For this week's final Halloween movies list, I decided to turn hit up the real superstars: my co-workers here in the MTV Newsroom who keep this great ship moving every damn day. After the jump you'll find recommendations and reminiscences from around the office. If you're game for some heavy reading, make sure to check out the last write-up, detailing Joel Hanek's pick: "Ernest Scared Stupid." Oh yes, he went there.
As for myself (MTV Movies Blog editor Adam Rosenberg), it's a toss-up. To this day I still have occasional nightmares relating to "Candyman," the Bernard Rose-directed, Virginia Madsen-starring horror flick based on a tale by novelist Clive Barker. There's something uniquely terrifying about the Candyman's ability to attack at any time, day or night. When horror can touch you even in the relative safety of sunlight, that's something to fear.
The other one that still gets me, will always get me, is Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining." Forget about bears and desiccated corpses in bathtubs and crazy old Jack. Those red-headed twins scare the crap out of me. Read more...
Welcome to Gore Girls! MTV contributor Terri Schwartz doesn't know crap about the horror genre, and she's volunteered to be our Movies Blog guinea pig. She has a good guide too. Fellow contributor Jenni Miller is a bonafide horror enthusiast, and she's willing to walk Terri through her formative experiences with blood, guts, monsters and maniacs. Together, this dynamic duo are horror's own odd couple, THE GORE GIRLS!!! Good luck Terri... you're definitely going to need it.
This week, Jenni and Terri decided to spend their time with John Carpenter's original "Halloween," as a tribute to Rob Zombie's just-released "Halloween II." After last week's serving of gratuitous gore and soft-core porn, Terri seemed to appreciate "Halloween"'s more cerebral touch. Don't take my word for it though! Hit the jump for Jenni & Terri's thorough dissection of one of horror's true classics. Read more...
To keep with the running Rob Zombie/"Halloween II" theme this week, I'm featuring yet another related item in today's eBay Prop-Watch. Ask anyone what they think of first when the subject of "Halloween" -- the horror franchise, not the holiday -- comes up, and most will answer Michael Myers' mask. Zombie's vision for the remakes diverges a bit from the previous films of course, but Myers is still his recognizable self beneath all of that filth and grime.
Here's a bit of trivia that you may not know. The original mask used in the 1978 film was created from a William Shatner Halloween mask, which was purchased for less than $2. It's amazing when you think about it, that the dictates of a low budget shoot were responsible for one of Hollywood's most iconic movie monsters. And that's why this second Prop-Watch for the week features yet another version of Myers' mask. Read more...
Forget about Siskel & Ebert, Kurt Loder and all the rest. When it comes to true, nuanced film criticism, two of the most knowledgeable cinephiles around are Method Man and Redman. So as we inch closer to Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards, we tracked down the high-flying duo for their thoughts on this year’s best films.
“This past year?” asked Redman, who was partying at Hollywood nightclub Highland with his Wu-Tang friend. “'Zack and Miri Make a Porno.'”
“Mine goes back a little,” Meth said, “but I’d say ‘Hard Candy’ kinda f--ked me up in the head. Go get it. It’s a good one.” Read more...
In case you couldn't catch all of the delightful exclusives and premieres on this evening's episode of MTV's "Behind the Screen," Movies Blog has got you covered. Kicking off our recap is an exclusive clip from Rob Zombie's "Halloween" remake/reboot follow-up "H2." There are also a number of interviews from our April set as well as the first theatrical trailer.
The new clip hits all of the key points: dark and stormy night, terrified victim, Michael Meyers, a chopping axe. No tricks here; just one, big treat for fans of Zombie's take on "Halloween."
Rob Zombie’s follow-up to his 2007 “Halloween” remake will put a new face on the franchise when it hits in 2009. Now, the official MySpace page for the film has a headshot of exactly what that face will be.
“Wayne Toth is back on the case making the greatest Michael ever,” says the MySpace blog update. The special effects and makeup guru brought Myers back to the big screen in 2007. Now, he’s sculpting out another killer set of cracks for “H2.” Read more...
Tis the season for horror remake news, apparently -- it must be something about the bright lights and shiny tinsel that makes people want to talk about slasher flicks. December has seen the debut of the "Friday the 13th" trailer, a remake of "Nightmare on Elm Street" green-lit, and "Near Dark" staked.
Now, Variety reports that Rob Zombie is planning a follow-up to his horror remake, "Halloween." He will be writing and directing the sequel, titled "H2," and is pushing it into high speed in order for an October 2009 release date.
Zombie promises "H2” won't resemble the 1981 "Halloween II," but will pick up where his own "Halloween" left off, and will be told from the point of view of Michael Myers' hunted sister, Laurie, and show what follows in the bloody aftermath of Michael Myers' killing spree. Read more...
Last week we asked you to send us photos of your "Twilight" Halloween costumed, and wow, did you ever! We received dozens of great submissions for nearly every character in the "Twilight" universe, and now the resulting photo gallery is up for your viewing pleasure.

Halloween is such a special time of year for fanboys and -girls: We can finally come out of the closet and literally wear our enthusiasm for our favorite book/movie/comic/TV-show characters. But when that favorite is "Twilight," you've got an interesting problem. How do you dress as a vampire who wants to blend in with regular humans?
Well, obviously, that kind of negative, uncreative thinking does not abound in the "Twilight" community. As early as August, the TwilightMoms were eagerly planning their costumes. And TwilightPoison.com has super-detailed instructions on the makeup and wardrobe required for vegetarian or non-vegetarian vampires (with links to sites that sell color contacts), and a special section for the boys. It's been quite a week here at MTV, as we've rolled up to Halloween with five straight days of exclusive looks at upcoming horror films (and frightening comics...click here for those). Whew!
Check out all those stories above, and then watch our Halloween round-up below. And tell us in the comments, what're your Hallo plans? Any of you planning a movie-themed costume?
