Hitchhiker's GuideGrab your copies of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and share a moment of silence with us, because today marks the 10th anniversary of the death of author Douglas Adams.

With his quirky sense of humor combined with a unique take on life in outer space, Adams remains on our list of all-time favorite science fiction novelists. In honor of his memory, we've decided to take a look back at Hollywood's best attempt to bring his best-selling book to the big screen: the 2005 adaptation of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy."

Though it's not a universally adored adaptation -- though there's something appropriate to that fact -- we'd be lying if we said we didn't appreciate the effort involved with "Hitchhiker." After the jump, we'll tell you everything we loved about that movie, from saving "The Hobbit" to making Alan Rickman cute and cuddly.

Hugh JackmanWith two "Snow White" movies coming out that feature two increasingly appealing casts it's going to be really difficult to decide which is the fairest of them all.

Case in point: Hugh Jackman is being eyed for "Snow White and the Huntsman" (if you're keeping tabs, that's the one with Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron, not the "Brothers Grimm" one starring Julia Roberts and Lily Collins.)

According to Deadline, Universal Pictures has made an offer to Jackman for the Huntsman in question. The part was once intended for Viggo Mortensen, but he has since dropped out. Plus, since Jackman looks like, as Liz Lemon would put it, "a damn Disney prince," this casting would be nothing short of inspired. But will the star actually sign on? As Deadline noted not only would the star get a hefty paycheck, but he's also pretty busy trying to find a replacement director for "The Wolverine."

After the jump check out the rest of today's most notable news from the movie world, including the MPAA pulling "The Hangover: Part II" trailer from theaters, "Tron Legacy 2" gets a green light, "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" gets a director, "When Harry Met Sally" meets the undead for Funny Or Die, and Meg Ryan is set to make her directorial debut.

Finally, after many exciting teaser images and much fanfare over the course of the past year, it's nice to get a good look at what "Arthur" has in store for us.

And, as expected, the trailer far exceeds our expectations. As leading man Russell Brand promised, there are many homages to Dudley Moore and the original film, but it's clear that this latest version is coming into its own as well. Everything that was great about the original -- the lovable rich drunk, his dour old sidekick, his easy-going fiance and spitfire love interest -- have been included and amplified for the trailer and that couldn't make us happier. And there are "Star Wars" and "Batman" references, so how can this go wrong?

What we've seen so far of Russell Brand's upcoming flick "Arthur" is intriguing to say the least. Batman and Robin onscreen costumes, nipples included? Check. Helen Mirren as his newly female sidekick? Check. Planning on winning his first Academy Award just by copying Dudley Moore's Oscar winning performance from two decades ago? Oh, that's a check.

"I am hoping that I too will get an Oscar nomination," he told MTV News when we visited the "Arthur" set. "What I did is, I've pretended to be Dudley Moore for a lot of this film, because I was thinking perhaps they just might think, 'He's almost the exact same as him. Let's nominate him for an Oscar.'"

That might not be enough to convince the Academy to give him an Oscar, but judging by the way his costars respond to him it, he might be able to get it on his own merit.

Momentum's been building over the past week around an adaptation of the Stephen Rebello book "Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho," and this latest news should make fans of the Master of Suspense even happier. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anthony Hopkins is in talks to play Hitchcock on the big screen.

Just last week it was announced that "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" director Sacha Gervasi was in talks to helm the flick. He was also planning on rewriting the screenplay penned by "Black Swan"'s John McLaughlin.

"Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho" unsurprisingly tells the story of Hitchcock leading up to the creation of the 1960 masterpiece. It follows Hitchcock who, at the height of his game as a director, chose to make a "lowly" horror movie. The book introduces a wealth of new characters we haven't met before, like the studio representatives who wanted nothing to do with the project, "Pyscho" author Robert Bloch and the film's screenwriters, editors, composers and producers. Apparently at the center of the script is the relationship between Hitchcock and his wife, Alma Reville. Read More...

Wacky rumors fly fast and furious during this time of year, a relatively light period for big theatrical releases. One such dream scenario emerged earlier this week. London tabloid The Sun reported from an anonymous source who revealed that Helen Mirren had been approached by "Inglourious Basterds" director Quentin Tarantino about appearing in his still-unannounced next film.

More than that, the source also revealed that the flick would be set during England's Middle Ages, and that it would feature Tarantino's unique brand of "bloody violence and foul language." We spoke to the filmmaker late last year and he wasn't really ready to start talking about what's next. So we reached out to Mirren for clarification. Read More...

Calm down. Don't read into that headline too much. The news is actually much tamer than the reference to a classic "Pulp Fiction" quote would have you believe.

Oscar winner Helen Mirren has been approached by "Inlgourious Basterds" director Quentin Tarantino to play a role in his next movie. That's the word from UK tabloid The Sun (via DigitalSpy) who, to be fair, don't have the best track record with these sorts of rumors.

The anonymous source told The Sun that this Tarantino project "will feature his trademarks - bloody violence and foul language," and will be set during England's Middle Ages. The source goes on to say that "Helen has never worked with Tarantino and is interested. If the film goes into production it's likely she will play a part." Not exactly confirmation, but a tantalizing possibility for Tarantino fans. Read More...

"The Last Station" has already made a big splash this awards season, nabbing major nominations with a couple critically lauded performances from thespian royalty. Both Helen Mirren and Christopher Plummer have been recognized by the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild for their roles in the film, and Oscar nods seem all but assured.

On Friday (January 15), moviegoers will finally get a chance to see what all the fuss is about when the film arrives in theaters. Plummer plays legendary Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy, who creates his own religion, renounces his worldly possessions and stops sleeping with his wife. Mirren, as his wife, naturally doesn't take too kindly to these changes after almost fifty years of marriage. Here's what else you should know about the film. Read More...

Indira Gandhi, India's first and only female Prime Minister, is getting a much-deserved biopic, and big name actors are being wooed for star-studded cameos. According to The Daily Telegraph, Helen Mirren is in talks to return to the role of Queen Elizabeth II, who she won an Oscar for playing in 2006's "The Queen." Emily Watson, meanwhile, has been cast as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Other expected -- or at least sought-after -- portrayals include Tom Hanks as Lyndon Johnson, Tommy Lee Jones as Richard Nixon and Albert Finney as British actor Peter Ustinov.

The biopic, titled "Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story," will be released in two parts, a la Steven Soderbergh's "Che" films. Both will be directed by Indian filmmaker Krishna Shah, who last helmed a pair of American B-movies called "Hard Rock Zombies" and "American Drive-In" back in 1985. Since then he seems to have primarily been a producer of "Sleepaway Camp" sequels. Playing the lead role of Gandhi is Bollywood star Madhuri Dixit, of the very entertaining and hugely successful Indian film "Hum Aapke Hain Kaun...!" (I highly recommend it to anyone curious about modern Bollywood cinema). Read More...
