Back to the FutureA Belfast-based movie producer named George Clarke has floated a theory that a time traveler may have sneaked into footage of a 1928 Charlie Chaplin film premiere. That proposition may sound a little preposterous according to the present-day world's understanding of space-time and relativity. Nevertheless, we at the MTV Movies Blog do have some personal heroes who have traveled through time for the sake of film, and this seemed like as good a time as any to list them off for you.

Marty McFly: "Back to the Future" (1985)
The film spawned 1.21 gigawatts(!) worth of quotable lines and made a box-office star out of its young Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), who had to fend off attacks by badass bully Biff and sexual advances from his mom Lorraine in order to ensure that his family wasn't wiped from the face of the Earth. Two words: "Great Scott!"

Bill and Ted: "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" (1989)
Keanu Reeves thinks he knows how to make a new Bill and Ted film work, and the last two times he got together to play air guitar and surf through time with Alex Winter, it worked out pretty well. They've battled the Grim Reaper, collected a brain trust of famous historical figures and executed wacky hijinks, so with any luck we won't have to travel too far into the future to start discussing the "Bill and Ted Trilogy." Though the box office gross for "Hot Tub Time Machine" was eclipsed by "How To Train Your Dragon," I hope enough of you saw the movie to participate in a discussion of the ending. Don't worry, for those of you who haven't yet had a chance to see it, I won't spoil any details until after the jump. If you had written off "Hot Tub" as just another time travel comedy, I encourage you to check it out and come back here with your thoughts.

I wonder if some people avoided "Hot Tub" because it seemed less focused on the time travel/sci-fi elements than it was on the gross-out comedy elements. The science of time travel isn't fully explored in the movie, but the very broad moral issues and hypotheticals are addressed, mostly for comic effect (one gag in particular involving a squirrel humorously addresses the "butterfly effect"). The ending raises one of the issues I've had with certain time travel stories ever since "Back to the Future," a movie that "Hot Tub" references a whole heck of a lot. You've been warned... spoilers ahead! Read More...

1. "How to Train Your Dragon ($43.3 million)
2. "Alice in Wonderland ($17.3 million)
3. "Hot Tub Time Machine ($13.7 million)
4. "The Bounty Hunter ($12.4 million)
5. "Diary of a Wimpy Kid ($10 million)

Moviegoers pledged their 3-D loyalty to "How to Train Your Dragon" over reigning champion "Alice in Wonderland" this weekend, as the DreamWorks animated family film won the top spot at the box office with $43.3 million. Playing in over 4,000 locations with a per theater average of $10,678, the end result for "Dragon" wasn't nearly as satisfying as the studio would have hoped for given the movie's hefty $165 million production budget. There is nothing strange about the premise of "Hot Tub Time Machine," certainly not in comparison to other movies dealing with time travel. While it might seem weird that four buddies can just plop down inside of a steamy outdoor bath and subsequently jump back in time to the 1980s, trust me — that's not as weird as it can get.

Time travel is an odd beast that has been at the heart of several films over the years, for better or worse. After the jump, we've listed some of the most bizarre ways that heroes, villains and unwitting everymen have sailed through time thanks to the delightfully demented minds working in Hollywood. I'll be honest, I went into my first screening of "Hot Tub Time Machine" with some trepidation, feeling somewhat underwhelmed by the trailers and a general sense of how many comedies try and fail. But I'm happy to say that it breezes through with flying colors, and is among the funniest movie-going experiences I've had in some time.

The film stars John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke as friends who enter a magical hot tub and are transported back to the 1980s. Getting the easy '80s jokes out of the way, the film sets into a cascading rhythm of funny moments, some gross-out humor, and most of all terrific performances which, at the end of the day, is the foundation this film is built on. I loved it, have seen it twice and would easily go a third time.

To promote the film, Corddry, Robinson and Duke sent on a nationwide "Tub Crawl," stopping in Alaska and New Orleans' festive Marti Gras. We've got an exclusive behind-the-scenes video of their travels, which you can watch below. "Hot Tub Time Machine" bows March 26.

We’ve seen veterans like Jeff Bridges, Christopher Walken and Burt Reynolds launch hugely-successful second acts in recent years, reminding fans that they’re talented folks who’ve survived decades in Hollywood and aren’t above laughing at themselves every now and then. But don’t be surprised if the next post-fame comeback is engineered by none other than… Crispin Glover?

A teen star turned blockbuster actor turned indie actor who has found himself at times ostracized by Hollywood, the 45-year-old recently celebrated the biggest opening of his career in Tim Burton’sAlice in Wonderland.” Having seen “Hot Tub Time Machine” recently, I can tell you that he steals every scene he’s in.

But that doesn’t mean he plans on giving up the eccentric, fiercely independent films he’s been making over the last few years.

“My next project is one I’m planning to do at my property in the Czech Republic that I bought six years ago,” revealed Glover, who has spent the last few years filming and touring in support of his surreal movies “What Is It?” and “It is Fine. Everything is Fine!” “There are horse stables next to this chateau that I bought that was built in the 1600s, and in those horse stables I’m making a small sound stage; it’s ready right now to start building sets.” Read More...

I swear... watching anything from "Hot Tub Time Machine" makes me feel like I've stepped back into a 1980s John Cusack comedy. That's probably because it's essentially what this movie is. Four friends are thrown back to a simpler time thanks to the titular relaxation tool, and hilarity ensues. Just watch this exclusive new TV spot. The rest will take care of itself.

Take four best buds, toss them in a hot tub for some male bonding and send them hurtling through time, back to 1986. That is the high concept pitch for "Hot Tub Time Machine," starring John Cusack, Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry and Clark Duke. There's a new trailer for it up on Yahoo! Movies, and it's quite funny. Check it out:
