HalloweenWith "Drive Angry" due out on DVD and Blu-Ray Tuesday and "Hellraiser" as the next project on their list, it looks like fans waiting to see director Patrick Lussier and writer Todd Farmer's take on the "Halloween" franchise will have to wait a couple more years. But when MTV News caught up with the directing/writing duo to talk the "Drive Angry" DVD release, they said that their planned "Halloween 3" is definitely still on their radar.

Farmer has completed the script already and they are in talks with the Weinstein company to make the movie, but Lussier said the time just hasn't been right to bring the film to production yet.

"We would love it to go through," Lussier said. "We would make that the second somebody said, 'Yes, go make it,' because it's a script that we love and a script we're really passionate about and it's an amazing character and an incredible franchise, and it would just be a great experience for us to go back to the roots."

HellraiserThe DVD and Blu-Ray release of "Drive Angry" is right around the corner (May 31), but director/writer team Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer are already looking forward to raising another terrifying creature up from hell: the duo, who previously worked together on "My Bloody Valentine," are currently attached to a new "Hellraiser" film.

When MTV News chatted with them recently about the "Drive Angry" DVD (interview forthcoming!), they shared that they are currently in active development with Dimension Films figuring out a way to bring their vision to the big screen. And judging by their complicated description of what their "Hellraiser" actually is -- it isn't a reboot, it isn't an origin story -- that might be easier said than done.

"[The film] sort of defies explanation," Farmer said with a laugh. "But right now it's a really exciting project that delves into the world Clive [Barker] created and then takes it in sort of a couple different directions, and it has some revisitations of the stuff at the same time it shows you some things you haven't seen before."

Lussier expanded on that a little, saying, "Clive's story has taken place in our world, and we're, uhh, I don't know how to explain it other than there are elements of origin, elements of new mixed together."

Audiences really enjoy a good scare. When watching horror films especially, the chill viewers get is part of the thrill because of the disconnect present in watching movies. After all, the events are not happening to you. They're happening to that moronic teen who decided to go for a naked late night swim in the creepy lake, a place known for the gruesome murders that have occurred there. What if it was real though? How do you ensure you end up as the series survivor and not as the latest victim of machete hacking? The answer is surprisingly simple.

With the recent announcement of a brand new "Ring" film (in 3-D of course), it got me thinking that surviving some of these horror franchises really isn't all that difficult to do. Sure, if you find yourself stuck on a trip to "The Final Destination" then you're sort of screwed. Sorry kids, no escaping death. But making it through a night of "Halloween" is smooth sailing so long as you follow some key advice. Hit the jump for my tips on exactly how to survive these horror movie classics. You know... just in case. Read More...

But wait! There's more! Studio head Bob Weinstein issued the pronouncement: "I'm heading back to my franchise films," as reported by Variety. The plan on paper calls for a veritable blitzkrieg of sequels, many of them in 3-D.

The most stunning news relates to the much-talked-about "Scream 4." Series star Neve Campbell had previously stated that she wouldn't be back for more. According to Weinstein, Campbell will return, joining already-confirmed castmates David Arquette and Courteney Cox. What's more, director Wes Craven is in talks with Dimension to helm. Read More...

'Drag Me To Hell'Director Sam Raimi makes his long awaited and apparently triumphant return to the horror genre this weekend. "Drag Me to Hell," starring Alison Lohman, Justin Long, Lorna Raver and David Paymer, follows loan officer Christine Brown (Lohman) who ends up cursed after she turns down a mortgage extension for the wrong person. Her sanity crumbles as the world around her turns into a sort of living hell.

Now Raimi is far from the first filmmaker to look to the netherworld for inspiration. In the course of building this list, I found that there are surprisingly few horror movies that deal directly with Hell as a location, at least in comparison to other genres. That said, film in general is littered with references, reinterpretations and outright visitations to the realm of the damned. Heck (ha!), as the list below shows, even musicals aren’t safe from Satan’s touch. Read More...

'Hellraiser'Just about everything that once scared the heck out of you is being remade -- presumably to scar your later years, or possibly just to keep you ranting about remakes for the rest of your life. A remake of the iconic "Hellraiser" was announced last year, but it hasn't really come together. Directors came and went and rumors swirled, but now it looks like progress is being made.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pascal Laugier is in talks to write and direct it for Dimension Films. This will be the third time "Hellraiser" has undergone a rewrite, so hopefully it'll be the charm. Read More...
