The final season of "Lost" has come under some controversy for the introduction of the flash-sideways narrative device. Whereas previous seasons have flashed backwards and forwards in time, this season switches between the main Island plot and a sideways universe where Oceanic Flight 815 never crashed and landed safely in Los Angeles.

LostEpisode Title: "What They Died For"

Story: Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley have no time to mourn the deaths of their friends as they begin their pursuit of Desmond Hume, the man that Sayid identified as a threat to Smocke. Elsewhere on the Island, Ben, Richard and Miles head to the Barracks to find C4, but they find something — and someone — else.

In the Sideways Universe, Desmond continues putting the pieces together as a confrontation with Ben inspires Locke to reconsider Jack's proposal for spinal surgery. But it's Desmond's encounter with Sayid and Kate that has the most intriguing implications for the future of "Lost." Read More...

Story: Hurley (Jorge Garcia) has led Jack (Matthew Fox) and friends directly into the lion's den — better known as Smocke's (Terry O'Quinn) camp. The artist occasionally known as The Smoke Monster does his best to woo Jack over to the dark side with surprisingly honest revelations, but his hand is forced when Charles Widmore (Alan Dale) fires the first shots of war.

In the wake of an explosive incident, Smocke sets Sayid (Naveen Andrews) after Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick) while Sawyer (Josh Holloway) hatches a plan of his own to get Kate (Evangline Lily) and the others off of the Island for good. In the Sideways reality, Desmond lands safely in Los Angeles to do business with his surprising employer. But an assignment to accompany recently arrested rock star Charlie Pace (Dominic Monaghan) to a charity event results in some very strange occurrences for Desmond — occurrences that will have profound repercussions for the remainder of "Lost."
