you excited, there's more news on the hush-hush project today. IMAX Corporation announced that the sci-fi flick will hit IMAX theaters and regular theaters simultaneously on July 16, 2010. And yes, that is too long to wait for something that looks so freaking cool. (ComingSoon) Read more...

SabretoothFROM SPLASH PAGE: With so much attention being paid to the debuts of Deadpool and Gambit in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," it's easy to overlook the impressive performance of Liev Schreiber as one of the franchise's returning characters, Sabretooth. Along with bringing one of Logan's most popular nemesis to life, Schreiber added significant depth to a character whose appearances had previously been limited to grunts and the occasional growl.

While the ending of "Wolverine" certainly leaves the door open for Schreiber to return to the character, Logan's impending journey to Japan might complicate a cameo from Sabretooth. When we had a chance to chat with the actor during a press event for his upcoming film "Taking Woodstock," we had to ask him whether we'd see his take on Victor Creed in the next X-Men movie.

Hugh Jackman"There's a sucker born every minute."

So said P.T. Barnum, co-founder -- with James Bailey -- of the famed Barnum & Bailey three-ring circus. And I'll bet you all the elephants in Africa that we'll hear Hugh Jackman utter those same words when he steps into the Barnum role for "The Greatest Showman on Earth," a new for-film contemporary musical written by Jenny Bicks. Bicks previously served as a writer and a producer on HBO's "Sex and the City."

Variety reports that the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" star will be joined by Anne Hathaway, who will play Jenny Lind, the "Swedish Nightingale," who so captivated the showman that he hired the European singer for a lengthy, six-month run of performances in America. Jackman and his partner John Palermo will produce the flick with Laurence Mark ("Dreamgirls") for 20th Century Fox. Read more...

Kelly HuTomorrow, a good portion of the MTV Movies team will pull up stakes and trek out to southern California for the annual San Diego Comic-Con. I'll be here in New York manning the Movies Blog, but most of the rest of the gang will be conducting interviews and gallivanting around the convention hall with cameras -- of the still and video variety -- in tow.

Our coverage won't start until the show kicks off on Thursday of course, but that doesn't mean I can't drum up some enthusiasm here on eBay Prop-Watch. Today's pick is way out of my price range. Probably out of yours too. But it's a little piece of "X2: X-Men United." The champion of the "X-Men" movies. And that's enough to satisfy me. Read more...

Robert PattinsonFROM MTV.COM:

Actors Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz and Robert Pattinson have all had their share of buzz this May, with Jackman and Weisz lining up multiple movie deals in the past two weeks, and Pattinson continuing to ride the "Twilight" wave. Now all three are lending their star power to the writing and directorial debut of actress Madeleine Stowe for her period drama, "Unbound Captives."

"Captives" is a tale set in 1865 America about a woman (played by Weisz) whose husband is killed by a Comanche war party and whose two children (one of whom will be played by Pattinson) are kidnapped. She is then rescued by a frontiersman (Jackman).

Hugh Jackman may be a huge Hollywood star, but don't let that fool you into believing he's not a bonafide comic book fanboy. Thus, it was with great pleasure that he re-entered the role of Wolverine for "X-Men Origins," out this Friday. The standalone film allowed Jackman to delve into the early "X-Men" comics to extract what makes Wolverine, Wolverine.

With that in mind, in the video below, Jackman talks about the specific comic books that influenced the movie and how they were depicted on film. When you're through with that, click here to watch the rest of our "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" interviews.

'Wolverine'FROM SPLASH PAGE: It's no secret that "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" star Hugh Jackman can carry a tune, but when 2008's "sexiest man alive" puts his pipes to the test against up-and-coming "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson, is he the best there is at what he does?

According to E Online, Jackman and Pattinson recently ended up in the same Tokyo bar after finishing up with promotional events for "Australia" and "Twilight," respectively. As any comics fan knows, this type of crossover event should result in Logan and Edward pitting claws against fangs in a wild brawl... until they both realize they're the good guys and learn a valuable lesson about communication. However, instead of a fight breaking out, the two superpower-savvy stars teamed-up for a song.

Ray WinstoneI just get giddy at the very thought of this film because it's so insane on so many levels. And if it were virtually anyone besides Steven Soderbergh behind it, that giddiniess would probably be replaced by repulsion, but really how can you be turned off by the notion of "Cleo"?

It is: (A) A retelling of the Cleopatra story, (B) A rock musical with music courtesy of members of Guided by Voices, (C) Shooting in 3D or (D) All of the above.

All of the above, baby! I spoke at length with Soderbergh this afternoon and he revealed quite a bit about his next film, including who will round out the leading trio of performers in the film. We knew about Catherine Zeta-Jones playing Cleopatra and Hugh Jackman as Mark Antony (Soderbergh said he's waiting by the phone for the official yes from the sexiest man alive). So who is the singing Julius Caesar? It's Beowulf himself, Ray Winstone, MTV can report straight from Soderbergh's lips.

The director also refured reports that the film is set in the 1920s, saying it's a period story all the way. Read more...
