Blade Runner

Fans of the sci-fi classic "Blade Runner" may have gotten their hopes up over the weekend after Twitch reported that Harrison Ford, the star of the original, was in early talks to return for director Ridley Scott's follow-up.

Unfortunately, Twitch's scoop didn't pass the Voight-Kampff test. Deadline is now reporting that Alcon, the company producing Scott's proposed return to the world of replicants, has completely denied any rumors surrounding negotiations with Ford.

Calling the rumor "patently false," Alcon co-head Andrew Kosove reiterated what had been previously stated about the film, stating "What Ridley does in 'Prometheus' is a good template for what we’re trying to do. He created something that has some association to the original Alien, but lives on its own as a standalone movie."

Harrison FordFilm geek scoop of the day: Harrison Ford is apparently in early talks to appear in Ridley Scott's new "Blade Runner" movie.

One imagines he would be back as the iconic Rick Deckard, though, of course, that's mere speculation at this point. A "Blade Runner" sequel is at least two years away from coming to fruition, and nothing has been set in stone, including Ford's possible casting.

But if he is involved in Scott's new take on the "Blade Runner" universe, then there's a lot of ways it could play out.

It's been a hard road so far for "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.," the live-action adaptation of the classic television show, but it may have found a new director. After George Clooney walked away from the film and director Steven Soderbergh, it's had a hard time holding onto anyone. Bradley Cooper left shortly after joining the film, and Soderbergh departed shortly afterward.

Now Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. has brought on the director of "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," its big holiday relase, Guy Ritchie as a producer and probable director of the film.

Tom Cruise

After mulling over the project for many months, Tom Cruise has at last committed to Warner Bros' upcoming film "All You Need Is Kill."

Deadline has the news that Cruise has joined the project, which is being directed by "Jumper" helmer Doug Liman. He'll likely start shooting the movie after he wraps Joseph Kosinski's "Oblivion," which he is set to start after he finishes the current shoot on "Rock of Ages." "All You Need Is Kill" follows a new army recruit who gets killed during a battle against an alien species, and is reborn every day to suffer the same fate. When he starts realizing that he is becoming a better soldier as each day passes, he figures out that maybe he can do something to alter the course of the battle.

Blade RunnerThe folks over at Alcon Entertainment don't want you to be worried about Ridley Scott's upcoming follow-up to "Blade Runner." They want you to be excited for it.

Just don't expect to see Harrison Ford returning to this film, whether he wants to or not. "In no way do I speak for Ridley Scott," producer Andrew Kosove told The Los Angeles Times about the project. "But if you're asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no."

"This is a total reinvention," he continued, "and in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting."

Zac EfronSeth Rogen and Zac Efron, it's time to square off.

The Judd Apatow staple and the former "High School Musical" star are butting heads in an untitled comedy where Rogen plays an average guy going toe-to-toe against Efron's frat boy character. That's a team up we never really expected to see, but it's one we're interested in seeing all the same!

News that "Blade Runner" might be headed back to the multiplex in sequel or prequel form was met, at least in an MTV Movies Blog poll last March, with a mixture of excitement, derision, and "Meh, let's wait and see" ambivalence.

I'm conflicted myself, though producers behind the effort seem to be hitting all the right notes, saying they'll avoid executive suite-driven micromanagement and will model their approach to the material on the way Christopher Nolan handled "Batman." All good things! But it would certainly help matters if "Blade Runner" star Harrison Ford would cosign the new films and perhaps even take part in the sci-fi madness.

That's what we were wondering when we sat down with Ford late last week at a "Cowboys & Aliens" press event in Montana. He was tight-lipped (not to mention bemused when I embarrassingly, inexcusably mispronounced the name of his "Blade Runner" character, Rick Deckard; nerd mea culpa!), but the takeaway is that he's certainly been in touch with producers.

By now, you've probably had a chance to check out the trailer for director Jon Favreau's sci-fi Western comic-book adaptation "Cowboys & Aliens," which stars Daniel Craig as a badass amnesiac cowboy who becomes reluctant allies with a nasty Harrison Ford to defend a town from some ill-meaning E.T.'s.

Chances are, however, that you haven't yet seen the trailer like this... with running commentary from Favreau himself. MTV sat down with the "Iron Man" director at his L.A. editing studio to get a play-by-play of what's going on in the trailer, why he made certain choices... and what you didn't see in the clip.

What do you think of the "Cowboys & Aliens" trailer? Was Favreau's commentary enlightening? Tell us in the comments!

The first trailer for director Jon Favreau's sci-fi Western (and graphic novel adaptation) "Cowboys & Aliens" has arrived in all it's gunslinging, extraterrestrial-battling glory. And, in addition to some seriously awesome spectacle, an ingeniously simple premise and a reliably badass Daniel Craig, the thing about this trailer that's got us all juiced up is Harrison Ford's sneering presence as a not-so-nice cowboy.

Check out our "Cowboys & Aliens" photo gallery

Craig stars as Jake Lonergan, a cowboy with no memory of who he is or why he's got some big-ass electronic device strapped to one wrist (though it does come in handy when the titular aliens attack). Ford plays Col. Woodrow Dolarhyde, the despotic leader of a town called Absolution, who wants to make Lonergan dead in a bad way... that is, until those pesky E.T.'s invade and he needs Longergan (and his sweet alien-zapping wristband) to help protect his people. Harrison Ford talks Indiana Jones 5There are basically four schools of thought when it comes to making "Indiana Jones 5." One: It's an awesome idea because "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" was rad and more Indy is always a good thing. Two: It's necessary because "Crystal Skull" was sort of a letdown and Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas deserve a chance to give Dr. Jones a proper sendoff. Three: It's not advisable because "Crystal Skull" was the aforementioned letdown. Four: It's a bad idea because "Indy 4" was the perfect swan song.

Regardless of how fans feel about the prospect of "Indiana Jones 5," however, the reality is that the movie whipped up $786 million worldwide... making a fifth installment all but a foregone conclusion. Plus, the 68-year-old Ford is just itching to don Indy's iconic fedora one more time, as he told MTV News MTV News at the press junket for his new comedy "Morning Glory," in theaters November 10.

"It's on George's plate," Ford said of an Indy sequel. "And I'm hoping he's working hard at it, because I'd look forward to doing it again if the three of us could get together -- George, [director] Steven Spielberg, myself -- I'd love to do another." Read More...
